Just saw a lovely trailer, it starts on 26th May. Can't wait

OP posts:

And in fact, surely she's on MN. Come out come out wherever you are Charlotte!

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/07/2016 23:06

I saw Chenelo on a programme in the afternoon "Money for Nothing" I think it was called. A crap name for a nice little program, the presenter upcycled stuff from recycling centres (with special permission), using professional blacksmiths, furniture restorers and the like. Chenello was one of them, and made some clothes from the leather off old sofas. She seemed to have a thriving bespoke business :)

dillite · 05/07/2016 00:02

I can't believe Charlotte won. I thought it would have been Jade. Although I did prefer Charlotte's work overall- not tonight's dress though.

KittensandKnitting · 05/07/2016 00:13

I just caught up with Sewing Bee and so annoyed!

She didn't deserve to win at all!

Last year i disagreed too, Jade deserved to win that 100%

LyndaNotLinda · 05/07/2016 05:40

I thought she deserved to win. Her dress was the only one that actually fitted.

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 06:59

I think the right person won too. Charlotte was generally the best at detail and her final dress was definitely the best of the three. She was always prepared to do a bit of hand finishing. Best all rounder imo.

What a lovely woman.

You have got to be brave to do GBSB!

Mad challenge the evening one in the time allocated.

Joyce had a bad final challenge and I didn't like her choice and Jade's wasn't a good fit/had more errors than Charlotte's.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2016 07:06

Badly in the case of that zip! I kind of disagree about her dress fitting because it wasn't really a fitted style.

I think I just feel a little cheated as I don't think any of them would have been in a previous year's final.

Roussette · 05/07/2016 07:31

I think Joyce knew she'd blown it when Patrick spotted the safety pin and 6 inches too big round the waist! Quite right too really, she messed it up but she was great fun during the series.

A worthy winner for this series but didn't think the evening dresses were up to previous years. bring back the dominatrix outfit with whips chains and top hat!

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 08:17

Poor Joyce had a bad final challenge didn't she.

Hats off to all of them though, I wouldn't want to rush like that.

I could see the scientist in Charlotte, how she approached everything methodically and am amazed at the difference in her imagination/creativity in the alteration challenges from beginning of show to end.

I am a mathematician and sew well by following the instructions and taking my time, my imagination is extremely lacking and I would have returned the duvet cover washed and ironed.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2016 08:24

I think Joyce wasted so much time trying to sort out where the pleats in the bustle should go that she ran out of time elsewhere.

Roussette · 05/07/2016 08:39

Yes, and it was a bit of a period drama look as opposed to chic evening wear. Plus I hate white lace, does it really look good on anything apart from a doyley Grin

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 08:48

Grin. I reckon you could have made it more evening like without the lace and with different fabric. Still a bit Jane Austen but could have been better!

I bet Charlotte's fabric was an absolute pig to manage. I thought she did a good job on fit, it would have been easy to make it look odd at the bust or gape at the armhole and shoulder.

They are all so kind and nice to each other aren't they, all the way through the show.

I only watch the news on bbc4 at 7 and maybe the odd thing that follows the news, this and Call the Midwife when it is on. I will have to find something to watch with DD once a week to replace this as we have really enjoyed sitting down together and following it.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2016 08:49

It looks damn fine on a Victorian dress made out of a bed sheet :o

TheSilveryPussycat · 05/07/2016 08:59

I had to grin at I would have returned the duvet cover washed and ironed.

I thought Charlotte was a worthy winner.

Kwirrell · 05/07/2016 09:11

I loved this, they were all so kind to each other. Jade telling Charlotte the seam allowance on the collar was so generous, even though it was too late to save her shirt.

It was good to see such an age range in the final. They all love sewing for pleasure but I am sure that Jade will soon make a very successful career from it.

LunaLoveg00d · 05/07/2016 09:15

Loved the final last night, allowed my 10 year old to stay up as a special treat as she was desperate to see it too. We both loved Jade's dress in the last round and agreed that making dress shirts was far too stressful and very difficult. Joyce's made to measure was just such an odd choice, not suitable at all for her teenage granddaughter who looked very uncomfortable wearing it - probably because of the safety pins at the waist. Jade did amazingly well considering her lack of experience and showed a real creative flair.

It was Heather who did the top hat dress and it was stunning. I have seen Chinello on the upcycling programme too and she's great - if Sewing Bee had been about innovative fashion design she would have won hands down. But it's not, it's about following the patterns and having great sewing skills which is why Charlotte won.

BurningGubbins · 05/07/2016 09:34

I've just caught up. I thought Charlotte deserved to win, but agree that the standard this year wasn't quite there.

I loved the series as usual though, roll on next year (when I'll still be wondering what to do with my dinosaur fabric...).

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 09:40

tres chic Burning ????

I wonder if this year's sewers were actually more amateur than in previous years, as in do many of them sew for a living (small time obvs).

BurningGubbins · 05/07/2016 09:46

Ooh, I do like that... There was me planning on using it for the kids, pah!

CatherineDeB · 05/07/2016 09:54

I don't buy many clothes for me as I make most of them but places like White Stuff often use quirky fabrics.

MrFMercury · 05/07/2016 10:00

I'm happy. I'd have been happy with either Charlotte or Jade tbh. There was something about Joyce I never really warmed too. Plus making a skirt that is 6 or 8 inches too big in the final is unforgivable. Jade got better and better because she listened to the feedback each week where as no matter how often they told Joyce that her designs were too loose or old fashioned she never listened. She just ploughed on regardless sure that she was correct and that final made to measure was awful.

LordyMe · 05/07/2016 10:06

I wanted Jade to win but couldn't argue with the result. I like Sewing Bee - it's a nice show and no one is mean

SunnyL · 05/07/2016 11:23

I'm so impressed with the shirt challenge. I've made a few shirts for DH now and it takes me weeks to put it together. I was going to do the pin tuck shirt in the book but after last night I'm not sure - might be too fiddly with the pin tucks

carabos · 05/07/2016 11:26

Charlotte looked like the winner from the off, but I did think Jade might edge her in the final as she's got more creativity and potential. Interesting family dynamics in Charlotte's case Confused.

KittensandKnitting · 05/07/2016 11:56

This made me giggle!! Because no it doesn't so wrong on so many levels :)

Charlotte was lovely, they all were but she shouldn't have won on that zipper alone! That was not fitted, that poor woman, who wants their bum to look like that! Maybe not so much harmony between them ;) it was as bad as Joyce's extra six inches IMO.

However all impressive given the time constraints.

what is the up cycling programme?? Pretty please, sounds like something i should be investigating!!
