A new 5-part thriller is starting on BBC 2, 9th November at 9pm

A romance between an MI6 code genius and an ordinary man promises happiness. But tragedy strikes when the spy dies in suspicious circumstances, forcing his lover to pursue the truth behind his death.

Have a look at the trailers and write-ups and see if you fancy watching it and joining in this MN thread.

''You might be the most innocent person I know'' - This is a clip from episode 1: On a walk by the sea, Danny flirtatiously questions whether Alex did background checks on him before going on their date.

Alex being alive would give his mother reason to lie to put Danny off the scent, especially if she was the one who (mis)identified the body in the suitcase. [Is entirely in denial about Danny and Alex possibly not living happily ever after]

OnlyLovers · 18/11/2015 15:22

Yes, true.

I DO hope he's alive. I just don't think I can believe it.

SheHasAWildHeart · 18/11/2015 15:29

I want him to be alive.

But as he was a spy, won't they have fingerprints, DNA etc on record so they could identify his body anyway? I wonder if he had a proper funeral? And if it isn't him who is it? Who does the stuff in the attic belong to?

And on a random aside, what was Alex's parents house like?!? Yes cold and lonely but amazing at the same time. I was a bit annoyed that the dad started gobbling his food before Danny or the mum had even been served, what a rude man!

Gruach · 18/11/2015 15:34

Well there'd be no fingerprints left on that conveniently melted corpse. And as it was Alex's flat I daresay anyone going to such lengths to deceive could have drenched the thing in Alex's DNA. (It's not my area of expertise though!)

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/11/2015 17:41

Who does the stuff in the attic belong to? MI6, I'd say!

Alex's dad had to do something to make it just about credible that he never spoke. Not once. Presumably the budget wouldn't stretch that far.

NotCitrus · 19/11/2015 09:29

I'm not convinced that was Alex's real dad. Also, was the housekeeper who cried over the sink at the end the same woman who'd pretended to be Alex's mother earlier?

Wondering what happened when Scottie broke his promise of celibacy after 11 years.

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/11/2015 11:26

was the housekeeper who cried over the sink at the end the same woman who'd pretended to be Alex's mother earlier?
Yes it was. I think she loved Alex like a mother.

notafanofwinter · 19/11/2015 12:02

Just checking in, very confused.

Why the fake parents thing?
Who sent Danny the apartment keys?
Who was the guy with the sweets and what was the pill?
I'm hoping Scottie is really Danny's mentor & friend but the scene where they met in the bar with the singer was most odd. I think they knew each other.

Despite my bewilderment I'm loving the show.

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/11/2015 12:51

Why the fake parents thing?
Alex's real parents didn't want Danny to see where they lived, she thought once he saw how rich they were he'd try to blackmail them. I think the fake parents must have told her that he was genuine. Although why Alex's mum couldn't have just met in him a restaurant I don't know.

Who sent Danny the apartment keys?
It seems that there are two groups of people - one who helped Danny to find the attic, and another group who is telling him to stay away.

eddiemairswife · 19/11/2015 13:22

The woman who was crying at the sink is in the cast list as Mrs. Turner/Nanny, so she was probably closer to Alex than his mother.

OnlyLovers · 19/11/2015 13:28

Although why Alex's mum couldn't have just met in him a restaurant I don't know.

She didn't strike me as the type who'd put herself out for anyone. Grin

I think the cook IS Alex's real mother but was brought up as Charlotte Rampling and the posh bloke's.

I have a small theory that the posh bloke IS his father and he created a scandal by shagging the cook and producing Alex. Charlotte R's character has been making all their lives a misery ever since.

JustCallMeDory · 19/11/2015 13:29

I'd assumed that Alex sent Danny the keys before he died/was disappeared as a kind of insurance.

He knew something was up, hence the meaning full 'I need to change the battery in my laptop' scene.

I'm stating here and now, for the record, that I am fully aware that I've stepped over a line and I'm now over-involved in this series Smile

JustCallMeDory · 19/11/2015 13:31

Oooh now that's a theory, Only, but I'm not so sure.

JustCallMeDory · 19/11/2015 13:32

^ meaningful not meaning full !

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/11/2015 13:58

I'm now over-involved in this series
I understand the feeling. I love shows like this, which only have a handful of characters and are slow-burners rather than lots of action and characters and explosions. The magic is in the silences and what isn't actually said. I wonder how many episodes there are?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/11/2015 14:00

Five.

MitzyLeFrouf · 19/11/2015 14:03

They'll need to start amping up the perilous situations next week.

SheHasAWildHeart · 19/11/2015 15:00

Thank you Gasp.

MotherofFlagons · 20/11/2015 21:40

Checking in. Just watched the first two episodes.

Hugely enjoyed it!

JustCallMeDory · 20/11/2015 22:11

Welcome to the home of the over-invested, Mother.

notafanofwinter · 21/11/2015 09:43

Another ones who's totally over invested. I'm going away in a fortnight to somewhere without wifi and I've been googling as to how I can possibly watch Grin

sadwidow28 · 21/11/2015 15:30

I'll come clean as well:

"My name is SW and I am also over-invested."

Can I join in please? Watched the first two episodes on iPlayer this week. Loved them and am drumming my fingers impatiently for the next one. Can't wait. It's gripping stuff.

I don't watch much tv but this has me completely hooked, so much so that I broke my normal rule of waiting until a series is nearly over and watching the episodes all back to back.

Also want to watch Capital :)

JustCallMeDory · 21/11/2015 22:06

Welcome all. Two days and counting...

Gruach · 22/11/2015 23:37

It's nearly tomorrow!
