Following on from thread one.

Very surprised that Ainslie was in the bottom two but I hadn't realised he was third last on the leader board. I thought he would be much more popular. It will be interesting to see how he does next week. Kirsty had a lucky escape.

MagicalRealist · 11/10/2015 22:19

Please don't make out that the lowest number of votes is about race because it isn't.

Of course not Smile

SoupDragon · 11/10/2015 22:25
Hmm
LisbethSalandersPan · 11/10/2015 22:32

My darling Aliona!

She is also v happy that I drew her in the office sweep stake. I'm a bit of an Anton fan - he is sort of the competing celebrity really. And I did have a massive crush on Katie years ago. So if Mrs Aliona Pan can win with Katie/Anton runners up.

The racism accusation is just absurd.

CaveMum · 11/10/2015 22:48

The problem with Ainslie is that anyone under the age of 25 will have no idea who he is!

Jamelia was in the bottom 2 last week because her dance wasn't great, she's not very popular (due to her Loose Women appearances) and her partner doesn't have a big fan base yet.

Anthony was in the bottom 2 because, again, his dance wasn't great and he's not very well known. Plus this is Oti's first year so she doesn't have a fan base to vote for her yet.

2rebecca · 11/10/2015 23:00

I'm 50 and know him as yet another celebrity chef but don't think I've ever watched him on TV and have none of his books so lots of older viewers don't know much about him either. At least I recognised his name though unlike the 2 blokes who've exited..

AnyoneButAndre · 11/10/2015 23:11

I dunno about the racism thing. You'll never have a smoking gun because it's a vote to save not evict, several non-white dancers have won and for every individual voting decision you can make a special case: "Darren Gough was on a journey and Colin was a bit of a bot", "Ainsley screwed up his dance and Carol is catnip to the SCD demographic", "Ricky Whittle ran that bloke over in semi-finals week". But my gut feel is that if you did an impossible graph of "objective dance quality" vs "viewers votes" then the angles of lines for white vs BME dancers would differ to a small but noticeable degree.

Sparklingbrook · 11/10/2015 23:19

I agree with you Cave. Jamelia is dreadful on LW. She has said some very stupid stuff which made her very unpopular.
I had never heard of Anthony, remembered AH from Ready Steady Cook years ago but no idea what he does now.

Darcourse · 11/10/2015 23:33

It's been obvious for years that the strictly voting public don't tend to vote for BME celebs. It was the same in Dancing on Ice. It's a bit like to be a BME contestant you have to be better than your non-BME counterparts. I can't believe people are even debating this, it's the same every year. SadAngry

That said, I was also in shock that Ainsley was saved - I think I must have been watching different dances.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2015 06:33

No it isn't. If it was then a non-White contestant would never have won.

I still suspect that Ainsley was chosen over Anthony because of Anthony's shoulder.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2015 07:00

It is mostly down to how big their fan base is in the early days.

Horsemad · 12/10/2015 07:12

It's almost a certainty that Anthony was voted out because of his shoulder - there's no way he'd have been able to fulfill the dance criteria with a non working shoulder, how would he manage the lifts etc?

Darcourse · 12/10/2015 07:31

If it was then a non white candidate would never have won.

And there's no racism in the USA because their president is black.Hmm

MagicalRealist · 12/10/2015 07:58

There's a million plausible reasons for each of the black contestants to have been so unpopular with the public and we'll never know one way or the other whether their skin colour had anything to do with it.

But the fact that all 3 black contestants ended up in the dance off in the first 2 weeks is quite striking and worthy of comment IMO.

Out of 12 non-black celebs, just 1 was in the dance off in the last 2 weeks. Of the 3 black celebs, every single one of them was.

As I said, there's no proof of race playing any part in the results but it's fair enough for people to notice and remark on it.

areyoubeingserviced · 12/10/2015 08:18

Exactly Magic.
I think it is worth commenting on as it is probably the first thing many people thought of when they saw the two in the dance off. Obviously , both celebrities were not great, but others were worse ,
I truly believe , that if you are BME you have to much better than the white celebrities to stay in the competition.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/10/2015 08:25

A friend of mine damaged his rotator cuff (nowhere near as badly as Anthony's) and he found it hard going - you just can't not use the right arm when you dance. Ballroom dancing isn't kind on shoulder injuries!

He didn't have all the lifts and tricks that Anthony would have had either - as it was they took out a lot of drops and lines that put pressure on it, but it still took a long time and lots of physio to improve it.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 12/10/2015 09:16

Perhaps the British racist voters were out the night Aleesha Dixon won. Or the night Louis Smith did. Or Natasha Kerplinsky. Or when Colin Jackson got through to the final.

Not everything is about race. Sometimes you're in the dance off because no-one knows who the feck you are, or you're a dick, or you're not a very good dancer.

I always have an irrational hatred for whoever partners your Nathalie woman because it's always far more about her, than her partner. Perhaps that makes me Ozzist.

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2015 09:18

Exactly Polkadots Poor Anthony shouldn't have been in it, of course you can't dance with one arm and shoulder out of action. Who thought it was a good idea? I loved Oti we'll see more of her I'm certain.

I don't think racism has anything to do with it . What about Louis who won it 2 years ago. ? Ainsley is fun and tries hard, Nat is brilliant but can't really make a dancer out of him, he's a fun novelty type!

The80sweregreat · 12/10/2015 10:44

lets face it, the Celebs just do a lot of these reality shows for publicity, flagging careers and most of all, money! ( I had never heard of Jay McGuiness before this anyway!) Its just entertainment , I doubt brilliant Jay will win because of the backlash about him having dancing training before. The public don't like being duped, however good he is. We are hard to please!

Brytte · 12/10/2015 11:18

Usually it's the non-skinny over 50s woman that is voted off first isn't it?

2rebecca · 12/10/2015 11:22

No, they usually do quite well I thought. There have been a few overweight women do better than I expected. Unknown stiff men don't usually last long, the stiff well known ones fare a bit better.

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2015 13:18

I can't remember his name but he was black, damn sexy , could dance, and was in the final last year. Maybe all the racists were out when HE was being voted for each week Grin

IthoughtATMwasacashpoint · 12/10/2015 13:23

Simon Webbe from Blue

ppeatfruit · 12/10/2015 13:27

Yeah thanks IthoughtATM grrrrrr..... he was the dogs' !!

SheHasAWildHeart · 12/10/2015 14:08

I had never heard of Jay McGuiness before this anyway
He was in The Wanted and a lot of young girls will know who he is!

I doubt brilliant Jay will win because of the backlash about him having dancing training
Didn't Caroline Flack will last year am sure there were rumblings about her being at dance school? And tbh at the moment the only ones who look likely to win are the ones with previous training, ie Jay, Helen, Kellie.
