I do think it is guilt - he can't put it right. He feels to blame. But he didn't know, no one did. He just wants to make it go away. Who wouldn't?

There seem to be many different names for Distival/Thalidomide, coukd make the link trikier to pick up.

I think the turners are panicking out of guilt and shame, not self interest. You would feel responsible wouldn't you?
