US OPEN tennis thread- it's the last Grand Slam of the year- who will win?

Obviously, my heart wants Nadal to end a shit year, with a massive (if pretty unlikey) win. But hey, the defending champ is Marin Cilic- so who knows what will happen.Grin But he will face Coric in the first round, which might be tricky.

And Murray has Kyrgios. For a one-time only deal, I am firmly team Murray. The arrogant little Aussie needs to end 2015 with his tail between his legs- and come back next year more contrite. Of course, it has the potential to be as messy and sweary as their other encounters- which will trigger Nick's suspended ban. Here's hoping Grin

Listening to Radio 5SX on the tv to Federer vs Wawrinka, but not sure how much longer I can stay up. Anyone else watching/listening? Come on Fed!

Flabbergasted about Serena earlier!Shock Who could have predicted that?

I missed the whole thing. TORONTO, less than 600 km away, and the fecking Canadian broadcasters are showing Canadian Football League bullshit and NASCAR.

I mean honestly.

I'm surprised Wawrinka didn't give him more of a run for his money TBH.

Shocked and happy in equal measure about Serena though. Didn't see that one coming but she needed to be taken down a peg or two. From what I have read online she wasn't exactly a gracious loser either.

Serena wasn't a gracious loser, Hearts, you surprise me. What with her being such a quiet, humble woman. Grin

I am sad that Stan and Marin couldn't give Synth and Djokovic a scare at least. I'm glad Cilic got as far as he did though. I think I want Fed to win now- if Djok wins too many, he will catch up with Rafa. Can't have that. Grin

Yes, Serena a shock - what with the Commentators writing off Vinci after the third game in the first set, and then going on about Serena getting in the groove, Serena to win, and then Vinci plugged away steadily, and WON.

Pity about Federer - Warwrinka- would have liked more of a match there, but too tired to stay up to listen anyway.

I am pleased that Roger won quickly and easily, as he will be fresh for the final. As a massive fan, I think he needs to hold a little something back for the finals, as in recent years, he's been brilliant in several tournaments, almost too good (Murray in the semis of this year's Wimbledon, for example ), but failed to shine in the finals. If he doesn't win here, I hope Stefan can work on this with him, as next year is his last chance for another GS, really. He has played so well on the grass and hard courts this year, it would be a shame not to win the title here.

Well done, Flavia Penetta! The BBC article says she and Vinci were childhood friends, which is sweet.
