Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

OP posts:

The upcycling programme is called "Money for Nothing" and features Sarah Moore - if you google her she has her own web page which shows the sort of thing she does. The programme is usually on BBC1 about 4-ish in the afternoon.

KittensandKnitting · 05/07/2016 12:30

Ahhh thank you! But I think I may have seen this, or maybe it was an itv one I saw! I was hoping it would be more upcycling of clothes :)

I saw one with a monopoly set where the player pieces were sent off to be silver plated and made into charms and sold for a 2p profit more than this really or something!

redexpat · 05/07/2016 13:44

I have just followed as many of them on twitter. I like Patrick's tweet about Esme: Like Yoda with a bob and a statement necklace.

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/07/2016 13:45

That's the one, Kittens (love your name btw). It often features Bex and her DP, she is a rather amazing blacksmith of whom I have become a fan :)

RueDeWakening · 05/07/2016 13:46

I think Charlotte deserved to win, despite the shirt and the zip. Her LBD was amazing, I really liked the bow tie addition as well.

I liked the design of Jade's final dress, but the fabrics she chose looked a bit odd. Joyce had an absolute shocker! Her dress looked a bit steampunk, and her granddaughter looked really uncomfortable wearing it.

Roussette · 05/07/2016 13:54

Esme: Like Yoda with a bob and a statement necklace.

I love that Grin

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 05/07/2016 14:27

Charlotte was lovely, they all were but she shouldn't have won on that zipper alone!

I think if Jade had finished her train properly and solved her own fitting issues (the front waist on hers was definitely lumpy) then she'd have snatched it (Joyce was doomed, though... why does someone always have a brain fart in the final?).

It did seem to go back to the alterations round, and I agree with the judges that that showed Charlotte had the best intrinsic understanding of clothes and shapes and fabric. It was a really close year, though.

YesThisIsMe · 05/07/2016 14:35

Joyce couldn't possibly have won with a dress whose waistband was held together with safety pins. So given that the remaining two evening dresses were great but flawed, then the judges had to look back to the first day and had the choice between one contestant who'd turned in two rather good garments and a contestant who'd done one outstanding one and one with a serious flaw. Tricky choice but they have to go for the one with the spark of excellence I think.

ijustwannadance · 05/07/2016 14:49

I hoped Jade would win but I don't think any of the them were great this year tbh.

She had more of the youthful fashion element in her clothes. In a couple of years with more experience she will be fantastic.

I loved Chinello when she was on.

KittensandKnitting · 05/07/2016 15:17

Thanks silver, toyed with changing as I can only knit scarves, much better at the sewing :) I think I have seen the blacksmiths... I shall need to revisit this!

Like yoda with a bob and statement necklace! That is hilarious :)

I think the guy who did the more tailored stuff was quite good, Jamie was it? I think he would have produced something great I just think in that week he left he gave up for some reason. I would have liked to see what else he could do.

I think the challenges this time were much harder than they have ever been and that's why some of the standards slipped a bit I think.

KittensandKnitting · 05/07/2016 15:19

And still think that zipper was an immediate fail :) I can get over the train that would be ok to wear, you could live with that. Having my bottom all bumpy more bumpy nope, not working think it was the wrong choice :):)

situatedknowledge · 05/07/2016 15:22

I think previous years have had better sewers, but our whole family has loved the addition of Esme. She is utterly fabulous.

YesThisIsMe · 05/07/2016 16:06

I'm sure May Martin is a lovely person and a fine sewer, but she was very forgettable, whereas Esme is TV gold, and also very well qualified for the job.

frenchfancy · 05/07/2016 16:26

I think Charlotte was the rightful winner. Her dress was the only one you could really walk in. If Jade's train had been lined and she didn't have the fit problem at the front ( and it hadn't been orange ) then she would have been in with a chance.

I think Jade has a good career ahead of her, It would be great if she went on the study under Esme.

Does anyone know if any of them have a blog?

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/07/2016 16:28

Ha Kittens I can't sew (well I can hem, sew buttons on, and long ago in th 1970s when jeans and trousers were worn very tight I was forced to learn how to put zips in by hand as the zips would suddenly go), but I can knit :)

Roussette · 05/07/2016 16:28

I really liked May but I agree that she was more forgettable, but Esme!! Well, what she wears is off the wall and just to see Patrick bending down to talk to her and then her staring up to the sky to speak to him just tickles me!

JudyCoolibar · 05/07/2016 18:23

I'm really in awe of Jade - she's come so far in only around four years, she's so meticulous and she's not afraid of giving anything a go. I don't think she necessarily deserved to win, but I'm sure she'll go far.

RueDeWakening · 05/07/2016 18:28

Jade and Charlotte are both on twitter - redhairsews is Jade, and I think charlotte_sews is Charlotte. Not seen any blogs yet

So, do we think that Esme created any of the challenge patterns? I do wonder about that skirt in the semi final - I've ordered the fabric to make my own, just waiting for it to arrive...I must be mad :o

redexpat · 05/07/2016 18:34

frenchfancy some of them are on twitter. Tracy, Patrick, Jade, Rumana, Charlotte.

I loved Jades alteration recreations for her little sister. So sweet!

frenchfancy · 05/07/2016 19:00

RueDeWakening If you are mad you are in good company - My book arrived yesterday, bought especially for the skirt pattern.

cate16 · 05/07/2016 19:45

frenchfancy and RueDeWakening I've bought book and fabric just to make the skirt too :)

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 21:45

We could have a skirt wearing get together! Mine is still cut out awaiting attention but I have got three dresses and a top half made/to finish and am making myself finish those before starting something else.

BurningGubbins · 06/07/2016 08:08

I think the rest of us will need to see pictures of the finished skirts please!

SoupDragon · 06/07/2016 08:10

I really want to make the skirt from a challenge point of view. I so want to see how it fits together! But I don't really wear skirts other than short lightweight summer ones and I don't think that kind of fabric would work.

Roussette · 06/07/2016 08:40

Yes,deffo pictures!

I'm a lapsed sewer and if you're talking about that puzzle of a skirt, I'd probably be incapable now!
