I think that's right Dixie.

The Saviours don't seem interested in taking Alexandria any more than they were interested in Hilltop.

They just want tribute.

I suspect that Rick et al will be released in the series premier knowing they have no choice but to comply,

Diddlydokey · 05/04/2016 13:01

I got the wrong end of that stick! I thought he was just going to give someone a beating and presumed it was probably Rick. I found Rick to be very annoying in that scene though.

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/04/2016 13:03

That's one if the reasons I would have liked to see the death.

I would have liked Season 7 to jump forward so we see our group at rock bottom, coming to terms with the death of whoever and having to live as Negan's bitches.

Then a build up to rebellion. Each character's reaction would be extremely interesting. We might get some real surprises as to who wants to fight and who has lost their taste for it.

ElderlyKoreanLady · 05/04/2016 13:08

I don't agree that the unknown would always get people talking more than if we knew who died. Certainly wouldn't be the case if Daryl were killed. So we can probably assume it wasn't him. Wasn't Rick either obviously. Or Coral, because that's the one character in the lineup whose death would provoke Rick to attack the Saviours, then he'd die. I'm thinking probably Aaron, Michonne, Sasha or Rosita. Their deaths wouldn't out-aftermath a cliffhanger. Eugene is a good plot device in a show that is fast running out of intellectuals. Maggie may well be dying anyway but killing the weakest person in the lineup doesn't serve his agenda...he needs the leaders alive so that he can set the example by breaking them to serve his interests but picking off the very vulnerable is far more likely to rile a leader. Abe is a coin toss for me. Taking out the big bloke does send a message but I think he'd serve greater purpose to Negan by being seen to obey. Glenn would be logical I suppose but I'd have positioned him differently in the lineup if he was getting it.

I wouldn't look too much into the 'taking it like a champ' line. It was taken directly from the comics and Glenn isn't really someone you'd expect to stay upright after either. In fact, all of the face shots with the bat were taken from the comics, as was much of the Negan monologue. In fact, an awful lot has been lifted from the comics this half season. Not necessarily a good thing really.

anonacfr · 05/04/2016 13:13

The death would have been an awesome epic cliffhanger. We double have been able to mourn the loss of the character as the climax of a hugely tense scene (like Herschel,s execution) and we would have been left with the shock and wondering how the rest of the group were going to react.

In seven months we'll all be 'so that's who it was' fatigued. and how can they really expect to keep the secret anyway? The dead character actor is not exactly going to be hanging round the set shooting fakes scenes.
Everyone knew Glenn wasn't dead the first time round when the actor was stopped shooting scenes with Jesus.
How are they going to hide a dead 'beloved by all' character?

rallytog1 · 05/04/2016 13:15

My thoughts exactly buttermilk - which is why I think it's Michonne. Glenn would be too obvious (and he has a clear weak point that Negan could exploit in the future), Rosita would be too meh, and Daryl was lying down in the truck so the earlier pov shots couldn't have been him.

Plus killing off Michonne would be the most catastrophic for Rick and the group - she's Rick's partner, Carl's mother figure and the best fighter they've got.

I want it to be Abe though (and from Negan's point of view it would clearly be Abe who'd give him the most trouble).

I wonder if the show is going to pay the actor in question not to film anything else in May to October and just hang around on set occasionally instead. Otherwise we'll know who it is by the end of May (as they start filming s7 at the beginning of the month).

buttermilkpie · 05/04/2016 13:39

Oh god I'd be so pissed off if I found out who it is before watching the episode

JuxtapositionRecords · 05/04/2016 13:57

I really hope it's not michonne, she is my favourite character. Although saying that this series she has been a bit 'weak' - I want her to go back to badass sword wielding michonne!

anonacfr · 05/04/2016 14:02

What do you mean about the earlier POV shots and how it can't be Darryl? I though they referred to all of them Glenn/Michonne/Darryl/Rosita.

VertigoNun · 05/04/2016 14:06

I wouldn't want Michonne to die either. Sad

buttermilkpie · 05/04/2016 14:10

anon when the van door opens the POV looking at it is from someone pretty central in the van, but when the door opens Daryl is slumped right next to the door so it can't be him

anonacfr · 05/04/2016 14:10

See this is exactly why I didn't like the cliffhanger. Everyone is going to start rationalising who they'd rather want to die and when the reveal happens it won't have such a huge emotional impact on the viewers.
I just keep remembering how 'awesome' (in a horribly sick way) Herschel's death was. We've been robbed of that.

anonacfr · 05/04/2016 14:12

But how does it relate to eeny meeny? They all moved after that.

Abraid2 · 05/04/2016 14:12

Definitely someone who came out of that van, rather than someone who was with Rick, because of the two scenes before shot from a first person POV, which seemed to be in a dark space with light coming through the cracks in a door.

Some speculation on the web that it is Michonne because of the way it seemed to be the POV of someone on the passenger side of the van, but not at the front, as you can see a head in front of them.

JuxtapositionRecords · 05/04/2016 14:17

God yes, Hershel's death I was like this Shock for days

buttermilkpie · 05/04/2016 14:18

anon because the death was also shot in first person POV it implies a link between a character inside the van and the one being killed. Agree that Herschel's death was so powerful as nobody saw it coming. If season 7 is all about them carrying on without the victim then I see no reason why we couldn't have found out last night who it was.

redhat · 05/04/2016 14:29

It must be Glenn surely. In the talking dead they said there were clues in the episode. Negan likes the ladies, he won't like another relationship (and he clearly now knows about glenn and maggie) but more importantly they were talking about the fallout and sadness from this episode. Therefore its not going to be eugene, rosita, sasha or abe because they're not primary characters. It must be someone much loved. Its not rick or carl because of the comments about anyone talking would result in cutting out carl's eye and feeding it to rick. Its unlikely to be michonne given the fact that she's female and that only leaves Daryl and Glenn.

My money is on Glenn. There's been too much talk about the happy ever after, get married have a baby scenario plus hints of Abe and sasha starting to think it might be possible to have a semi normal life as a couple.

No point speculating about camera angles etc since they also said on the talking dead that they'd anticipated that.

Glenn does make sense. He dodged death under the dumpster and when shot at when overun by walkers. Nobody has that many lives.

GetAHaircutCarl · 05/04/2016 14:55

dixie I agree.

By October most viewers will not be too worried, which will be out of step with the characters.

FelineFrisky · 05/04/2016 15:09

Ooh, glad I've found this thread!

IF we assume it's one of the POV characters, then I reckon Rosita or Glenn based on the order they came out and where I think they were all sat in the van. I think the pov character was near the back, fairly upright and fairly central weren't they? There was definitely some one lower than them, slightly in front to their left (darryl?)

I think Hmm Grin

I'll be rewatching it tonight with DH, so I'll take a closer look at the POV bits and the direction negan speaks when talking about feeding Rick Carl's eye, because I'm not sure that Glenn is in the right place. In fact are any of the POV characters in the right place? (To the right of the dead person?)

AndYourBirdCanSing · 05/04/2016 15:11

Completely agree they should have shown who it was. This is going to obviously going to die down- it would have had a far bigger impact to know now rather than wait until October.

There was SO much build up to this Confused

Really bloody stupid in my opinion. Which actually leads me to think it might not have been a primary character after all- I thought it would have to be to gain maximum impact but the fact they didn't even show who it was? I'm not so sure now.

dalek · 05/04/2016 15:22

Do you think it's possible that the writers/producers haven't actually decided themselves who it is going to be and they will shoot two or three versions? Then, if there are pictures of actors on the internet we still won't know.

Also, it gives the producers a chance to gauge audience reactions and respond with an appropriate death.

Also, I think Morgan will save the day - he will turn up, flip Lucille out of Negan's hands with his stick of death and allow the others to get away. After that there will be all out war between the Alexandrians/Hilltop/Stormtroopers with no name and the Saviours

dalek · 05/04/2016 15:23

Can I have a job as a writer on Walking Dead please?

redhat · 05/04/2016 15:27

None of the talk about it being a much loved character makes sense unless its one of the main guys.

Daryl or Glenn. Daryl has been talking in the media about he direction his character might take - but of course that could be a double bluff...
