2 years ago a thread on Our Girl was started with these words ^Anyone watching this drivel?
although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it^

38,000 posts, fireside wrestling contests, fan-fiction, autograph requests, carol concerts, CJ Grand Tours later we are about to watch series 2! And that first post is a distant memory.

Join us on what is sure to be an amazing journey over the next 5 weeks

Have just finished watching OG and still unsure how I feel, agree Lane wearing too much make up, parts of the story very similar to s1, too much going on, slightly confusing timelines. The ending was exciting so hopefully will get better in ep2. Missed LT, she was so natural as Molly Dawes.

The positives CJ looking stunning as usual, loved 2 section's banter.

AlittleinlustwithRA · 08/09/2016 15:27

Can I just say Woof I am in awe of your objective, analytical insights Grin. Am I right in thinking you are OnlyTeasing on FF? If so, I have a request - more of your musings in story form please though I can't promise I will adore you for always - seeing as my heart belongs to a certain Captain or two.

cjwoofwoof · 08/09/2016 16:45

Aw thanks ali it's nice to know that my intelligent perception and appreciation of the dramatic drama of the dramatisation has not gone unnoticed. I feel it balances well against iloves tendencies for utter filth.

And yes I'm thinking of resurrecting the Our Girl meets Poldark ff to incorporate CJs frequent revealing of tent flaps and participation in naked pasty-chiselling in the depths of the butty mines just as soon as I've finished reading the full works of Shakespeare Grin

Rhubarb01 · 08/09/2016 16:55

Finally had a chance to rewatch with a bit of rewind involved here and there and I feel as though I have absorbed it better now and have my head around the story a little more. Still not entirely sure how I feel - undoubtedly enjoyable but we need some unexpected twists and turns as at the moment it feels like it is going to plan if that makes any sense.

Just out of interest I had a trawl for some reviews which were varied. The Guardian seemed to torn between being slightly derisory - sorry woof but there was mention of a "special forces prat called Elvis" - and debating the juxtaposition of the ugliness of the situation compared to the loveliness of Georgie Lane. He moaned about CJ using "Lane" too often in the dialogue but failed to notice the absolute gorgeousness of said Captain - what can you expect from a bloke. He also made reference to the "Sugartits" comment. However, my favourite word from the whole piece was 'pulchritude' which, if like me, you had never heard before is just a clever word for beauty. Must find a reason to use it but to be honest it sounds like it ought to mean the exact opposite as in "OMG that little boy has a pulchritude of maggots in his mouth" Confused.

cjwoofwoof · 08/09/2016 17:11

Humph now I know why I don't read the Guardian Rhu. Anyone who calls Elvis a prat must be a right numpty. Ditto re pulchritude - sounds like an 18th century Cornish disease. "Unclean, unclean, you have a severe dose of putrid pulchritude contracted from over-indulgence of putrescent pilchards"

I'm wasted on here Grin

Ilovelblue · 08/09/2016 17:15

Like most of you, I have been thinking of last night's episode rather a lot today.

I did rewind and watch Elvis a time or four and then watched the rest of the episode all the way through. I liked it a lot. OK, so there are some discrepancies which just wouldn't happen in real life and I am sure Georgie's makeup and the internet usage are just two of them, but we had loads of errors in the first series as well and eventually we took it all with a pinch of salt and accepted it as artistic licence or plot devise or whatever. Did we honestly think that a female medic would have shared quarters with a group of young men or that the CO and his young female medic would have gone to see what was hidden under a possibly booby trapped sheet, aka Sohail?

There are far more positives than negatives, well in Ilove's eyes anyway!

Top of the list is that CJ is actually in it. Let's face it, they could have gone for a whole new cast, or he might not have wanted to be in it.

I like CJ's more mature attitude in this series. Yes, he's authoritative but he seems to have lost a lot of the cockiness and chauvinistic views from series 1. Remember his comments about "stags only" and Molly wearing her stilettoes? He let Two Section make rude comments and never once stamped on them but I noticed last night when one of the lads (was it Monks?) said something sexist to her, he told him off (not memorised the entire script yet, sorry. That's my next job).

I think TG has either read some of these threads himself or has been told about some of our conversations and he was certainly well aware of our love of CJ and MD so I genuinely don't think he would have written CJ having an affair with Georgie. I reckon she'll have enough on her hands with a doctor and an SAS captain.

... and talking of a certain Special Forces captain, he is a definite positive at Ilove Towers. I presume he storms the barricades, shoots the terrorists and rescues Georgie single-handed next week, probably at the same time as admiring his good looks in a mirror or something!

One of the main points I did find odd was how CJ kept calling Georgie "Lane". I know it's a Forces thing generally but as he had attended her non-wedding as best man and she seems to be a friend of Molly's, I thought addressing her as "Lane" when there was nobody else around a bit strange.

That said though, I can't wait until 8pm next Wednesday when more of the story unravels.

Grin Grin Grin

Oh Woof it's definitely time for the LLC's to ride again! You have a plethora of captains to choose from now.

pixieg1rl · 08/09/2016 19:06

Can we add Nick Medhurst to our LLC list? It would please that old scrubber nickel no end, and she doesn't get out much.

I think coming up to 24 hours later I still only have positive feelings about it; I'm really interested to see where TG takes it after the rescue (of course she's gonna get rescued). I really don't want to second guess it, but it looks like MK can pull some good acting out of the bag, which gives me faith that the story will be able to be a bit challenging.

I of course fell completely in lust love lust oh my god I want to cover him in marmite and roll him in cheese straws then lick it off with Fingers. The dialogue between him and CJ was great. Brains was really sweet, Dangles and the mysterious Glennis, Mansfield (at least his flack jacket fits better than CJs did in S1 so let's hope he makes it) and Monk was good. I'll try and stop concentrating on the not Kenya parts and resist the urge to drawl the army's information governance policies for the own phone in the field/ plentiful wifi situations. Grin

moojangles · 08/09/2016 19:13

You can pay to top up the given internet or phone cards from both ends. As for own devices, assume that to be theatre/location specific.

I have clearly not given it as much thought as the rest of you, but I am staying true to CJ. Medhurst comes a close second

AlittleinlustwithRA · 08/09/2016 19:38

Excellent indeed Woof.

pixieg1rl · 08/09/2016 19:51

Thanks mooj Grin

I also read the Guardian review and I hate to disagree with you Rhu but it was written by a woman. I can't begin to understand how she could rave on so about MK's beauty yet completely overlook the gorgeous males - CJ of course and I'm going to include Elvis. I've never watched muscateers so don't know LP from that but he's very easy on the eye. Fingers on the other hand I'm afraid does nothing for me, sorry!

I was however pleased to see that there was a review at all - I'm sure there probably wasn't this time two years ago, it seems much higher profile no doubt thanks to MK's tabloid appeal.

Ilovelblue · 09/09/2016 08:32

I googled the reviews as well Always. I wondered why the male leads didn't get a mention in the Guardian. It's definitely much higher profile this time.

pixie Fingers doesn't really do it for me in THAT way. I've had two pleasant mornings considering Elvis' attributes though. Looks as if I might need to share him with Always by the sounds of it.

They seem to have developed Fingers' character this time! His lines made me chuckle.

Mansfield has to survive!

lloupey · 09/09/2016 10:12

Hope you don't mind me joining it but had to vent that I'm really disappointed with this series so far! I absolutely loved the last one but thought the script this time was so bad I had to rewatch some of the old episodes just to check I hadn't imagined how great it was! I can't take MK seriously, is it only me or is the gleam of her teeth really off putting? She does seem like an ok actress in fairness but I think you just warmed so much more to the LT character in the last series. I was so looking forward to seeing CJ again but thus far he seems to have just been repeating stock phrases from last time and not really having a role, he's lost the gravitas that partly made him so appealing last time. Sorry rant over, just hoping it improves after all this anticipation!

pixieg1rl · 09/09/2016 10:12

He really is looking lovely, thanks for that nickel

pixieg1rl · 09/09/2016 10:14

Just a little something for your ovaries woof Wink

moojangles · 09/09/2016 10:34

So am I getting cj to myself now then,?

Ilovelblue · 09/09/2016 10:47

Don't be greedy mooj. You always knew he would be shared out!

I would say that Elvis is my back up plan! Haha.

Bellini12 · 09/09/2016 10:48

I was a contributor on the original OG thread way back when as was so taken with the series, the acting, the cinematography, the music, the suspense and of course the lovely CJ!

I did enjoy this recent episode but although I feel MK is a good actress, like others have said she was just too polished; her plumped up lips (if you see pics of her in Corrie she definitely didn't look like this), her deep tan, glowing teeth etc. She just wasn't gritty or realistic like Lacey or have the vulnerability and like ability. Although I have to say she looked stunning in the wedding scenes!

I also agree that CJ was rolled out to almost tick the boxes for the fans, he didn't seem to have the authority he had before, his team were answering back to him and whilst he has softened, to me he was almost a charicature of himself. But then I suppose this series is less about him. He's just lost that vulnerability which we all adored!

Finally, did nobody working on the series notice the overuse of "ASAP"?! Argh!

I am looking forward to next week though and would love it if Molly made a cameo!

Ilovelblue · 09/09/2016 10:51

Nickel I watched Motherland last night. It was quite good though not what I would class as comedy. Capt Medhurst wasn't on much and was predictably a middle class posh boy type. Was it a one-off?

Nickel45 · 09/09/2016 11:14

ilove think woof has already staked her claim Andy anything else she could on Elvis!

Agree with your comment on the teeth loup, hi by the way, good to have you back ...and bel 😀 and the overuse of ASAP.... Aargh! I'm not as hooked, but last time took me till ep 3, for me it felt a bit disjointed, but will see how it all pans out. must remember to concentrate on the storylines rather than the low slungs

Motherland was a pilot ilove, shame Nick medhurst wasn't in uniform and being Nick medhurst! Apparently there have been good reviews but no announcement of a series yet. It made me laugh .. very true to life (well, in an exaggerated way, but isn't that the point). I did see one review which likened it to being a televised mumsnet ... Clearly hadn't read this thread for including naked fireside wrestling then!
