who's watching?

I'm sad that we won't have Nick this time. And I hope Baggsy gets a tribute of some sort.

I read that news link regarding Selina - thanks for that. It is, in fact, the 2nd negative article she has given (I posted a link to the other one about 2 weeks ago). She has said that The Apprentice has put her in danger because her business is based in Dubai. Now that the show has outed her as a former pole-dancer she could be asked to leave the country or even be jailed.

I guess she doesn't win then Grin

I was actually sorry to see Ruth leave - but she DID deserve it. They were quite right in that she could hook the punters in, but couldn't close a sale.

Personally, I thought it should have been a double-eviction ..... but I said that last week as well.

SconeForAStroll · 30/10/2015 15:57

PO = Professionally offended.

I do get that JD is deadpan. I've watched him for donkey's years. I am not sure if it is just because his material is so weak on You're Fired, but rudeness can only be ironic if it doesn't actually make the person to whom it is addressed feel attacked.

Every week so far he has made some lame remark about Romesh (almost as if he wants him to play the Alan Davies role from QI). Meanwhile Romesh has been incisive, intelligent and witty, and all far more off the cuff.

Now I have that off my chest, I really liked the leader of the balloon team. And I hate The Smirker.

Roussette · 30/10/2015 18:04

I don't dislike JD but I have never ever found him funny and I think he just doesn't have it like Dara did.

sadwidow28 · 30/10/2015 19:08

I only came across Dara via "You've been Fired" and I thought he had the right mix of serious and mickey-taking.

I don't watch JD as I find his pan-faced humour insulting and offensive. I don't believe that scathing comments should be accepted as 'humour'.

GruntledOne · 30/10/2015 19:15

I don't think the show outed Selina as a pole dancer - in fact she was terribly careful to describe herself as a podium dancer and no-one on The Apprentice said anything different. In essence she outed herself. She doesn't seem to have either left or been chucked out of Dubai so far, so I suspect the reality is she was never in danger. I get the feeling she was in it for the publicity.

eddiemairswife · 30/10/2015 19:55

I think she was fired, and is trying to garner publicity in order to be a Daily Mail Celebrity! What is the difference between a pole-dancer and a podium-dancer apart from the pole/podium? Is one more sleazy than the other?

regenerationfez · 30/10/2015 19:59

I got exactly the same feeling with Selina. She didn't really want to win, just wanted to go on the telly in the hope she could launch a 3rd rate reality TV career a la Hatie Katie.

sadwidow28 · 31/10/2015 01:15

I didn't understand the difference between a Pole Dancer, Podium Dancer and Exotic Dancer.

Anyway, I have found the article again:

'I hold the BBC ultimately responsible': Apprentice hopeful fears being jailed under Dubai's strict Islamic laws because she's been branded an 'exotic dancer' and I still remain confused.

Selina will have a career move .... and negative publicity for the programme - fears for her life - will be part of the planned way forward.

And NO! There is no room for another motor mouth like Katie Hopkins!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 31/10/2015 08:20

I just caught up with it last night. I'm sad to see Ruth go. Although I agree that in RL someone in sales not being able to sell would be a problem but . . . the Apprentice is now about building a business and they don't check the business plans first. I'm not sure this is the point to start considering sound business principles rather than entertainment value.
I liked both the team leaders this week. I was Shock when Cat tower team leader actually sold his first cat tower. I'm so used to candidates talking bs about their skills and then making excuses Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 01/11/2015 10:43

Selina was in the paper again today . Definitely wants publicity !

Haggisfish · 01/11/2015 12:07

I know. Tragic.

LineyReborn · 01/11/2015 12:21

I feel really conflicted about Selina if she is as psychologically brittle as I suspect she may be. This show is not going to be good for her.

Apologies if I've used all the wrong words up there. I'm finding it hard to express my discomfort. I guess I'm saying that it seems that the manipulator is in fact the one being manipulated by the media, and in that context her claims about the production process perhaps seem more understandable.

Her life in Dubai sounds fucking horrible, frankly.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 02/11/2015 06:06

Agree , it's possible she is being manipulated and is vulnerable .

BugritAndTidyup · 02/11/2015 19:42

Hmm, I only started watching last year, but it seems like there is a disappointing lack of entertaining fuckwittery this time round.

There have been mistakes (missing the lunchtime rush when the whole point is selling people their lunch), but they are for the most part boring mistakes. Where was the joy of watching Daniel and Felipe bicker for hours at the country show? This year they're all a bit... What's the word I'm looking for? Professional? That can't be right, surely?

And on another note I'm wishing it hadn't been fishcakes they made in the first episode? Can you imagine the delight if instead they'd made...

Wait for it...

....Waffles!

And meanwhile what the bloody fuck did ANY of that have to do with Samuel Johnson or dictionaries? Oh, he had a cat. Ri-ight. Battersea Dogs Home too much of a trek, I see.

BugritAndTidyup · 02/11/2015 19:48

Have just looked up the second story about Selina that I assume you were talking about. Sad bloody hell, was not expecting that.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 02/11/2015 20:13

I have just read the latest story about Selina. It's horrific. It was very brave of her to pursue it through the courts. I hate that the newspaper used 'allegedly' in relation to it. Two people were convicted. The role of the third person might be 'alleged' but it's completely inappropriate to use it in reference to the entire incident. It's made me very Angry on her behalf.

WestleyAndButtockUp · 02/11/2015 21:14

Links to these selina stories, please?

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 02/11/2015 22:03

If you google Selina Apprentice they come straight up.

CFSsucks · 03/11/2015 21:43

Wow, that is terrible. And amazing that they got convicted in a country like that!

On a cynical note, why is she coming out with all these stories? There have been quite a few about her in the last couple of weeks, nothing about the others. Part of me thinks she really wants the media attention (not saying what she is saying isn't true as it clearly is, plus the articles I read didn't say alleged). If she has anxiety issues etc, going on The Apprentice was possibly not her best move.

NathalieM · 04/11/2015 12:28

Just had a look at some of these news stories. Truly awful! I think it is very cynical to simply attribute the news to a hunger for media attention. Reading the article, it seems she's using the ordeal to educate and inform other, which is fine by me.

Regarding the anxiety. She willingly disclosed that she used to be a dance of some sort, allowing people to find and scrutinise her skimpy pictures. Strange for someone with anxiety.

Roussette · 04/11/2015 20:59

'Ere we go then. Anyone watching? Childrens books, I sense a disaster!

SkaterGrrrrl · 04/11/2015 21:00

Lady Brady!

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 04/11/2015 21:04

This is going to be shit. I predict rhymes that do not scan, and my foot through the screen...

Roussette · 04/11/2015 21:05

Sralan has just about forced Sam to become PM then!

BondJayneBond · 04/11/2015 21:08

Why is one of the candidates wearing giant mouse ears??
