Following on from thread one.

OP posts:
Costacoffeeplease · 11/10/2015 14:54

Jay was brilliant, I hadn't really noticed him until last night

Anton makes a big thing about getting a decent dancer as a partner then wastes it with a nothing routine - plonker

I think ainsley and Kirsty must have seriously pissed off make up and wardrobe to have been made to stand around looking like that all night - hideous

I was glad to see giovanni getting told off - slimy, creepy little man

Peter's paso needed a lot more work, but the judges seem to be very lenient with him - I hate his Uriah hero-like response to criticism

I find daniel quite amusing really, in a perverse way, and he does seem to be enjoying himself

Costacoffeeplease · 11/10/2015 14:55

Uriah Heep FFS!

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 15:26

Thanks Tenysmum I agree with your conclusions btw!

I reckon Kelly's had dance training but 'forgot' to mention it Grin Though I have respect for her not falling for the over - botoxed look.

I enjoyed JV's attempt at Fred Astaire and like the way he enjoys himself too!

I noticed Jay was brilliant at his first waltz. THAT JIVE !!!!!!! bloody 'ell !! (I've never heard ALL the judges gushing sooo much ). He seems very sweet too.

Oh and Tess finally looked good last night! I liked Claud's trouser and top too!

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 15:30

I loved the pp who mentioned DOD's hairpiece (maybe hairweaving?) and that he didn't dare to touch it Grin yes to who said he isn't sexy! I agree 100%!! and yes he must have been botoxed he's a bit 'meh' IMO!

Tensmumym · 11/10/2015 15:53

Just caught up with some of ITT. When Jay and Aliona were on Zoe showed him the scores of other boyband contestants along with their pictures - Simon Webbe, Harry Judd and the guy from Westlife. Jay got the highest score but all he said was that he looked like the guy who would be waiting for their autographs:)

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 16:02

Yes I saw that one (over infested moi?) he's very unassuming. I think that's attractive. Giovanni is the opposite, did you see him making up to poor Zoe ? he deserved that bollocking telling off from Len IMO Grin hehehe!

Tensmumym · 11/10/2015 16:15

:) I didn't see Giovanni on ITT but from what I've seen on the main show he seems to be trying to be the new Vincent. I hope they get Marian Keyes on the Friday panel soon. This week's Monkseal.

Interesting info about the Orange One - branded a liar in court by a High Court judge. And Claudia said his parents were celebrating 60 years of marriage TODAY - and apparently they also celebrated 60 years of marriage back in September. Maybe they celebrate every month??

SoupDragon · 11/10/2015 17:07

I thought she just said "celebrating 60 years of marriage."

Anyway, its surely more likely it was just a mistake.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 17:16

Thanks for the link Tenysmum Soo funny especially the bit about Helen George being a Darcey stalker and crying into her small glass of waitrose white wine Grin Grin

Tensmumym · 11/10/2015 17:18

ppeatfruit He writes so well, doesn't he and often says just what I've been thinking, but in a funnier way:)

Tensmumym · 11/10/2015 17:22

I admit I gleefully seize on anything which shows the Orange One in a bad light. He comes across to me as insincere, talentless - where would he be without his marriage to Katie Price? I checked Blush and Claudia did say "today" referring to their anniversary. It's just the sort of stunt he would pull. I'm appalled to see that he has over 3 million followers on Twitter!!

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 17:23

Yes true he writes brilliantly , I agreed with his own criticism of himself , because I couldn't be arsed to read ALL of the first one!! To call Gleb's moustache pornesque was genius too!

RomComPhooey · 11/10/2015 17:25

I have a Grade 5 violin certificate in the loft from when I was 13. I can't play a note or read music now.

You'd be surprised. I started learning a new (related) instrument last year to one I last played 35 years ago or thereabouts. I was surprised how much was stashed away as 'muscle memory' at the back of my brain, though of course I'm having to unlearn a lot of technique/bad habits because I am learning a different instrument. It really surprised me. Just goes to show that we do lay down new neural pathways when we take up something new & that some of the 'infrastructure' stays put, even when we aren't actively using it any more.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 17:55

Yes I think that's true RomCom I danced properly a VERY long time ago but can still just about do it at parties (I don't have to be pissed either!), I dance to the radio as my daily exercise though Grin I ain't proud. Grin

RomComPhooey · 11/10/2015 17:57

Totally failed to comment on the dancing, I see.

DH commented that Anton was a shambles and Katie Derham looks like the pro when they are dancing together. As others have noted, he whinges when gets all the duffers, but he doesn't actually know what to do with someone who has talent.

Jay was awesome. DH and I rewound it last night and then watched it twice this morning, just to be on the safe side. Interesting to hear about his previous training, as I noticed he had really nailed that think of whipping his head around when he was doing the twirls. It makes sense. Is contemporary dance that very free from stuff you see at serious dance festivals which involves a serious amount of core strength, holding shapes, flowing into the next one and kind of reminds you of floor-based gymnastic routines? If so, I'd love it if he wove it into his free dance (he's going to make it to the final, right?).

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 18:05

Yes he seems to have a ballet background too, I thought that in his first dance, his 'extension' and balance was balletic. It's unusual to have a good mix of both techniques (witness Helen George) IMO and E.

I reckon he'll win actually!!

RomComPhooey · 11/10/2015 18:13

I didn't manage to finish the previous thread before it topped out & I haven't really got time to go back. Has there been any hypothesising about the final? At the mo, I'm thinking Anita (Countryfile woman), Jay and possibly Kelly.

CaveMum · 11/10/2015 18:14

Tenysmum I'd have to watch Georgia back again but I noted Len's comment of it containing "two openings out and an open basic". If that really is it then it reflects very badly on Giovanni, they are very basic figures.

I'll try & watch Anton and Katie back too, but I'm pretty certain their routine had more than 3 figures in it!

ppeat my teacher often comments how difficult it is to teach people who have had ballet training how to dance ballroom/latin. She's often very critical of the language Darcey uses to describe what she wants to see. A case in point was her telling Helen she needed to "sink" into her hips. She should have said "settle" or "compress" because it is a controlled action, not a collapsing motion as "sink" would imply.

ppeatfruit · 11/10/2015 18:21

Yes CaveMum And the leg movements in the cha cha cha !! I started watching the dancers's legs carefully, I can't do it and neither could any of the contestants I thought that Natalie nailed them, she's fantastic! She is a fab. dancer!

AnyoneButAndre · 11/10/2015 18:31

Going back to Rumba, here's my favourite ever on SCD

Colin was perhaps the most talented completely untrained dancer ever on SCD, but of course he had a fantastically well trained body in terms of fitness and agility because the hurdles is all about perfect physical technique - see also Denise Lewis.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2015 18:33

Is it wrong to hope Jay is in the dance off so that he has to do the jive again?

AnyoneButAndre · 11/10/2015 18:37

It would be mathematically inconceivable Soup, but I think we definitely want to see him reprise it in the final.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2015 18:39

Oh, I know it's impossible but I can still hope :)

KurriKurri · 11/10/2015 19:14

When they announced who was going to being it this year I thought it would be dull - I didn't really know a lot of the celebrities, and those I did know I thought would be really awful and annoying - it's been a real surprise - there are so many who's dancing I have really enjoyed. Jay obviously, Anita, Katie, Kelly and Helen.

And in the slightly less talented group - I love Ainsley and Jeremy's enthusiasm.
I thought Daniel was going to be really cringey and dull, but he seems like a nice man and is giving it his best.

I think it's going to be a really good year - looking forward to so many of the dances to come.
