Anyone else put it on series record?

DH said, "You can tell it's January when deluded escapism is back on!"

I love it, but have no intention of ever moving to Oz.

Ooh we're in Queensland. Makes a nice change from the usual Perth/Adelaide.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 02/02/2016 15:10

I enjoyed today's programme really, nice people who seemed to consider thing thoroughly. It's hard when the family are already split though and I did like the more humorous element of the family and friends chat, well, until her mother was so heartbroken, that was very tough to watch.

JassyRadlett · 02/02/2016 15:27

I really liked the episode - it feels like they know what they're getting into. (And I'm a Queenslander so was cheering them on from the moment I saw the airport!)

LarrytheCucumber · 02/02/2016 17:41

Ooh must watch on i player. I like Queensland. I rarely manage to watch it now it is on later in the morning Sad.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 04/02/2016 12:15

Just started watching today's.

Oh.My.Fucking.God

Alohamora · 04/02/2016 13:09

Just starting watching today's too. OMFG is right Shock

exLtEveDallas · 04/02/2016 14:22

Aww bollocks, I missed it today - what happened?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 04/02/2016 14:48

I had to come out of lurking on this thread to post. What a pair of horrors.

That woman is going to go to Australia and then be on anti-depressants because she misses her parents so much. Rather than move, she needs to look at why she has such extreme emotional reactions to live events

Alohamora · 04/02/2016 14:51

The woman of the couple was quite...emotional. She cried as she told us her parents had split up, she cried as she told us her sister had moved to Oz already and she positively howled at the end.

The pair of them had successful careers as pub singers! He has a son from a previous relationship (16yo) who doesn't want his dad to go.

Read the FB page and they're going as she's going to study. He's looking up agents to see if he can get any gigs.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 04/02/2016 14:57

The agents better be tone deaf.....Grin

Alohamora · 04/02/2016 15:12
Grin
EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/02/2016 15:40

Eve they have two children, a boy and girl and live in a house they bought in Grimsby for £81,000. I think both of them currently work two or three nights a week only and their mortgage is something around mid three hundred pounds a month.

In Australia though, they wanted a detached house with pool within a rental budget of £1,300 per month.

He has a teenage son here who he helps with his future career in boxing, she is the one who desperately wants to emigrate. The son said he really didn't want his father to leave.

They were looking on the East Coast, but her sister currently lives in Tasmania. I think Nicky said if they emigrate, the sister would relocate to be near them though.

That's the bones of it but we did get to see them try out at potential jobs in Australia.

LarrytheCucumber · 04/02/2016 16:18

I can see why they don't want to go to Tasmania - freezing cold winters and probably not much of a centre for nightlife, but it is still a long, long way from the sister. We didn't hear from her, did we?
And who is the main visa applicant? Surely there isn't a shortage of nightclub singers in Australia.

exLtEveDallas · 04/02/2016 17:07

Wow. Thank you. That really does sound like an Oh My God episode!

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 04/02/2016 17:13

We didn't hear from the sister about her situation or why she was in Tasmania and willing to relocate.

She was going to be the main Visa applicant going on a student Visa, but I didn't catch what she was studying. Her work try out was as a cabaret singer at a Dracula themed theatre restaurant venue.

They'd met in Spain I think where she'd worked as a Madonna tribute act and he was in a Westlife tribute band.

JassyRadlett · 04/02/2016 18:25

DH is out tonight. I know what I'm watching.

228agreenend · 04/02/2016 21:15

Wow, will have to record today's programme when it is repeated tomorrow at 9am.

Did anyone watch yesterday's programme? I watched the first part today at 9am on BBC2 today (presume it was yesterday's show).. I did feel sorry for the 15 year old who was torn between Australia with mum and step dad, and leaving dad behind.

You can imagine a mumsnet post from stepdad. Ex-wife and her partner (and their children) are planning to take mine and ex-w 15 year old son to Australia. He feels torn between the two families and I feel too much pressure is being put on him to make a decesion and to keep everyone happy. Ainu in not wanting him to go, but I don't want to put added pressure on ds either.

RebootYourEngine · 04/02/2016 21:34

I didnt catch the bit about the sister so i spent the programme wondering where she was.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 05/02/2016 11:40

Reboot, the sister was the massive pull towards Australia and the reason that they went over in the first place, but she was only referred to, never seen.

Today my TV guide says New Series(9) Episode 1, but it's a catch up. Half an hour has been the first programme repeated and only the last 12-15 minutes bringing us up to date.

PurpleHairAndPearls · 05/02/2016 11:46

Today's was lovely, I hadn't seen the original and they definitely deserved their happiness. I won't say any more in case people haven't watched it yet Wink

KathyBeale · 05/02/2016 20:54

Just watching yesterday's. Am already offended by the sticker in their kitchen with the misplaced apostrophe. They don't deserve a new life in Australia if they can't use punctuation correctly.

MackerelOfFact · 05/02/2016 21:30

Just finished watching the howling woman episode, WTF! I was hoping at the start that the couple would split up so the DH wouldn't have to abandon his DS in the UK so she could live nearer her sister. Never mind the fact that she's dragging her own DCs and DSS away from their own siblings/parents!

Not entirely sure how they're expecting to be able to afford £1,400pcm rent on the salary of two part-time club singers following the sale of their £100k house in Grimsby either.

The mind boggles. I was transfixed by the 'auditions' but not in a good way.

Oldraver · 08/02/2016 11:14

Today's woman is a twat

Pegglebot · 08/02/2016 11:38

Wow, this is a depressing episode. I really can't see why they went...

gingerboy1912 · 08/02/2016 12:22

Just watched the last 15 mins of today's episode with Claire Sweeney the Hoe family. Glad they went but the mum was a bit high maintenance wasn't she!
