Will Gloti get a historic 120 points, will 3x bridesmaid Kev finally make it up the aisle, or will sis Jwan steal the glitterball and if so, do we have enough Kleenex for Ore?! It's #SCD10 FINAL 2016

In preparation for tonight. So who are you rooting for? Danny, Louise or Ore?
My preference would be:
Danny
Ore
Louise
But I really don't mind who wins and quite like the idea of Ore taking the trophy.

I don't think the music helped for her AS tbh - I prefer a swing/jazz foxtrot. I've heard Let It Go as a waltz before which might have worked better for her. The tan/blonde wig combination didn't look quite right though Grin

I expected Frankie to do much better, an American smooth is always an easy crowd pleaser AND she had Gorka. I think if they hadn't put him in that horrible suit they might have got a few more votes.

Melvin had a bit of a boost with the whole 2016 cohort (except Will) being there, they wouldn't have voted for anyone except him. And the Charleston really did suit him, it wasn't one of the great, memorable charlestons but it was nicely done and he looked like he was having fun.

Ah, thanks Evil; I didn't know that.

I was pleased Melyvn won. I thought he danced well and Janette's choreography was terrific and a real crowd-pleaser.

Denise is a beautiful dancer but I would have preferred to see her doing either a more 'sparky' ballroom dance like a quickstep, or a samba or something.

Good to see Pamela again, and she and Pasha were good together.

Gethin was quite good.

The others have all faded from memory already Grin

Melvin was ok (shouldn't have been first boot) but I don't think he was the best today. I couldn't decide whether Len just giving 10s was irritating or sweet.

Sorry, went to see Moana with the kids then went straight onto film on.
Did we not have a Xmas thread, cannot find one. Can anyone link?
Merry Xmas all of you.
Still wished for a Die Hard/Lethal Weapon 1 Xmas theme Xmas Grin
Or even mean girls.

But did not begrudge #justiceforDrodoom bless him. Bet his family were excited.

I hate polar express but love Chloe. Tom Hanks scary face don't do it for me.
Frozen would normally be a shoe-in but they ronsealed Elsa.
That annoyed me: Dr Pamela should have been Elsa and Frankie could have easily doubled for Martine McCudgeon. Gorka would have made a decent Hugh.
Elsa should have been dancing with Olaf or a troll.
Ainsley's jive was no better than the G.I one with Nat.
Like Anton but he overegged it. Denise has not aged and looked stunning.

So justice for Melvin and Janette. A strictly first that first eliminee takes a trophy.

Matt goes has been botoxed/double Gloucestered, fuck me.

How did you guys find it?

Carly Stenson was previously the girlfriend of Ricky Whittle who was robbed by Chris Hollins in the final of the 2009 series of Strictly. They broke up shortly after that series which may or may not have had something to do with his close working relationship with his dance partner Natalie Lowe.

why carly would put herself through being a strictly celeb wife again!

Not sure what that means. Was she previously married to another Strictly sleb? Or has Danny done a Strictly before?

Sorry, I'm easily Confused

I'm just glad he's got something since HE WAS ROBBED Xmas Grin

Properly laughed reading DS forum where someone said watching Strictly this year was like seeing one child praised to the skies for being able to recite their 5 times table whilst simultaneously seeing another criticised for bad handwriting while solving a polynomial equation.

I bow to no one in my love for Ian Waite and I do think he'd be a good judge; but I agree with you about the balance. Not that Karen would be gruff like Len, but she's not camp or gay like Craig or Bruno. Grin

And yes, Evil, thank you; I'd forgotten to mention that she has serious credentials as an actual judge!

Report
EvilRingahBitch · 20/12/2016 17:06

The thing about KH isn't just that she's a superexperienced dancer, but also a qualified and experienced dance judge, which is what sets her aside from Anton et al. Brendan judges DWTS New Zealand I think but not necessarily in a proper "dance judge" way like Karen (and Len when he could be bothered).

Report
TimTamTerrier · 20/12/2016 17:05

I like Karen in small doses, but she's a bit too earnest and I wonder if she would be quite long-winded as a judge.

The more I think about Ian Waite the more I think he would be really good as a judge. I hadn't even considered him until Len mentioned his name on ITT. I wonder if the judging panel might become a little too camp though with three gay men and Darcey. Len added a nice touch of curmudgeonly gruffness to offset Bruno's effusiveness and Darcey's slightly patronising positivity.

Report
SapphireStrange · 20/12/2016 16:33

She'd have to be less annoying and more serious as a judge. Grin

Seriously, though, she would be ace –she's a ballroom and Latin expert and Len was the only one of those on the current panel; and she's competed in the show so she knows what it's like.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/12/2016 16:30

Please not Karen on the judging panel. She's annoying enough on ITT.

TBF it worked for Caroline Ringer Flack and Pasha, if memory serves. I think in that case, though, a) she was better than Louise and better able to deliver the interpretation required for that kind of wafting and dragging dancing and b) it genuinely expressed their relationship, which was lovely and which I think the voting audience responded to.

IMO Kevin made the mistake of thinking the audience loved his partnership with Louise as much as he did, and miscalculated.

Sapphire, I so agree about Danny's showdance. It would have been so much better to go for something that showed a different side to him, more akin to his Charleson or American Smooth. Attempts at dramatism never work in showdances, and that's been demonstrated all too often. Maybe if Oti gets to that position in future years she'll watch Ore's and Tom Chambers' showdances and learn.

Late to this and haven't RTFT, so apologies if I'm being annoying!

Tameka: pps have mentioned it but I think she was injured; she was propping her leg up on a chair or something backstage.

Re: Louise/Darcey lady of the night comment –in the AT the story/character is often 'man and prostitute'. It wasn't a personal insult!

I am SO pleased Ore won. Louise's Flashdance was half-hearted, self-conscious and embarrassing. Her showdance was all meaningless wafting. Her AT was wobbly.

Danny fucked up his first dance. His showdance – Oti really let him down. Repetitious, dull choreography –they reminded me of a couple of agility dogs at Crufts jumping through endless hoops.

Shite music.

Generalised emoting.

Wild and lazy movements.

It was all very deep and meaningless. She'd have served him better going for something with more element of showmanship, maybe based on his Charleston and AS.

Ore's Singin' in the Rain was as good as before and his showdance was really really clever work by Jo – classic song; lovely nostalgic choreography and setting; played to all his strengths and showcased them as a partnership.

His jive was ice-cool and full of character. People loved it before because it was such a wonderful early-stage surprise, and I think they were itching to see it again. Clever clever Jo!

Karen for head judge. The others can stay, although Bruno does grate on me.

Darcy spends too much time commenting on people's appearance.
Bruno gushes too much - he needs to remember it's not called 'The Bruno Show'.
I have no time for Karen Harding - when she was the prizegiver at a local children's awards ceremony, her few words of welcome were eventually interrupted at 25 minutes. She seemed to have forgotten the point of the ceremony and was instead treating the evening as an opportunity to boast about how great she was. She hadn't even reached SCD in her litany of the awards and acheivements of KH.

I'd love to see Arlene back and whatever happens, CRH to be head judge.

I thought Darcey was right to look for emotional connection of some sort, particularly in dances like the waltz, paso, tango and rhumba. They just don't work if the participants just dance at each other and go through the steps.
