Is anyone going to watch this? I'm really torn because the presenter is Giles Coren who I don't like much but the idea is interesting. They are basically getting a family to eat from a different decade each week from 1950s to now

Oh, lighten up Hoover.

Jacana · 27/04/2015 10:40

nothing excuses serving cold leftover liver, leftover cauliflower and leftover plain boiled potatoes to the childrenShock

Why is no-one thinking of the poor long suffering kids havin her cooking this inflicted upon them?

ppeatfruit · 27/04/2015 11:16

Exactly Onlylovers I thought this was a light hearted thread like the programme Grin.

We're all different, some of us like to sit down to CHOP veg. not to actually cook Grin. Some of us don't. Grin.

Hulababy · 27/04/2015 21:12

I'm assuming she served it cold because that is what had been listed in the food survey by someone for that day. I thought that they were using selected menus and recipes from each decades food survey.

Hulababy · 27/04/2015 21:13

Has this woman actually come out and said she has a medical issue with her back?!?! Seems vey unfair to be trying to diagnosis a woman based on a number of short clips on TV!

ElizabethHoover · 27/04/2015 21:42

Just a bit !!!

But it's lighthearted. So that's ok.
More like fruckin insulting.

OnlyLovers · 28/04/2015 10:50

Oh God, give it up. Like no one's ever indulged in a bit of light speculation about anything ever before.

ppeatfruit · 28/04/2015 12:25

Yeah, specially someone off the telly Grin Only

OnlyLovers · 28/04/2015 13:01

Hi, ppeat, by the way! You all right?

Jacana · 28/04/2015 13:27

Menu planner _ use up leftover liver, cauliflower and tats does not equate to serving up the soddin lot as is, does it? Given they'd a store cupboard of staples from the time?

Except, of course, if you're a declared non-cook with no imagination either ...ahhhhhh, I see what happened here Grin

ppeatfruit · 28/04/2015 15:07

Yes I'm very well thanks Only How are you? Grin But perhaps we're being a bit too flippant? Grin

Hulababy · 28/04/2015 17:26

Google suggests a medium rare liver can be served cold and treated similar to a pate or other cold cuts of meat.

Personally I ate the taste and texture of liver - though haven't actually eaten meat for years - hot or cold sounds vile to me.

I do like raw cold cauliflower though, and cold cooked potatoes.

Jacana · 28/04/2015 17:35

But cold cooked potatoes fried or sautéed even better? And the cold liver could have been heated up in a gravy made from the bistro or oxo in the larder. The cauli could have just been heated up over a pan of boiling water.

Again, did nobody think of the poor suffering children? WinkGrin

As for rochelles posture. To come up with a possible medical and acceptable condition surely has to be preferable to my own...that she's a slouchy humourless whinger GrinGrin

OnlyLovers · 28/04/2015 20:10

Yes ppeat.

ppeatfruit · 29/04/2015 10:29

Yes Jacana That meal WAS shocking but they were different days, I remember my mum serving rabbit in the 50s and actually telling us FGS!! We all cried Sad.

Grin Only Grin

scarlets · 14/08/2015 13:45

Loved this programme. The Robshaws seem like a cool family. There's going to be a Christmas special apparently!

Jacana · 14/08/2015 19:36

A christmas special? Shock

If it's in real-time I'll watch - that lovely lad perfectly competent by now to use his chopper to stuff a birdWink and get it in the oven, while his sisters can arrange steamed sprouts and a carrot on the plates in artistic fashion...

Meanwhile mum and dad are in the pub, he downing pints and Rochelle getting stuck into Babychams and Brandies until the kids phone them to come home. And perhaps a bottle of Blue Nun to make this a true celebration?

PS yes, I really know people who drink Babycham and Brandy and Blue Nun,even nowBlush

scarlets · 16/08/2015 12:27

Snowballs, surely!

Davros · 16/08/2015 12:50
