My word I'm glad it's Friday! Shitty old week!!! House is a bomb site and need to try and build up the energy to sort it but just want to lie on the sofa and not get up!
Glad the bathroom is nearly there ilove Smile

Onlygirljen · 21/05/2016 08:34

Thanks all on the house! Am now frantically cleaning hiding shit away so I can get mine on the market asap. Confused Anybody want to send CJ round to help - I need some assistance he could stay in the bedroom and work there

pixieg1rl · 21/05/2016 09:31

Sympathies Jen I've just had my monthly stress out at MrP that we've got too much stuff, the house is a shit tip and why do I stand on Lego/hot wheels/playmobil every time I turn around? Getting and then keeping a house tidy enough for viewings is stressful enough in itself.

Can you chuck it all in boxes and stash it in the loft for now?

Ilovelblue · 21/05/2016 09:54

Be honest Jen, you'd never get any house stuff done if we get CJ to you but he would take your mind off EVERYTHING!

Last werkend I stuffed things everywhere before the plumbers arrived, including some bits in the breadbin!

Richtea19 · 21/05/2016 13:15

Sympathies jen with the clear out! Our loft is full of shit!!! Every year I have a turn out but still manage to accumulate more! The garage is the same, a dumping ground. Had the plumber over this morning to tell us our pipe work all needs replacing as well as the new boiler! All this for a teeny tiny bathroom!! Massive mess and chaos!!!

Nickel45 · 21/05/2016 17:18

Congrats jen although don't envy you the packing. It took my DH six months to move from his one bed flat to our house! figuring he'd never leave me, as it'd take him too long!

Nickel45 · 21/05/2016 17:20

That didn't make sense now I reread it! I meant it took him six months from when we moved into our house, for him to pack all his stuff and move it over. It's late, I'm knackered, been a crap day ... I shouldn't post when it's like that, should I!, off to get the kids tea now .. Ooh, the excitement!! HmmConfusedSmile

pixieg1rl · 21/05/2016 17:31

It sounds like you'd get a fair amount of warning if he did decide to move out nickel Wink

Onlygirljen · 21/05/2016 17:57

The thought of going into my attic fills me with dread, never mind actually emptying it. Going to get quotes from moving companies to see if I can justify using one of them to avoid complete mental breakdown. Only if I manage to actually sell mine first ConfusedConfused

pixieg1rl · 21/05/2016 18:37

We paid (a lot less than I expected) for pack and move. It was the best money I spent on that move better than the structural/damp/asbestos surveys that the vendors ignored. We should have got rid of about the third of the stuff before we moved but that's another story.

Stay strong Jen, it will pass. What's the housing market like up your way?

Berlin585 · 21/05/2016 19:44

Apologies, as usual so behind on everything, reading the thread, FF!!

ilove glad to hear the bathroom is more or less finished. Can you now go out and buy the 'nice to have' accessories?

jen a house move how exciting. I'm afraid I'm the hoarder in this house and dread to think what moving would be like. Been here nearly 15yrs so it'd be horrendous.

moo I hope you're managing to have a relaxing weekend after your stressful week.

Miserable weather here.....just about to open the chocolate whilst watching tv!

Have a good weekend all

MaddieMoo82 · 21/05/2016 19:54

It made sense nickel! I think MrMads still has a few belongings at his mums (I'm not sure if I should read anything in to that!!)

Crappy wet day here. Am in bed with my kindle but might venture downstairs in a bit. Hmm

Ilovelblue · 21/05/2016 22:56

Evening. Babysitting for my friend's two kids. Just seen her enjoying a meal with her sister and two friends on Facebook. Wish she'd get back home as I'm kn........d and want to get to bed. Fortunately it's only a few mins drive when she turns up!

Ilovelblue · 21/05/2016 23:46

Berlin the flooring is being done hopefully at the end of next week and the decorator is doing the ceiling and door Mon/Tue along with my front hall. Not sure if I've mentioned it before but there's a chest which belonged to my parents in the hall. I'd assumed it to be around 60 years old and couldn't decide whether to chuck it out and get something else or whether to have it professionally restored. The furniture restorer said it was 1920s so as I'd not seen anything I really liked, I'm having it repolished and the drawers realigned. It was obvious when he pointed out a few signs that it was earlier than I first thought. It'll be away a couple of weeks I think.

moojangles · 22/05/2016 15:48

rhu, updates as gorgeous as usual

Berlin585 · 22/05/2016 18:00

ilove getting that chest restored sounds like a lovely idea. I bet it'll look beautiful. Last year I had a chair restored. It had been made by my great grandfather and it had been varnished so it was so dark. I had it striped back and new cushions made. I also found some embroidery my great grandma had made so that's on it too. I love the idea, though of course it has just become a clothes horse!

MaddieMoo82 · 22/05/2016 18:26

2 amazing updates rhu and you are spoiling us by not keeping us waiting for the second chapter thank you!
Fat and full after my mums roast but got a Himalayan height ironing pile to help me burn it off Confused

Rhubarb01 · 22/05/2016 19:48

Thanks mooj and mads. Must admit I don't often have a second chapter waiting to update but the last two were written as a kind of two-parter so I thought I'd just go ahead.

Exciting news jen. Good luck with everything. You've got a different system up in Scotland for house buying haven't you? We've been in our house nearly 18 years and there's still stuff in the loft that was never unpacked. I keep wondering where certain books or items are that I haven't seen for years and the answer is usually up in the roof.

I've been watching the 'Home Fires' campaign with interest. They are getting quite a lot of coverage in the national press etc thanks to their 20,000 + petition, sending jars of jam to ITV as a protest and a fair amount of celebrity twitter support. I feel slightly envious when I think how long it took to get an announcement out of the BBC about recommissioning - not that ITV have said they will re-consider but you never know. Actually the thing that's annoyed me most is the Radio Times support because the Editor was always a bit negative about OG but they seem to raving about Home Fires because it's female led drama - great- but OG was also very much female oriented - give or take a few obvious distractions - and contemporary drama as well. Wonder what she'll say about OG2?

Ilovelblue · 22/05/2016 20:48

Completely kn......d tonight as I cut the front hedge this morning before it rained, been for a bike ride, done more post-bathroom cleaning up and now about to empty an overhead cupboard in the hall before the decorator comes tomorrow. Think it will all have to go up in the attic out of the way (and I wonder if it will stay up there or come down again).

It poured down about 1 pm but the sun did come out again mid-afternoon and it's been lovely since then. Did a bit of tidying up in the garden but nothing much. Pruned the grapevine as well.

Rhubarb you have really spoiled us this weekend. Can't wait to see where you are going to take us with this.

Would you say there's been the same amount of post-screening interest in Home Fires as there was in OG? It surely was strange the way the final episode finished.

Off to clear out my cupboard...

Hope everyone's had a good weekend.

Ilovelblue · 22/05/2016 20:49

PS: Richtea good luck with your bathroom tomorrow. It looks as if you've had a good day at Downton/Highclere.

Richtea19 · 22/05/2016 21:05

Lovely day at Highclere thanks ilove, I was with the MIL which is always slightly stressful ! We had a fabulous tour of the castle and then the gardens. It was a long day though, and now home to empty the contents of the bathroom, so many products I've collected and don't use! And I've plastic covered the carpet on the stair, the cats are having fun on that!

kelly I hope the weekend and memorial service went well.

My little DS birthday tomorrow. I'm at work all day and not back till late, DH is in Germany for work. Crap having birthdays on a Monday and a school day :(

Rhubarb01 · 22/05/2016 21:09

ilove I think the Home Fires post screening reaction is probably more high profile if anything. They seem to be going for the 9pm Sunday twitter storm approach, emailing ITV executives, getting the WI behind the campaign and it features in several national papers plus actors on the show joining in as well. Wonder what we should have sent to the BBC after OG to demand recommissioning - dozens of boxes of coco pops? Lots of Rosabya pods? I have to say sending hundreds of protest labelled jars of jam is pretty funny! Something else I've seen is lots of pictures of cream and jam scones and pots of tea saying something like 'Save Home Fires' - well we all like a nice scone don't we! Jam on cream or other way round? Personally I like my cream on top!

P.S. ilove thanks for the comments and review.

Nickel45 · 22/05/2016 21:32

It was definitely a friustrating ending to Home Fires. Love the idea of sending jam, genius! I really hope that the big wig TV Execs start paying attention to what the viewers want rather than always trying to get new things commissioned and losing all the stuff we all really enjoy.

Nickel45 · 22/05/2016 21:33

rhu awesome ff updates, absolutely brilliant, I couldn't wait to find out what was going on. You are definitely spoiling us, such an amazing story, thank you so much xx

Ilovelblue · 22/05/2016 22:33

Richtea sounds as if your trip to Highclere was better than mine. I'd gone with a friend as our joint birthday present and we stayed in Newbury for 2 nights. My friend was seriously into Downton and was bouncing up and down almost with excitement but I found it a big disappointment. The guides were incredibly snooty and pretended not to know much about the filming etc. Let's face it, Downton is the reason most people were there - the Americans in particular. When we went upstairs to the "Downton" bedrooms, there was a massive queue because four selfish and thoughtless women were holding everyone up as they insisted on reading every single notice/piece of information. On top of that, I started with a migraine. My friend kept enthusing about it and that made me even more cross!! It sounds from what you said that the guides have got their act together since we were there. What was the garden tour like?
