Travesty.
Apart from every other single mangling of the book, the scientist friend reminds me of Tom Parker Bowles.

And TPB is Albert?!?!?!?!?

i am loving it\but I am sure i read at least one of the books and it was better

HarrietVane99 · 02/08/2015 23:39

I got through five minutes of the first episode last week. And that was being generous. I wanted to switch off as soon as I saw they'd updated it.

DramaAlpaca · 02/08/2015 23:45

I lasted about ten minutes of the first episode then gave up.

fishboneschokus · 02/08/2015 23:57

It gets so so so much worse.

The plot was about the Lusitania.

Is this something to do with the Christie estate trying to make as much as possible before the copyright runs out?

In which case, why not actually base it on the Christie book?

Northernlurker · 02/08/2015 23:59

Dd and I are quite enjoying it. It's nonsense obviously but quite fun.

LoveVintage · 03/08/2015 00:03

I watched last week and thought it was bloody awful. Tried to give it the benefit of the doubt tonight and lasted about ten minutes.

fishboneschokus · 03/08/2015 00:05

High production values but painful if one was expecting any relationship to the book.

Will Tuppence accept Julius's proposal?
Is Tommy in love with Jane Finn?
Will T and T ever get together?

What of the urchin Alfred?

OP posts:
fishboneschokus · 03/08/2015 00:07

Not a spoiler, but I guess Julius won't end up marrying Jane since he is apparently now her uncle.

James Fleet has aged. Last time I looked he was a bright young thing.

We're set about thirty years out aren't we? I can't quite get my head around it! There are so many changes, but it's too similar for me to just pretend it's a different story...

liquidrevolution · 03/08/2015 11:00

Its awful. The book is so much better!

I am surprised its BBC and not ITV to be honest. Especially after the ITV revamp of Miss Marple where she pops up in stories she does not feature in (and the endings change so much its barely recognisable to the book).

I was saving them both to watch in one go but have now switched off...

LIZS · 03/08/2015 11:03

The original material was pretty weak , let alone what David Walliams has done with it. Unwatchable.

PerspicaciaTick · 03/08/2015 11:23

I'm quite enjoying it as I don't need to engage my brain and can actually doze through bits of it without missing much plot development. However, every time I remember it is supposed to by AC's Tommy and Tuppence and that they are meant to be post WW1 and Tuppence is meant to be a rather beautifully dressed flapper, I get the rage.
Better to just let it wash over me without thinking too hard.

James Warwick and Francesca Annis made a much better T&T - crisper, more dangerous, funnier.

NewOrleansGirl · 04/08/2015 16:29

I love it! Fun, the viewer doesn't have to think too much, interesting array of characters, full of charm, just how entertainment should be.

fishboneschokus · 04/08/2015 17:45

But does anyone else think that Alfred looks like Tom Parker Bowles?

OP posts:
LouiseBrooks · 04/08/2015 20:31

Perspicacia I remember the 1980s version too and God it was SO much better. Of course James Warwick was a million times better looking than DW but T and T simply weren't this dopey either.

Pixel · 06/08/2015 20:40

I'm really enjoying it but I haven't read the books so I've no idea what has/hasn't been altered. I always mean to read Agatha Christie but somehow never get around to it.

Nettletheelf · 09/08/2015 17:40

The first thing I said to my husband, when Alfred hove into view in the first episode, was, "isn't that Camilla Parker-Bowles' son?".

So no, Fishbone, you are not alone.

fishboneschokus · 09/08/2015 21:26

Thanks Nettle!
:)

Alfred is now playing Guilderstein to Cumberbatches Hamlet.

But there's always work as a lookalike.

Hepzibar · 09/08/2015 21:35

I so much wanted to like this but am struggling.

I love Agatha Christie, like DW and JR and James Fleet but can't quite put my finger on whats wrong with this.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/08/2015 21:51

it's blardy awful.

Walliams can't act to save his life and Tuppence as a name pisses me off - it was also the name of one of my mum's cats when she was a little girl!

SuperFlyHigh · 09/08/2015 21:51

Hepzibar - it's Walliams - the Beeb seem to wank all over him to let him star in dire stuff...

Hepzibar · 09/08/2015 21:55

They are a bit wooden aren't they T&T DW and JR? No emotion.

Dear God - even the big 'reunion' is rubbish.

SuperFlyHigh · 09/08/2015 21:57

Hepzibar I can't stand Walliams also because he had a fling with my SIL's cousin and treated her very badly… so I just know he's a tosser who loves the sound of his own voice and apparently has an ego the size of the planet Earth.

Hepzibar · 09/08/2015 22:24

Mmm super there is something sneering and smart-alecky about him.
