who's watching?

I'm sad that we won't have Nick this time. And I hope Baggsy gets a tribute of some sort.

Did Vana speak a word of French in the task? That was her main reason for putting herself forward as PM.

JoelyB · 22/10/2015 00:46

They are all DIM.
The boys' PM just hated on Richard. Which was wholly unhelpful.
None of them showed a shred of common sense, yes they got the pooh free, but it's only £10 for 3 bags at a garden centre, sorted.
Mussels are in major supermarkets.
The lace was always a french job.
They are just stupid. It may be good telly but it's bad business!

emotionsecho · 22/10/2015 00:56

Was it the 'fishcakes must be made to the exact specification' man who was waffling on? Do you think he has any idea of how knobbish he comes across?

I don't know where they get these contestants from but you're right - bad business good TV and a nice payday for AS.

JoelyB · 22/10/2015 01:00

and there's a nasty Big Brother element creeping in. Too much house detail. Thought I spotted a brief shot of a 'couple' tonight. NO.

sadwidow28 · 22/10/2015 02:12

Peregrina I am so glad someone else recalled the cardboard skeleton from last year. Alan Sugar tore a strip off the men for that 'lateral thinking'. I didn't think the toy boat should have been accepted - particularly when they bought the smaller size (JUST UNDER spec size) for £10 but there was a larger toy boat size that would have met spec size requirements.

The cheese, lace, mussels and snails were always 'French products' (and possibly the Louise Phillipe mirror) although I regularly buy a net of mussels from my local fish market in the UK when they are in season. I get my L'escargot from Costco (12 on a tray). So I agree with Moin "Why oh why do they always go to restaurants?" I suspect that there is a bit of 'off camera action' going on. "Do you want to be on the telly?"

I wanted Vana to go this week to be honest. Why do women in the project leader role think it is okay to be nasty to team members?

Mind you, the men are being nasty to each other as well. They really don't like Richard (last week's team leader).

As for the gathering of manure - did anyone notice that the women's shoes were caught on camera, as well as shouts of "I have just got poo on my tights"? Alan Sugar even made a comment about Jimmy Choo becoming Jimmy Poo. But no camera shots of men's shoes.......no salacious comments about them being up to their ankles in manure.

I can't even begin to talk about how an element of 'Big Brother House' is creeping in: Ruth making a veggie juice drink; men playing video games. It is so stereotypical!

GruntledOne · 22/10/2015 08:43

If the boat was under the specified size then it certainly shouldn't have been accepted. What I don't understand is why the girls' team couldn't find anything cheaper seeing that they were beside the sea - IME virtually every lseaside town of any size has a few cheapo shops selling things like beach chairs, swimming towels, sun hats and dinghies.

I see why they don't go to supermarkets if they have to haggle, but I really can't understand why they didn't go straight to a fishmongers for the mussels and escargots. Going to a restaurant where the price will inevitably reflect what they would have charged on the menu is insane.

thunderbird69 · 22/10/2015 09:04

I'm sure on this task in a previous series the rule was that they weren't allowed to pay the initial price, even if they only got 1p cheaper. I don't remember that being mentioned last night, but was maybe one of the rules.

I imagine they are also limited by which businesses are willing to take part in the show. Although they always show them racing around and running into shops, I imagine the producers (or whoever is with them) have to go in first and explain what they are doing/ask for permission to film in their shop, set up the cameras etc.

Also, when the girls' team decided to go back to get the boat there was a very contrived shot of their car screeching to a halt, then a camera following the girls running to the shop and then when they entered the shop there was already a camera filming from behind the counter. So, what looked like a 30 second mad dash, probably took quite a while to set up. I think it is far more directed and planned than it appears. The scene with them all hanging out at the house - video games, reading, drunking green juice... was ridiculous

lorelei9 · 22/10/2015 10:18

oh I'm sure it's all directed and planned, of course

I know they film in a very short period as well and you could see April was dropping on her feet in yesterday's show - a lot of the stupid decisions that get made are from fatigue I think

re the boat, if a toy boat is allowed, then the paper skeleton should have been allowed Grin

what have people got against Selina, I quite like her. When she did the dead dog routine, I was thinking if her French was really good, she could have said "I'm one dead dog away from a country song" but maybe that's not mainstream humour....

OP posts:
thunderbird69 · 22/10/2015 10:28

The skeleton thing was just stupid - they shouldn't have had it rejected

With the boat - it was still a real inflatable boat, but if it was smaller than the spec then it should definitely have been rejected (as the cheese was)

I didn't think Selina's dead dog routine was that bad, it was clear that she was just 'being silly'.

G1veMeStrength · 22/10/2015 10:43

I thought the jokey French was ok... funny how the horror is over pretending the dog died never mind her mother and father eh!

thunderbird69 · 22/10/2015 10:49

Anyone else think David looks like Mark Heap?

And how much better does April look without the Aunt Flo?

squoosh · 22/10/2015 11:18

The boat thing has pissed me off. Suralan lost his shit last year with Felipe's skeleton and this year a kid's inflatable dingy is okay?

2PurpleCrocs · 22/10/2015 11:19

Elle reminds me of Nigella.

Do Karen and Claude have to travel in the black cars with the contestants (so they can listen in to the waffle) or do they get to travel seperately do you think?

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 22/10/2015 11:21

Alan Sugar really annoys me with his inconsistencies e.g. the skeleton and dinghy and how on some types of task a high turnover wins whereas we all know turnover doesn't necessarily mean profit. Same with go with your gut instinct, sometimes they should sometimes they shouldn't Confused

The mussels from restaurants was explained on You're Fired. It was set up so they were searching for them late on when the fishmongers had closed, so they were told restaurants were the only option to try.

It's just a highly contrived bit of fun really isn't it.

BondJayneBond · 22/10/2015 11:24

Maybe restaurants were the only place they could find mussels at the end of the day.

But didn't they get a list of all the items at the start of the day? Surely they could have decided as a team to get the mussels first thing, when fish markets would be more likely to be open and well stocked?

lorelei9 · 22/10/2015 11:28

re gut instinct, Ellie couldn't do anything with hers as she was having to do as she was told by Vana anyway...

but Sugar's inconsistencies are another reason I find the show so real.

lorelei9 · 22/10/2015 11:31

I actually disliked Vana at the start of yesterday's show but thought she was fair in her approach to people she took into the boardroom and also very fair in saying "hands up, all my fault". After that, it was common sense to choose the deputy and then the person who didn't get anything. She clearly had a couple of strong dislikes and didn't indulge them.

I think the woman with the short blonde hair seems very sulky and unprofessional - she was also like that last week - can't recall her name.

OP posts:
thunderbird69 · 22/10/2015 11:34

Not being allowed to get mussels until late in the day and being told to go to restaurants is crazy!
Especially if the rules don't apply equally to each group.
I think I was naive to have previously blamed the teams for some of the ridiculous things they get up to. They were probably told to go to the vegan restaurant in the fish episode too.

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 22/10/2015 11:42

Obviously it must be hard to come straight out and spill too many beans, but I really did get the impression that some of their stupid ideas aren't necessarily their own Hmm. Set up to fail it seems.

squoosh · 22/10/2015 11:45

Anyone else hear the Flash Harry music from St Trinians when you see the boys PM?

YES! That's all I could think of every time Joseph was on screen. The St Trinian's spiv!

I don't think jenny deserved to be fired, although things looked worse than they were because she didn't acquire any items. But she was dealt a bad hand by vana, why give her items which are easier to get in France and take items like manure away? It was most likely strategic on her part, because Jenny is very well spoken she;s always very polite and just too nice for her own good, vana took advantage of that and was really rude always cutting her off the phone?. Her end speech was epic lol, she would be super on those sky selling channels, and even pitching.

Vana should have been fired for all her faults she was a poor manager and she should have taken her own advice about not being a bitch, I used to like her.

Elle looks like Martine Mccutcheon just a different face shape she;s a likeable girl and she doesn't seem to be catty either. I don't know if shes a worthy candidate just yet early days.

I know hes popular but Joseph makes me cringe his body language and things he says didn't he say manly moist?, buzzing on that man in shampoo ad eugh.

natalie is the blonde girl with the bob cut, she could be a worthy candidate but she seems immature and stroppy maybe in a few years time?

Apprentice does feel like a set up looks like vana has been favoured from the start by all the judges, even when she does wrong she is saved for viewing figures perhaps a bit of drama. I doubt she will go all the way.

I like the hairdresser Charleine, I thought she was a spoilt sport for going on about not being pm last week but that's all forgotten now, she has the gift of speaking and bags of confidence, shes not immature either. She will fight her corner too if anyone attacks her.

GruntledOne · 22/10/2015 12:54

I think the girls need to be penalised for wearing stupid shoes. It's ridiculous doing a task where you may need to run or indeed just stand for long periods when you're teetering around on high heels.

BondJayneBond · 22/10/2015 13:11

Agree about the shoes.

Loads of the tasks seem to involve lots of running or standing around.

rumbelina · 22/10/2015 13:42

The skeleton was controversial because they had been asked for 'an anatomical skeleton' which is actually a thing. Whereas the boat was just listed as 'a boat' - and a toy dinghy is a boat.

SheHasAWildHeart · 22/10/2015 13:51

They needed a LOT of mussels. So why not go in one place buy half and then go to another place and buy half again? Unless that's not allowed.

And Vana needed to go simply because she doesn't know how to you the word "please".
