OK - Jimbo died of cystic fibrosis which means Shirley must be a carrier of he gene. They seem to have "revived" Jimbo into the story. I'm going to suggest that Linda's baby has CF and Dean is a carrier of the gene.

Shirley goes off to find his other baby to make him feel better.

So far only Shabnam and Stacey know about the baby and who the father is. I wonder how it all comes out?

I think Shabnam's baby will be part of his comeuppance as well.

I think that he raped her as well, but she's too naive to realise she could have said no. Or was too drunk to say no. He'll deny it ever happened and she'll tell him about the baby as proof.
Then Lush will propose and she'll be married by Xmas.

Soupy - good call on the CF gene. They wouldn't have mentioned that if it wasn't significant somehow. I might have to revise my theory above. Dean's the father and carrier of the gene. Shabnam freaks out and tells him about her baby and Shirl goes to look for her.

CF is the only thing I can think of that would pin point who the father is. Although I suspect I have as much knowledge of DNA testing and genetics as the EE script writers.

Brothers don't have the same DNA so on an electrophoresis gel test they will have different bands. CF wouldn't be visible on a paternity test afaik.

To have a cf baby both parents need to be carriers - so Linda must be plus so maybe one of the brothers is a carrier but other isn't so we know who is the dad

Tho surely DNA would reveal which brother it is

But agree why suddenly bring it up and his anniversary coz they don't usually

So they do pre-natal checks for CF? Perhaps Linda gets some test results showing the baby is at risk. And every man and his dog find out because they'll announce it to a packed pub.

Disclaimer - In case you hadn't guessed knowledge of genetics, CF and testing is somewhat sketchy.

How could I have missed the Jimbo references?! I'm usually pretty good at picking up on little clues to up-coming storylines! Really annoyed with myself now - I just thought it was nice that they were making it a little more realistic by bringing up the past. Must pay more attention! Wink

Delurking to say unless Dean and Mick were twin brothers (which of course they aren't) then their DNA will be different enough to easily figure out who the dad is with DNA testing. And each of them are equally likely to be carrying a CF gene passed down from Shirl.

And no, a CF gene wouldn't be flagged in a paternity test - you'd have to go specifically looking for it (and even then it wouldn't always be identified).

But it does seem likely that CF is somehow going to feature in the storyline...

Maybe Shab's baby will be found (and have CF), then L's baby will also be diagnosed with it, prompting the question of maybe they have the same dad? Or something equally far-fetched and unrealistic Grin

Yes the key! I've read about it too and about her meeting someone from her past. Confused.

I think they do prenatal tests for CF but not routinely. Maybe they realise after he/she is born?

The test will also be sent off and receive within a day, like Sharon's was. (It really does not happen that quickly!)

i bet the script had nothing with CF in it but now the scripwriters probably read this thread to get ideas as they are so lame in their own ideas

EE writers are quickly changing the script to include this story,it's a winner Grin Grin

Yes I remember vaguely Kat talking to Zoe about being in hospital and her mum and dad taking Zoe away from her.

Maybe she spoke to a nun about the abuse the first time it happened? This might be where June Whitfield fits in then?

Yes, she may have given birth in hospital but that doesn't mean she didn't spend time in a mother and baby home.
