I presumed that the judges had voted her out because she'd asked to voted out if she was in the dance off once more, ie she wasn't enjoying it and it was to save her sensitivities and release her so she didn't have to 'resign' with a family or personal issue.
It only after reading on her about her comments on itt that I realised she was cross with the outcome.

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2015 11:54

That's a cynical thought SoupDragon Grin but I know what you mean. The consistent over marking of NPA by the judges annoys me but he was at the bottom of TLB, the public hadn't actually saved him. Grin

KurriKurri · 27/11/2015 13:34

I think the judges vote + public vote combo is a good one, the problem is that the judges have two bites of the cherry. As far as I'm concerned they've had their say in the initial vote, then the public get to vote and that should be it (IIRC it used to be like this - and yes you did sometimes get shock exits.)

The element of popularity contest would still be tempered by the leaderboard placings, but it would get rid of all this 'is it a fix' judges making mistakes stuff which is really very tiresome and detracts from the enjoyment IMO. (I admit to being as much of a 'fix' merchant as anyone - but I wish the opportunity for doubt wasn't there)

It's quite insulting really, the public do have favourites obviously but I also think they are perfectly capable of spotting a good dancer. And generally although some of the comedy turns probably stay in a bit longer than they should, by about half way through it is good dancers left and setting aside the Christopher Parker debacle. on the whole it is always good dancers in the final.

And since it is all good dancers left at the end I don't see why the public shouldn't be able to pick their 'favourite' good dancer to be in the semis and finals, instead of who the judges think we should have. If they hate someone and think they are crap - give them a score of 2 and state your reasons, then shut up.

Personally my favourite is Jay, I would be sad to see him miss out on the final because I think he deserves a place but I can equally see that any of Anita, Helen, Kellie, Georgia would be worthy finalists and put on a very good show if they are the ones to get through, and I enjoy watching them because I love watching dancing- and surely that's the same for most people who watch - we want to see the best dancers too - we can be trusted !

ppeatfruit · 27/11/2015 13:38

Yes I agree KurriKurri. Totally Grin

Clawdy · 27/11/2015 13:49

I agree too Kurri ,well said.

GruntledOne · 27/11/2015 14:50

They did try not having a dance off for a couple of series, and it wasn't popular. It made the ending really quite flat, and it also meant that you could have a situation where a totally crap dancer would keep pushing the good ones out because s/he was getting a lot of publicity and therefore getting votes; also, I think, some people voted for bad dancers to try to mess up the system. That was why we were subjected to the horror of Ann Widdecombe for so long. I think having a dance off is preferable, provided the judges do their job properly.

In that connection, I thought it was daft that Len kept saying that it was just a matter of opinion, no-one's opinion was necessarily more valid than anyone else's. My reaction was that I thought the whole point was that the judges were supposed to be experts, therefore their opinions really cannot be as arbitrary as he made out and ought to be reliable and consistent.

He also kept going on about how there were only two points between Jamelia and PA. I don't think that's valid. In essence the results meant that two judges who had previously decided that PA was worse than Jamelia both decided that he was better - i.e. that in effect he had jumped at least two points for each of them (I don't think anyone was suggesting that her dance was any worse second time round); and one who had thought he was the same also thought he had jumped at least one point. So that's a difference of at least 5 points.

It was also noticeable that Len avoided any comment on the fact that Darcey looked so distressed and embarrassed.

GruntledOne · 27/11/2015 15:01

I wonder if Katie's going to be in it this weekend? - www.standard.co.uk/stayingin/strictly-come-dancing-2015-katie-derham-smashes-heel-during-training-a3124896.html

GruntledOne · 27/11/2015 15:02

Cancel that, I've just read the bit where it says she will. Blush

Tensmumym · 27/11/2015 15:03

I agree Gruntled. As you say, he kept saying there were only a few points in it - only because the judges overmarked Peter to start with. Zoe should have asked him how he could justify giving Peter an 8 for a dance Peter himself admitted was his worst and which he really struggled with.

emotionsecho · 27/11/2015 16:18

I agree with you Kurri I also think it should be all done and dusted on Saturday night.

At the very least I think the public should have the final say for the semi finals as well as the finals.

The useful idiots haven't actually been kept in for too long this series.

They've changed the way the points work to avoid the year of "You are all in the final" when there are couples tied on the leaderboard, so we won't have that debacle again so just leave it as a combined judge/public vote, lowest score is eliminated.

Queenbean · 27/11/2015 17:03

I totally disagree Kurri - the public can't be trusted to vote poor dancers out, look at old Jeremy Vine staying in beyond his time

And Gaby Logan was kicked out weeks before she should have. The public often votes for most entertaining, not best dancer

AnyoneButAndre · 27/11/2015 17:15

Nothing terrible happened in the seasons without a dance off. Apart from Darren Gough, but that wasn't anything a dance off could have fixed.

Lol at the poster still holding a torch for Aled(wozrobbed). Monkseal's response to people saying "yes Jamelia shouldn't have gone, but it's happened now: move on" was "I'm still sulking about Gough's win so good luck with that" and your loyalty to the Welsh samba King is another case in point.

KurriKurri · 27/11/2015 17:33

I don't think I shall ever get over Aled. And it took me a while to cope with Austin Healey's exit Grin Over invested, me???

AnyoneButAndre · 27/11/2015 17:34

I still can't begin to process Dummygate and the triumph of the Dancing Wardrobe. Just too too awful to think about.

emotionsecho · 27/11/2015 17:38

Queen Gabby Logan lost out in a dance off against Rod Stewart's current wife (sorry, can't remember her name). Funnily enough Rod was in the audience at the time and if memory serves me correctly she went out the very next week.

Maybe Gabby Logan shouldn't have been in the dance off and her husband should have but Gabby was by no means the best dancer on the show that year and definitely not a potential winner.

I find the keeping in of the Anne Widdecombes, etc., longer than they should be incredibly annoying but then I don't think they should put such complete duffers in the show in the first place, there should be a minimum standard of competence. There is only one occasion when one complete duffer got to the final and that was series 1 and I think that was because it was the first series and all 'new' to the public. The duffers are usually all weeded out by Blackpool (this series none of them got that far) once the Great British Public has ensured they have made enough of a fool of themselves.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2015 18:17

Tennis. Angry

DansonslaCapucine · 27/11/2015 18:21

Can I ask - has IIT been cancelled or delayed? IPlayer is just saying it's not available and that tennis is on bbc2 right now.

Sparklingbrook · 27/11/2015 18:22

Delayed til the tennis has finished.

DansonslaCapucine · 27/11/2015 18:35

Well, when the hell will that be? I'm filling advent calendars with Lego mini-figures and need something to watch.

AnyoneButAndre · 27/11/2015 18:38

Timetable currently has ITT booked between 6:40 and 7pm. Twenty sodding minutes. And then finished to make room for antiques frigging road trip!

KurriKurri · 27/11/2015 18:38

The match is over but they are now interviewing everyone and his dog.

DansonslaCapucine · 27/11/2015 18:45

It's on!

AnyoneButAndre · 27/11/2015 18:45

Now looks like they're going to do the full show. Still sulking though.

Minimammoth · 27/11/2015 18:50

Anton always reminds me of Grommit. ( I may have said before). But he looks especially Grommity tonight.

MrsJamin · 27/11/2015 19:26

Ooh jay's tango looks amazing! (ITT)
