Every evening i go to watch something and i browse for ages to see if anything looks good. Click on a few things and am turning them off within minutes. I then fall back on tried and tested sitcoms ive watched a million times just to wind down enough to go to sleep. I want to watch something brilliant that i havent seen before. Either film or series.

Things ive watched and loved:
Homeland (the earlier seasons, not so much the later ones)
Breaking bad
Peaky blinders
Daredevil
Anything with tom hardy (apart from locke)
Big bang theory
That 70's show
Only fools and horses
Fawlty towers

Things i havent enjoyed
Locke
Luther
Testament of youth
Silk
How to get away with murder
Fringe
24

(Not exhaustive lists)

I tend not to like sci fi stuff. I started watching orphan black but was underwhelmed. (Had heard great things on MN) i know i am very picky but there must be something i've yet to see and love.

Oh I watched all of Homeland. But i found the last two seasons very lazy. Not sure how else to describe it but i do think there was a definite point at which HL should have ended as there seemed to be a lack of focal point after that. It felt very much like there had been a change in the writing/writers and that they either didnt have a definite idea of where to take it or just raced through it to get it done if that makes sense.

Ive watched oitnb and looking forward to june for the next season.

Reign, i started and couldnt believe how ridiculously bad it was Grin

The Good Wife

Or for a darker version... Scandal

RudeElf · 27/03/2016 20:52

I started sons of anarchy but i found it quite cringey in how clichéd it was so didnt persevere beyond episode one. Maybe i am too impatient Blush

Jessica Jones is amazing as is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmit

RudeElf · 27/03/2016 20:52

Btw thanks for all these suggestions, theyre all going on my list to work through.

Jessica jones is awesome. David Tenant is incredible in it

RomComPhooey · 27/03/2016 21:00

I was coming on to recommend Jessica Jones, but see others have beaten me to it.

I love The Good Wife but find Scandal really irritating, especially the more recent series.

I watched a really quirky but ultimately warm & pleasing Cameron Crowe film called 'Hawaii' on Netflix recently. I had to watch it a second time once I'd got over a raging fever to see if it was as offbeat and 'out there' as I'd remembered. It was, but in a good way. The main leads are Bradley Cooper and Emma Stone, but there's a classic Bill Murray turn in it as a morally bankrupt billionaire.

Queenbean · 27/03/2016 21:00

I hated Kimmy Schmidt, didn't find it unfunny at all!

OP why didn't you like how to get away with murder?

Savagebeauty · 27/03/2016 21:01

I'm watching Wolf of wall Street for the second time. Very funny.

moomin11 · 27/03/2016 21:01

House of Cards is brilliant.

RudeElf · 27/03/2016 21:12

Wolf of wall street was fantastic, i have watched it few times too.

Wrt how to get away with murder. I didnt 'buy' the lecturer. Not sure if i could pinpoint it but there was just something that didnt work about her. For me anyway.

House of cards, another one i started and gave up on. I didnt like the way he addressed the camera. Possibly not helped by having a boyfriend at the time who raved about it constantly. Might try that one again when i'm less irritated by the memory of the ex Grin

OP posts:
RomComPhooey · 27/03/2016 21:21

We started House of Cards recently. It is very good but Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright Penn are deeply unlikeable characters. I'm persevering but I'm not sure I'll stay the course.

MrsLettuce · 27/03/2016 21:26

I watched Iris the other night, that was great. Here. Also What Happened, Miss Simone. Here.

Am stuck for series ATM too though.

CoteDAzur · 27/03/2016 21:29

Series I enjoyed:

True Detective (Season 1)
Banshee
The Blacklist
Scandal
House of Cards
The Americans

busyboysmum · 27/03/2016 21:32

Watch Fargo. Stick with it. We loved it.

Queenbean · 27/03/2016 21:33

I have just started Suits and its good so far

The BEST thing is finding a series you like and then discovering that there is a healthy 16-18 episodes per season and 4/5/6 whole seasons to watch. Praise!

Callmejudith · 27/03/2016 21:35

Fargo is amazing

Fugghetaboutit · 27/03/2016 21:36

Does it have to be series?

Trophy Kids was excellent
West of Memphis
Making a Murderer
Narcos

Yes to this!

I watched the first season of fargo and found it slow tbh. Wasnt really intrigued about the second season.

Will add suits to the list.

RudeElf · 27/03/2016 21:37

No, it doesnt have to be a series, one offs are good too.

OP posts:
WifOfBif · 27/03/2016 21:38

Orange is the new black
Making a murderer
House of cards

AppleYumYum · 27/03/2016 21:48

Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
Rake (so funny!)
Brooklyn Nine Nine

MrsBertMacklin · 27/03/2016 21:54

Thanks to people recommending What We Do In The Shadows, wonderful film.

twentiethcenturybitch · 27/03/2016 22:05

As mentioned already:
The Bridge
The Good Wife
The Americans
House of Cards (do persevere - the 'to camera' stuff does stop being weird pretty quickly and it's brilliant!)

RomComPhooey · 28/03/2016 00:53

Just watched What We Do in the Shadows - most entertaining. It was good seeing Murray from Flight of the Conchords in alpha mode. Grin
