Time for a new thread.

I am hoping by the end of this thread Phelan will have disappeared, Anna and family will have moved away and someone will have remembered to book a babysitter for baby Jack.

OP posts:

Mary and Norris....a very touching episode. Corrie always used to have occasional scenes like that, which seemed so true to life, and so different to the current themes such as Maria's sex life, Nick and Peter's silly feud, various people moving in and out of front rooms, flats, houses.

Rachel0Greep · 07/12/2016 22:38

Missed tonight, but got general gist.
I agree, Mary and Norris both very well acted parts.
I liked, I think it was last week, when Norris asked Erica if she wanted to join them in the pub. She was sitting on her own, and worrying about Mary. Little moments like that make me think that Corrie can be rescued from the horrible mediocrity provided by the likes of Maria, Fizz, Caz, Sinead, Ches... (too many to name them all).

theliverpoolone · 07/12/2016 22:53

I agree that Mary and Norris acted their scene well tonight. However, I felt a bit Hmm at the subject matter; it somehow didn't feel right that Mary could have been around as long as she has with not the slightest hint that she might have a child. Also, it feels too similar to when Hayley had a long lost son, which didn't end well. No doubt Mary's son will now turn up within the month, living in Rosamund St or somewhere just as near.

Akire · 07/12/2016 23:09

My money was on Mary being adopted or left and making up mother stuff. Have to see how quickly it gets round the street. So Norris tell Rita who be over heard. Erica tell Dev and kids will hear and everyone will know.

FantasticButtocks · 08/12/2016 08:04

I don't think Norris will tell anyone

eddiemairswife · 08/12/2016 10:33

I wonder if Norris might do some delving on his own.

SymphonyofShadows · 08/12/2016 10:40

I thought Norris was great last night. The actress who plays Mary always does really well with whatever they throw at her (the awful married lover) so I have high hopes for it being handled well.

Who is Peter's mystery woman? We are supposed to think it's Leanne aren't we? There aren't that many other contenders unless it's someone we don't know.

zukiecat · 08/12/2016 11:53

Has anyone told Daniel that his mum ran off with Zak Dingle and is alive and well over in The Dales?

I agree that Mary and Norris were brilliant last night and I think that Norris won't say anything but he'll urge Mary to confide in Rita

How old would Mary's son be now? Is she supposed to be mid forties, so he would be around 30?

I thought the scene with Norris and Mary was good too. Poor Mary, the experiences she described are just so horrible. I hope the story line has some positive outcomes for the character.

Clawdy · 08/12/2016 14:32

That scene in the pub with Peter and Daniel and the chatty woman who moved in on Peter was ridiculous, so badly written and implausible. Last night's episode was a very odd and uneasy mix.

Akire · 08/12/2016 15:08

Is Peter staying put? Can understand why Daniel is now in show having no home but since Ken is quite well what are they all supposed to be doing to look after him?

Not even beyond Tracey to cook tea few times a week. They need jobs!

eddiemairswife · 08/12/2016 15:38

I'm wondering what Peter is doing for money. I thought he'd had problems with whoever employed him in the boat business, and he doesn't appear to be looking for work, though he's bound to be a dab hand at sewing knickers.

cheapskatemum · 08/12/2016 16:22

Grin zukiecat DH watches both & I passively imbibe Emmerdale, so that made me laugh.

If Mary is in her mid forties, it's sad that, as late as the eighties, mothers locked their pregnant teenaged daughters away and left the baby on hospital steps. Even if only in Corrie Land. It must have been over the summer holidays, otherwise her school would have been asking where she was.

loinnir · 08/12/2016 16:52

Didn't Carla give Peter half the factory? Their divorce settlement never mentioned of course. Is Peter squirrelling away Anna and Tracey's rent on the flat and shop for Simon - he would have a tidy sum by now. Did Leanne get half of that in her divorce from Peter?

Agree with others - was a strange mix last night. Couldn't Peter have gone to the police with Daniel later in the day? Daniel's mum has been missing for 6 years- another few hours so Peter could go to Simon's reawakened counselling wouldn't have hurt.

A few weeks ago it looked like Joanie was leaving Emmerdale and I wondered if she would pop up as Denise again in the Street.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 08/12/2016 16:53

zukie I can't take the 'disappearance' of Denise O seriously at all knowing she's just down the road in Yorkshire. Still can't believe Zak left Lisa for her!!!

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 08/12/2016 16:57

sweetwater isn't Johnny gone to live in Carla's flat? And Aidan lives with Eva so Kate would have a spare room.

Maria's 'put down' to Kate makes no sense given Caz was in love with
Maria too!!!

southeastdweller · 08/12/2016 19:15

it somehow didn't feel right that Mary could have been around as long as she has with not the slightest hint that she might have a child

Agreed. The actors were great but this new story for Mary feels clunky and inappropriate.

Optimist1 · 08/12/2016 21:22

Given that Norris is probably a good person underneath all the nosiness, he is fond of Mary and he's one of the few people in Weatherfield who has become computer savvy I think he'll undertake online investigations on her behalf and track down her son.

loinnir · 08/12/2016 21:40

southeastdweller I agree it does feel clunky. Would have been better if "mother" was made up or her mother turned up and she was nothing like Mary's descriptions. Is Mary going to leave do you think? I hope not! Or the son come to live in Dev's ever expanding house

SoTheySentMeA · 08/12/2016 21:56

I think Norris does have a strange loyalty to those he really cares about. They're not always above his gossiping but sometimes they are.

SoTheySentMeA · 08/12/2016 22:08

Seeing his teary emotional face and Mary's story set me off.

southeastdweller · 08/12/2016 22:11

I thought Melanie Hill was fab in that last scene tonight with Roy. She makes her character seem almost real.

eddiemairswife · 08/12/2016 22:49

I'm so bored with Billy and Todd. I don't care if Billy stays in the Church or not. In real life someone in his position would probably go on retreat for a few days to pray and think quietly about his future. Not Billy . He meets the Bishop (in the Bistro?) and immediately decides to pack it all in. I expect him to end up sewing knickers.

deloresclaiborne · 09/12/2016 07:40

wheres liz and steve gone, they aint been in it for ages.
how can leanne afford that massive car that we've never seen before.
why do they always have big fancy cars. didnt maria drive a vw beetle.
why cant they drive a clapped out fiesta like me
