Purple it's never been confirmed but there are two theories:

1. He didn't get on with Karen (believable, she's fallen out with several other pro dancers - allegedly Natalie Lowe can't stand her.

2. It was harder than he expected and he pulled out because he wasn't happy with how difficult he found it (this has weight as Darcey hinted at it in a recent interview)
