ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

At the end of episode 3 we were shown another facet of the Slater's life.

Claire is in her SINGLE bedroom (which is used in the opening credits) administering to a bruised eye. Is domestic violence the reason that Eric won't allow them to move to secure shelter?

  • IS ERIC A WIFE-BEATER?
  • IS LES A MOTHER- BEATER?

I can't remember who alerted us to the pictures used in the opening credits as clues, but they were spot-on!

Can I throw my ( possibly wide of the mark) theories into the ring?

I think they were all involved with The Fenwicks in various ways, and Arlington House possibly on their "patch" so a good source of disaffected itinerant youngsters to recruit as runners, casual heavies, etc.
Slater was bookkeeper for AH but I bet he was laundering money for the Family too, and I wonder how he had his accident resulting in being in a wheelchair?
Father Rob may have had a fling with JoJo & been threatened or beaten up by Jimmy ( set up by Slater maybe?) who then stole goodies from the church which Fr Rob then had to cover up or his affair would be out. I think JoJo is blackmailing him, about this and other events possibly that he knew more about than he should.
I suspect Jimmy either knew too much, and /or after Lizzie & boyfriend started hanging around AH with their bigoted views, he (Jimmy) tried to get away & was killed to stop him blabbing about the Fenwicks. Possibly by Frankie.
I think there is more to come out about Lizzie but not sure if she was involved in the murder directly.
The mention of Frankie liking peas was too obviously thrown in, Ep 1 so think that will come up later as evidence somehow.
His wife & Slaters wife know more than they let on, Claire now because her memory is muddled, but it is worrying her.

Probably way off Mark but looking forward to tonight !

Great theories there Floundering. Are you watching "Unforgotten" with DD and DS?

Now, this is thing my thread detectives, we have got THREE out of four protagonists linked directly to Arlingham House:

  • Beth Laws (now Lizzie Wilton) stayed there 8 times, 5 times at the same time as Jimmy.
  • Father Rob was a cleric from the nearby church who allegedly 'gave succour' to those at Arlingham House. He had a 'dalliance' with Jo-Jo in a storeroom there (witnessed by Eric Slater)
  • Eric Slater was the book-keeper for Arlingham House.

WE HAVE NOT YET FOUND/SEEN THE CONNECTION BETWEEN FRANKIE CROSS (SIR PHILIP) AND ARLINGHAM HOUSE!

So far, we haven't seen a Frankie C flashback linked to Arlingham House:

All flashbacks for "Unforgotten" can be found here

Sadwidow - Jimmy would now be 56 years old.

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 14:50

You are correct

17 yrs old in 1976

Murdered 39 yrs ago - so would be 56 years old now.

Okay, that blows Les Slater off the suspect list!

Perhaps Eric has a different hold over Les, something to do with the house? He may have had ties to the Fenwicks for many years after Jimmy's death.

So impressed with your posts :)

Looking forward to tonight :)

Tho frank cross seems dodgy I think the priest or wheelchair man murdered Jimmy

Think this is no 4?

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 18:14

Blondeshavemorefun Never mind being 'impressed' - just keep your eyes peeled as you are watching tonight. This case is so complex it is becoming 'obsfercuring'

I won't be around after tomorrow to do screenshots (I am off to a family Christening) and won't be back until next Thursday when we get episode 5.

You must all keep up the clues - I won't have wi-fi where I am going but I will try to visit a library Wink

Ooh sadwidow you'll be twitching by next week!!

No watching alone but with you lot for company!

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 19:36

Floundering I am 'twitching' already. I am so happy with my own company and DDog. (That's my 'new normal') It takes a HUGE amount of energy to meet with family members - and I hate every minute I waste, and every ounce of energy I use.

I have to bath the DDog, and lift him into the car when he would really like to stay at home. (He's 16+ years now and thinks he should just walk, eat and snooze) Smile

I'd rather be un-picking a great TV programme with you all (with as many DDs and DSs that you can muster to the cause!). I bet the DDs and DSs have lateral thinking and will have Jimmy's murder solved in a trice!

Be warned ..... I will be tearing my hair out by NEXT Thursday.

Soooo... I am going to enjoy tonight's episode and do all my washing, packing and cleaning around 9-10pm Grin

OP posts:
sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 20:59

The DDog has had a Coatex bath - all dried down and curry-combed. He's out on the decking now so job done!

4 minutes to go............................

I'll pour the Chardonnay Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine Wine

I bought mixed nuts and raisins for nibbles. Okay?

No 29 is QPR Queen's Park Rangers, isn't that Father Rob's team that he talked football with Jimmy?

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:06

quirkychick

This is No 29

Is that QPR?

OP posts:
sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:06

Well, we have opened with Eric Slater DV.

OP posts:
Floundering · 29/10/2015 21:13

On peppermint tea here.......ooh Les is starting to wonder.

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:14

Ah... Cassie has figured out that Fr Rob may have used the nearest pay-phone! The Detective team have to find all numbers dialed out

Go Cassie! Go!

OP posts:
quirkychick · 29/10/2015 21:15

It looks like the letters QPR can't see the same logo online but could be a 70s logo. I thought Father Rob said he and Jimmy discussed football and Father Rob supported Queen's Park Rangers.

The Times review had spoilers about Eric Slater's violent past, Father Rob confessing to his wife and the marks on Jimmy's fingers.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/10/2015 21:17

grrrrrrrrrrrr missed first 15mins coz of friend in need on phone (bless her) but what have i missed?

quirkychick · 29/10/2015 21:18

Logopedia has that as a 1975-1982 Queen's Park Rangers logo.

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:20

Oh no - forensics have told Cassie that Jimmy's digits show signs ........and said that Jimmy's skeleton show "other forms of torture".

This is pretty bleak isn't it?

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:21

Have we seen this Alan McKie (Mackie) before? The one in touch with the police saying he knows Beth.

OP posts:
sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 21:26

Jo-Jo is Joanna Bridges

OP posts:
quirkychick · 29/10/2015 21:26

I guess it has to be bad for them all to be lying so much.

Oh, Mackie is quite interesting, he's implying that Beth was an onlooker.

There is definitely a football connection!

Jo-jo!
