ITV’s six episode thriller series Unforgotten from former ITV drama executives Laura Mackie and Sally Haynes’ fledgling indie Mainstreet Pictures will premiere on Thursday October 8th at 9pm, it has been announced.

Penned by Undeniable scribe Chris Lang, Unforgotten tells the story of an 39 year old cold investigation into the murder of a boy who was killed in 1976. The modern day investigation is run by DCI Cassie Stuart and DI Sunil ‘Sunny’ Khan, who must re-examine the evidence and investigate the key suspects – Robert Greaves, Frank Philip Cross, Lizzie Wilton and Eric Slater – in order to close the case. The series utilises a multi-stranded narrative, set in different parts of the country, which explores and connects each of the principle characters.

The six-parter is produced by Mainstreet Pictures and features a large cast that includes Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars), Nicola Walker (Last Tango In Halifax), Trevor Eve (Waking The Dead), Bernard Hill (The Grid), Ruth Sheen (Our Girl), Tom Courtenay (The Dresser), Gemma Jones (Marvellous), Brian Bovell (Death in Paradise), Cherie Lunghi (Casualty), Hannah Gordon (Hustle), Claire Goose (Mount Pleasant) Tamzin Malleson (Midsomer Murders), Peter Egan (Downton Abbey), and Frances Tomelty (Catastrophe). Ripper Street helmer Andy Wilson was the director.

I think that EeyoresTail is thinking the same thing as me - Father Rob.

The idea/possibility of the Fenwicks actually running the hostel wasn't something I spotted. Thanks for that suggestion quirkychick. I am going to give that more thought.......

I'll have to go back to episode 1 and gather all the information we were given about Arlingham House ..... there is still lots to figure out and Cassie and Sunnie won't hand over their police files to me Grin

I did say yesterday that I wondered if Curtis has a bigger role than we first thought. I was trying to figure if Jo-Jo was linked to Curtis and his mother. But then I followed EeyoresTail's clue .... yep, so much more to learn! I was probably on the wrong lines - but definitely there is more to learn about Curtis.

We must be due to have the SAPPHIRE WEDDING ANNIVERSARY of Sheila and Eric Slater soon. Is it possible that the 4 protagonists will be guests at that party? It does seem to be a BIG event.

Now will someone tell me who Carol is!

Thank you.

Op, why do you say its stretching things a bit to have a 16 year old at 42?

sadwidow28 · 25/10/2015 17:54

I asked IF it was stretching things in the context of this fictitious drama.

My mother had DC9 aged 42yrs old (1962).

Does that answer your question?

Have I posted this recap yet?

Unforgotten – episode three recap: 'Let them prove you lied'. The Guardian, 22nd October 2015

"We’re halfway through Unforgotten and exactly what I hoped would happen is happening – tension slowly but surely being cranked up with each episode. As flesh is gradually put on the bones of Jimmy’s murder, the stakes rise; how this finishes is anybody’s guess."

Sir Philip Cross - Bolt cutters? Frankie C was an even nastier person than we thought.

Lizzie Wilton - It’s a conversation she prayed she’d never have to have, but Lizzie lays it bare with Ray about her abusive childhood, her time as a violent racist and the reason why she never takes off those rings.

“So I was just your penance, was I?” he asks.

Lizzie swears not, but detonating this particular bomb was always going to lead to heavy fallout, a point well illustrated when Curtis overhears enough of the Wiltons’ conversation to learn the truth about her past.

Eric Slater - It all starts off so nicely with Eric’s fond reminiscences of sharing cigarettes with Jimmy at Arlingham House. He remembers Jo-Jo, too, a girl barely out of school, having walked in on her having sex with “what’s-his-face from St Gildas” – Father Robert to you and I.

Robert Greaves - For someone who has been doing a lot of it recently, Robert’s not very good at lying. After a panic attack lands him in hospital, he gets further cause for anxiety when Sunny and Cassie return with the allegation about JoJo. It was a brief fling, and the worst mistake of his life, he tells them, and it all sounds plausible enough. But when he insists the last time that he spoke to her was 39 years ago, we know he’s lying. And he’s keeping quiet about his flashback, to what looks a lot like Jimmy stomping him out.

Right..... I have done a screenshot of Cassie in front of the police whiteboard.

There are some names from episode 1 that have left my memory and I haven't been paying attention to them:

(1) Paul Fleet
(2) Kevin Flemming
(3) "Shrimp"
(4) Rita Monroe

My rather preposterous theory is that Shirley Cross is actually JoJo, and has changed /altered her name like some of the others.
She was having relationships with all the main protagonists and that racist Erksine who was Lizzies boyfriend and played them all off against each other.

She really wanted to be with Frankie C so they hatched a plot to get rid of Jimmy who was getting too serious about her, and too mixed up with the Fenwicks. Frankie C also stole the £50 loan from Jimmy.

In the end Jimmy was murdered by Frankie and his (later) wife with the peas - either poisoned, hit over the head with frozen ones, (they did have frozen peas in the 70s) or scalded and then done away with.

The others knew all about it and may have aided and abetted with the body disposal at some point, but have kept quiet because of their guilt about lusting after JoJo and because they were scared of the Fenwicks.

Only Sir Philip knows his wife's true identity and they have kept a special phone with her old number, or had that number re-routed or whatever just in case anybody from the past gets in touch.

Anyway, preposterous or not, I do think the peas are significant...

sadwidow28 · 26/10/2015 14:52

Loving it FawnDrench Grin

I have to say that I think the peas could be more significant in the plot. I am screen-shotting the opening credits and there is sooooooo much in there. When I did the list last week after episode 2 (page 9 of this thread) I thought I could be wrong when I described an image as 'bolt-cutters'. Lo and behold, didn't they become significant in episode 3?

Oh, sadwidow I've just read that link, really interesting, especially the comments underneath!

I think Eric Slater is going to turn out to be a nasty bit of work. I liked that idea that "bookkeeper" suggested money laundering for the Fenwicks.

sadwidow28 · 26/10/2015 15:59

Oooooh quirkychick I think you have just got the opening credit link to 'spreadsheets/accounts' (page 9 of this thread).

I am still trying to screenshot that picture to see if I can grab some names.

I need to get everything uploaded before Thursday so that we are ready to rock-and-roll for episode 4. I am sooooooo over-invested!

I think the accounts may be what the Bishop was looking at when he rang Greaves about the missing money.

I have to go over to the thread led by fuzzpig

After the disappointment of "From Darkness" it will be good to see the next episode of this series.

Eric Slater is a nasty piece of work, Father Rob is dodgy and I have been working on the assumption Sir Philip's wife was Jo Jo.

Nice as it is to see Peter Egan and I appreciate that they are emphasising that there are secrets kept in even law-abiding families, not sure the story about Cassie's mum having an affair really adds much. It would be refreshing to just show a detective doing their job competently (and compassionately, eg going the extra mile being thoughtful with Maureen Jimmy's mother), without a back story/home life to dwell on.

PS Well spotted and shall see whether Bella does still adopt a casual hands-in-pockets stance, it's funny seeing actors incorporate familiar quirks in different roles.

fuzzpig · 26/10/2015 18:04

Just watched latest episode, really enjoying this show. Heartbreaking when Jimmy's mum went to the grave :(

fuzzpig · 26/10/2015 18:47

Not quite caught up with all the chat about episode 3 but well done to the person who spotted that it's £50 'again' - assume you mean that it was £50 given to Eric and his wife to buy the house, mentioned in episode 1. You could be on to something there, I'd not noticed it.

I don't think the murder was by Cross about an owed £50 though. I think (hope) it will be something far more interesting complicated than that.

Openup41 · 26/10/2015 19:15

I doubt I have been this excited about any other TV drama. I wish I recorded all six weeks and watched them back to back. When one episode finishes I count down the days until the next.

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 26/10/2015 20:44

I have managed to read some of the board:

Rita Monroe - Deceased 1992 DSS Computer
Shrimp - Drug addict died late 20's
Paul Fleet - Did occasional building work
Kev Flemming - Met Jimmy once at party ? Interested in ?

sadwidow28 · 27/10/2015 09:05

Why is the Baxter non-story still going

I have been puzzling over that for a couple of weeks. My latest theory (now she has been asked to visit Brendan Coyle in prison) is that Miss Baxter and actually Mrs Coyle. Now that would put a spanner in the works for the close friendship developing between Baxter and Mosely.

It's Downton Grin

I have been so behind I haven't been commenting. Am trying to get my head around everything but getting confused.

not sure the story about Cassie's mum having an affair really adds much
Well, unless there's some revelation contained within that part of the storyline which links either her mother, or the OM to the investigation or person(s) in it?

ENtertainmentAppreciated · 27/10/2015 14:32

SW
I really appreciate all your screen grabs and recaps, thank you.

Do you think you might fancy uploading to an online folder - much like the police white board so that they can all be shown on one external link and easy to refer back to?
You could use something like an account at www.postimage.org which is free.

fuzzpig · 27/10/2015 14:33

Ah I see thanks. I don't watch Downton, not my thing :o
