Sorry to hear that firefly :(

I loved it!! The changes were fine and it made sense to fit Strange in at the beginning so it's more balanced. Loved Marsden as Norrell so much tho he is more sympathetic than in the books (I am a bit of a Norellite tho :)). There could have been more of the statues but the one that grabbed the magician was suitably terrifying! Carvel awesome as Strange and I like the fact that we see a bit more of his relationship with Arabella which is massively underplayed in the books. Paul Kaye his usual mad self. I like that we saw a little bit of Stephen and there was a bit about the Raven King to be expanded in later episodes.

Sooo hyper now!!

Enjoying the reactions on Twitter. It is a love it or hate it kind of book. I wonder how much sense it makes if you haven't read the book? The footnotes did help enormously.

I was worried about Strange but Bertie Carvel was just as he needed to be.

There are a couple more clips up on the site now fwiw. I spoiled myself a fair amount for the first ep so I might try and hold off watching for a while (hard though!!)

I don't normally like Charlotte Riley but she did really 'get' Arabella.

Plus kudos for keeping in the way Strange's dad died, I always enjoyed that story. Though I miss the way in the book (that they could never keep in) that you meet Strange for the first time, when the footman is ransacking his room for booze Grin

I can barely remember the book, it didn't really stick with me, but I'm quite enjoying the show.

Loved the book so much, read it years ago so remember some scenes (York Minster in particular, they have a speaker system there IRL and the first time we were there and heard the voices through the speaker system after reading the book I was quietly giggling to myself Grin) and forgotten others. Happy so far although I suspect if you didn't know the book it would be a bit confusing. Marsden as Norrell is perfect.

I'm really happy with the casting. It's spot on for me.

I enjoyed it but I quite like the slow burn approach. The Gentleman with Thistledown Hair was brilliantly menacing and I loved how his voice sounded.

Well I've been watching this. DH really enjoyed the book but I haven't read it but I think I understand what going on. Found the end very exciting yesterday Shock

I like how York and London look so obviously fake. It suits the pastiche-vibe of the book.

I really enjoyed it. The casting was spot on for me and it was nicely paced.

I really liked Childermass. I can't quite remember his story from reading the book and looking forward to it unfolding.

I loved it!!! I don't usually love adaptations especially when its costume dramas but i loved this. The atmosphere was perfect - camp as fuck Grin Norrell comes across as scared and vulnerable rather than arrogant in the book . I think i prefer him on the TV. Drawlight is vile. vinculus scared me. The Raven king was also good.

I have never read the book but DH wanted to watch this (he hasn't read it either.) I quite enjoyed it actually and will definitely be watching again. Loved the bit in York Minster when the statues came to life.

Loved it, although I'm another one who can't remember much of the book. Great casting, and I love the sets. Even the wigs looked good!

I enjoyed it, but had to put the subtitles on - I found some was quite difficult to make out what they were saying.

I was looking forward to this but couldn't quite get into it. It just seemed a bit all over the place. Casting was great and enjoyed spotting which scenes had been filmed at Wentworth Woodhouse, a stately home which is near where I live. The overall 'look' of it was excellent but can't help but feel that that came at the expense of the storyline.

It has inspired me to read the book though and I'll definitely watch it next week.

mrs peter i found ythe book quite complicated and the two protagonist stories were told separately. I think they did a pretty good job of simplifying it so far. I might read the book again after the series and see if it cones together more for me.

I've been wondering where you were cote

I wasn't sure if I couldn't understand some of it because of mumbling or because of the Yorkshire accent. It was mostly Childermass I had problems with, like him a lot though.

Loved the book and really enjoyed this, think they've done a cracking job on it. However, like Igneococcus I found some of the dialogue was very mumbled, and hard to hear or understand. This was not helped by the fact that DH suddenly decided to tell me about some problems he had had with the carburettor on the hedge trimmer Confused...

DH was ironing when it was on and the ironing board squeaked. Plus the mumbling. But I enjoyed it hugely nonetheless. :)

Do you know Trills I'm glad it's not just me. I normally recall plots and characters pretty clearly.

I've read the book and DH who hasn't kept asking is this very much like the book but for the life of me I can hardly recall any of it.

But great atmosphere, the pace seems right, we both enjoyed watching.
