A new 5-part thriller is starting on BBC 2, 9th November at 9pm

A romance between an MI6 code genius and an ordinary man promises happiness. But tragedy strikes when the spy dies in suspicious circumstances, forcing his lover to pursue the truth behind his death.

Have a look at the trailers and write-ups and see if you fancy watching it and joining in this MN thread.

''You might be the most innocent person I know'' - This is a clip from episode 1: On a walk by the sea, Danny flirtatiously questions whether Alex did background checks on him before going on their date.

As much as I enjoyed last week's episode with Alex's surreal family, I hope it speeds up today and starts answering some questions. Most important of all, is Alex still alive?!

JustCallMeDory · 23/11/2015 09:45

For once, I'm hoping that it's not all tied up - I'd really like a second series.

12 hours and counting.

OnlyLovers · 23/11/2015 10:19

I'd love a second series too!

I've a feeling it's designed to be a one-off though. Don't know why; gut feeling, or just pessimism perhaps Grin.

Plus I think Ben is probably in great demand now, so I don't know if they'd be able to get him to commit to another one.

notafan, I quite envy you'; you'll be able to binge-watch it when you get back!

JustCallMeDory · 23/11/2015 10:27

No, I agree Only - it definitely has a feel of a one-off, and I doubt the ratings will be huge enough (I'll check) to override that.

notafanofwinter · 23/11/2015 10:32

Gosh, definitely no to a second series.
Danny will rescue Alex from wherever he's been taken I can't believe it was his body, assisted by Scottie and they'll all live happily ever after.

JustCallMeDory · 23/11/2015 10:36

Nope, it dropped 800,000 on last week. What's wrong with those people?

notafanofwinter · 23/11/2015 10:48

Is that low Just?

SheHasAWildHeart · 23/11/2015 11:06

I think it's a one-off too, tied to the 'spy in the suitcase' RL story so there really wouldn't be a need for another series. Also I can't see Ben W committing to a second series.
What time is it on? I watch it back on catch up and only knew about it because of an article in the Guardian. Haven't seen it advertised anywhere else so I wonder if people know about it.

9pm BBC2 tonight. Can't wait!

Gruach · 23/11/2015 11:17

Perhaps we are the only watchers?

notafanofwinter · 23/11/2015 11:18

Has anyone else been banging on about it in RL? My 80 yr old PIL are now on watching. They usually prefer Gardening programmes Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/11/2015 11:21

It was quite heavily trailed on the BBC. Probably too grown up for the mass audience.

JustCallMeDory · 23/11/2015 11:49

Grin maybe we are.

Episode 1 had 2.5m which is good for BBC2. They'd probably expect a drop, but not that much of a drop to episode 2. On the other hand, it's a series lots of people will watch online - and the figures I looked at were just the broadcast overnights.

SheHasAWildHeart · 23/11/2015 11:51

I remember that the only two articles that I saw about it where at pains to repeatedly emphasise it was not a gay love story - maybe that was as a reaction to viewer numbers?

SheHasAWildHeart · 23/11/2015 11:52

It does appear (I think) in the top 10 most popular programmes on BBC iPlayer list - so maybe it is more for watching later online?

OnlyLovers · 23/11/2015 12:32

I think –hope –it's getting word of mouth and people are watching it on catch-up.

I haven't talked to anyone apart from DP, who I'm watching it with, in RL. I don't watch much live telly but have seen it being trailed a few times; but maybe it hasn't been publicised that much? Although it did get a feature in the Guardian Guide recently, and I've seen a few small interviews with Ben W and the writer too.

MitzyLeFrouf · 23/11/2015 15:56

The BBC is useless at promoting its own shows.

SoupDragon · 23/11/2015 16:17

I suspect the gay sex scene would have put some viewers off watching past the first episode.

sadwidow28 · 23/11/2015 21:00

I'm here! I have poured Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine (Chardonnay) - help yourselves.

Also, little tray of nibbles in the middle of the table (nuts, olives, crisps) - enjoy!

Did anyone bring Chocolate ?

Iplayer had better be prompt tonight.

And there has been too much spoilering in newspapers online. Angry

notafanofwinter · 23/11/2015 21:59

I'm confused and bewildered. Anyone smart around to explain?

sadwidow28 · 23/11/2015 22:02

I found that quite a slow episode. Perhaps it's just me......

sadwidow28 · 23/11/2015 22:02

notafan what is puzzling you? I think I followed it.

OP posts:
notafanofwinter · 23/11/2015 22:05

That he was set up because of something Alex found? Why not just kill Alex and hide the body? Why infect Danny?
Why were Scotty's Club mates closing rank?

I'm feeling very dim.

scratchandsniff · 23/11/2015 22:07

Sadly I suspect you're right Soup. It's the kind of thing my parents who are in their 70s would turn over in disgust.

I'm really enjoying it. Juse what had Alex discovered? Did he plan on getting Danny involved? So many questions. ......
