anyone watching?

love programmes like these

1- the 50's

A family gives up their 21st-century technology and travels back in time. As they enter the 50s, it's goodbye to the flat-screen TV and hello to a piano and some darning.

Agree about church I don't do football but if had been part of the experience would have sat there for hour and day dreamed. She didn't have to sing or say prayers of felt uncomfortable.

pizzaeatingmonkey · 07/02/2016 12:32

My mother worked all through the 50s, stopping for 6 weeks when she had me and then I went to the factory nursery whilst she went back to work in the canteen!

Traged · 07/02/2016 12:36

I loved this too much to be critical but yes, women in my family worked.
I then watched all 5 of 'Back in time for dinner' on YouTube.

My family were about 15 years behind the trends.

Is there anything else similar on YouTube?

Traged · 07/02/2016 12:38

I loved the mother on the old one. She reminds me of an actress. Not Wendy Craig but someone like that.

Traged · 07/02/2016 12:39

In emergencies we used to play in a cupboard with a cloth rather than a cupboard door under a desk in reception. As in that sitcom name of which I've forgotten.

diddl · 07/02/2016 12:57

"I loved the mother on the old one."

Yes, me too!

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/02/2016 15:49

i want to know where the dad went all day

he was a cm so worked from home/did all cooking but obv didnt for the weeks while this was filmed

they saw him strolling to work and leaving mum at home

so where did he go for 10hrs+ a day Grin

The family are fairly unlikeable, for some reason. The mum was an ignorant cow for walking out of the church. Didn't she understand that they were supposed to be experiencing life as it would have been back then, not cherry picking the interesting bits? Confused

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/02/2016 16:16

agree the walking out of the church made her look very silly

thats the whole point of the experiment

sure she could have sat there for 30/60 mins Hmm

Maybe the producers encouraged her to leave? It wouldn't be unheard of.

Traged · 07/02/2016 17:58

Diddl
Do you know the actress I am thinking of? Not Anne Reid, but like her.

diddl · 07/02/2016 20:14

No, sorry, I don't.

BumpAndGrind · 07/02/2016 23:29

Was the sitcom The Brittas Empire?

Traged · 07/02/2016 23:31

Yes! We had to play under the reception desk, very quietly. All the staff knew we were there but none of the patients.

Davros · 07/02/2016 23:49

Hannah Gordon?

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/02/2016 00:02

Loved brittas empire

Didn't she have 3 children in the drawer. Twins and another one

Rebecca Front!

tobee · 08/02/2016 13:16

Harriet Thorpe

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 09/02/2016 13:45

I was really looking forward to this series (loved Back In Time For Dinner) but the 2 women ruined it for me (I liked the father and son)

The moaning about being stuck in the house and having no freedom was ridiculous enough, but the mother flouncing out of church was unforgivable, I was horrified at her rudeness. You'd think they'd been forced to participate in the show, rather than applied, auditioned, then been given a great opportunity. Confused

5Foot5 · 09/02/2016 13:55

I quite like the Dad and the son. Got a bit irritated with the daughter though who didn't have the patience to learn how to do something difficult, just wanted to be perfect at something NOW. Hm. Wonder what her hobbies are IRL? Bet she doesn't play an instrument or participate in a sport. Wonder how she will get on in her future career with that attitude.

absolutelynotfabulous · 09/02/2016 14:21

Well, that daughter won't be playing the piano, will sheGrin. I was a bit Shock at the piano destruction.

I couldn't help being amused at the mother's attempt at putting the ironing board up.

I think having a mild dislike of the family makes things more interesting....I'm childishly anticipating the next tantrum here...Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/02/2016 15:22

ceeveebee · 09/02/2016 20:50

Watching it a few minutes behind. Can't believe that they have to show the kids how to use a telephone box! Making me feel old and I wasn't even alive in the 60s

madmother1 · 09/02/2016 20:54

Loving it tonight. They even have the wooden deer ornaments that my parents had. Also, my Dad took put the chimney breasts out and boarded up the doors. I can't wait until the 70's next week !
