ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

De-lurking to say how much I'm enjoying this series, enhanced by this thread!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/10/2015 21:15

So we think that the wheelchair man killed Jimmy coz of the blood and the fact he doesn't want to move and is a bully to his wife?

sadwidow28 · 28/10/2015 09:59

Do you think you might fancy uploading to an online folder

I don't mind having a go at doing that.

What could Slater be hiding when Jimmy's body has already been found?

Think Carol is Mrs Slater's sister who's now abroad. Although we haven't seen either of the Salter boys' wives.

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 12:46

What could Slater be hiding when Jimmy's body has already been found? unearthing a new body would be quite a good twist. Could be Carol of course :o

I thought in the first episode that his reluctance to move was just a refusal to admit they weren't coping (seems very common) so it could still be a red herring. Either way I reckon they're all guilty of something.

Fiderer · 28/10/2015 12:59

Carol Shock Could be. She's been mentioned twice - wasn't it her old house the wife went off to and the son picked her up, saying "She's moved"?

I assumed the reason for staying was pride and a reluctance to admit he can't cope plus the need to be in control. Bastard that he is.

But the focus is on Jimmy.

Unless the "nights he didn't come home" had something to do with Carol.

fuzzpig · 28/10/2015 14:32

Ooh that's true. Off shagging his SIL.

I love how there are so many possibilities in this show. I'm not really enjoying the whole mobster aspect (yawn) but there is so much to keep us guessing and so many different stories.

sadwidow28 · 28/10/2015 14:57

I actually think that all 4 characters are going to be inter-woven and in some way responsible for Jimmy's death.

Sir P's flashbacks last week were of some sort of racist storming of a house (was Beth one of the 'stormers' who carried a lantern?) - screen shots on page 14 of this thread.

Father Rob has had flashbacks of Jimmy lashing out with his fist. Is Jimmy a Fenwick Family thug also OR did he beat up Father Rob for some wrong-doing? Is that 'wrong-doing' Father Rob sleeping with Jo-Jo who was Jimmy's girlfriend? - screen shots on page 13 of this thread.

We have only had ONE lot of flashbacks from Eric Slater and that gave us the clue to Father Rob's sexual liaison with Jo-Jo. - screen shots on page 9 of this thread.

But we know from Sheila Slater that Eric stayed out over-night and once came home with blood on a garment. I can't find a reason to link Slater to the death of Jimmy yet, other than, PERHAPS Slater IS the Fenwick's book-keeper and Jimmy didn't pay back the £50 loan. Someone has to authorise/tell the debt-collector (Frankie C) who to go after with the bolt-cutters.

OP posts:
quirkychick · 28/10/2015 15:09

Yy, I agree that all 4 characters will somehow be complicit, hence the lying, denial and flashbacks.

Love that it was all separate threads and is slowly coming together.

quirkychick · 28/10/2015 15:22

If it's the same £50, why was the money transferred from Jimmy's loan to the Slaters to buy their house. Some kind of payoff?

Sir Philip used bolt cutters for debt collecting, but not for killing, as far as we know. Maybe Jimmy did something worse? Or a situation escalated out of control and resulted in murder.

Possible causes:

racism: we know Beth Laws was staying at the hostel at the same time as Jimmy on several occasions

debtcollecting/gangland killing: Jimmy knew Frankie C and had a phonenumber registered to the Fenwicks in his diary, that £50, spyder...

crime of passion: the mysterious Jo-jo, gave Jimmy the diary, apparently Father Rob was caught in flagrante with her

Not sure yet how Eric Slater comes in, apart from bookkeeping. Possibly a different motive...

sadwidow28 · 28/10/2015 15:49

Please can someone check that I have done this uploading correctly?

The password is MNUnforgotten

This is an album of all the flashbacks.

If that works, I will upload all the Arlingham house info.

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 28/10/2015 16:06

I can see 21 images SW, no password required.
Hope that's going to be handy and you didn't mind me suggesting the extra work for you! Flowers Thank you.

I've been offline all day so I'll go back and read the thread, because something occured to me in the night, but it may have been mentioned already.

sadwidow28 · 28/10/2015 16:35

Oh thank you for checking ENtertainmentAppreciated

Yes, I uploaded 21 flashback files. It was quite easy to do (once I found where the files were stored on my laptop).

I didn't realise how many screenshots I had taken over 3 episodes ..... I must have inundated everyone! Blush

sadwidow28 · 28/10/2015 16:55

Okay, I have now uploaded 'Arlington House' - only 4 images at this stage, but I did a 'test' and uploaded 3 then added another. Yes - there were 4. So I now know I can images to a gallery.

Arlingham House Photo Gallery - screenshots

I haven't finished uploading my screen shots - and I think this one is a bit messy:

I need to know what occurred to you EN :o

Well done on the uploading SW sterling work there!

I'm feeling rather bereft of telly since From Darkness finished (I know lots didn't rate it but I enjoyed Jonny Harris the escapism), and I'm all caught up with River. Do need to catch up on Jekyll and Hyde with DH, but DD nicks the laptop in the evenings to listen to audiobooks so there's no chance to watch it!

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 28/10/2015 19:49

Sorry, my connection keeps going and I still haven't managed to read back yet, so...I can't remember who it was, but I thought in the night that I saw one of the male characters' hand and it looked odd, like perhaps the joints had been crushed, kind of limp and useless.
I think it was the right hand and it was resting on a table. Could've been the former Fenwick member who rang The Mirror?

I'm really not sure.

Not helped by the fact that last night I had a really vivid dream featuring Nicola Walker, it was a crime mystery, but my own story. That's confusing.

My problems are that we're programmed to feel as though the deceased is naturally a victim, which of course they are, but that doesn't mean they're wholly innocent either.
I'm leaning towards to denouement being multiple crimes with lots of inter connections, so much more complex than we imagine.

fuzzpig · 29/10/2015 00:00

Ah yes you're right I think the hand close-up was the one who sold his story.

Write your dream down, maybe you could write a crime novel out of it and make your fortune :o

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 07:22

If you look in the flashbacks for Fr Rob, you will see that his memory of Jimmy is hitting out (at him?)

In Fr Rob v5 screenshot I think there is blood on Jimmy's middle finger:

I recall taking Fr Rob v8 and Fr Rob v9 from a sequence that was Jimmy lashing out at someone

OP posts:
quirkychick · 29/10/2015 08:09

Oh, EN I think it could be lots of interconnections. Racism, debt, organised crime, love affair... what a mix! Jimmy doesn't seem a straightforward character, either. I think that Arlington Place must have been a very interesting, but not very safe place. Did people regularly go missing, which was why nobody there reported Jimmy missing? Are there other people beneath Eric Slater's house?

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 10:13

EN

I thought in the night that I saw one of the male characters' hand and it looked odd

I have checked Tommy Pinion and both hands are all present and correct. At first I thought you were correct, but it was just the way he was holding his right hand when he started the meeting with the 2 detectives.

We'll watch out for crippled hands tonight though Grin

I'm cross because the dream's totally wiped from my memory now. Darn, I should've written it down right at the time Angry

I think it's very successfully setting the tone of the times with the portrayal of the transient no real questions asked format of AP.
I'm so invested because the acting is so good that I'm really believing in the characters, except maybe Sir Philip. Is it realistic that he'd have kept his shady past hidden for so long? especially post phone hacking. But no matter, we can suspend disbelief.

Just think though, Father Rob having a physical relationship with a girl and not even knowing her surname either.

All the revelations are so shocking.
No one is what they seem. What is the key going to be?

As well as worrying for Curtis now, I'm getting very concerned for Jimmy's mother and that she won't get the peace she needs from the resolution.

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 11:52

When I was checking out Tommy Pinion for EN and fuzzpig, the episode rolled into the Eric Slater interview.

I saw a flashback that I hadn't done screen shots for. So my detectives, I offer you a young Eric Slater presumably at Arlingham House doing his book-keeping.

Eric Slater recalls Jimmy as a 'nice lad' and we see a vision through the window of Jimmy playing football with 2 mates. Jimmy then appears to look up at the window and smiles at Eric.

Now there is something else I noticed. When Eric saw the police arriving in the drive, he said to his wife, "You'd better phone Les". That's his son who helps a lot with the confused mother (dementia), but WHY would Eric need Les in the interview with HIM?

Eric says that Jimmy was not the type of person who got into fights. "Quite a gentle soul". [But WE know that Fr Rob's flashbacks are of Jimmy in a 'thuggery mode'] Les is very focussed on his Dad's face whilst Eric is answering the questions, but when Eric is speaking about Jimmy not getting into any fights, there is a lot of blinking by Les and finally Les drops his gaze.

WHAT IS LES' INVOLVEMENT? IS ERIC COVERING FOR LES?

OP posts:
quirkychick · 29/10/2015 12:02

Yy to AP being transient. Eric Slater definitely said that in his interview. Transient because it's a hostel or transient/people disappearing because of the Fenwick's involvement? A perfect place to make someone disappear or an accident gone wrong?

Definitely, a good setting up of the atmosphere of the times, so well crafted and paced.

sadwidow could Les have been born in 1976? What could he have covered up? Is Les just there for support... looking shadier and shadier. Les certainly tries to support the idea of his mum having dementia and what she says having no credence. Is it dementia, or some kind of breakdown/other mental health issues due to Eric's shady past, traumatic events and abuse?

sadwidow28 · 29/10/2015 12:30

Quirkychick I am trying to work out how old Les Slater is.

We know that the Slaters are about to celebrate their Sapphire wedding anniversary. That's 45 years. Les is the elder of their 2 sons and assists with the caring of Claire. Matt - with the BMW- is the younger son.

Let's assume that their elder child (Les) will be 44 years old now.

Jimmy died in 1976 (aged 17 years) so Jimmy would be 46 yrs old.

Does that 'fit' in the ball-park of possibility?
