Yes, that's why I think it's unlikely there'll be a second. Lacey would have to have another break. Maybe more likely for a second series to feature different characters. Perhaps The Sausage is in talks at this moment...

FWK351 · 03/03/2015 09:28

OK black sharpie at the ready! I might gonna need to pack my bags incase I get asked to leave...

Nickel45 · 03/03/2015 09:35

Grin fwk

I think they'd have to have lacey, else they'd have to call it Our Man Without Our Girl (obvious BA would need to be in it!). I reckon by the time it's written and whatever else needs to be done it'd be ages, I'm sure they could sort something for Lacey to be out of EE, it's all BBC, does that make a difference?

pixieg1rl · 03/03/2015 09:37

I think the ratings for OG were ok, and it seemed to be popular in the public vote thing, so I'm sure the Beeb won't have ruled it out. A lot will depend on TG wanting to do another series, and then finding a story to write, and then it will come down to the actors' availability. IIRC the third series of Rev was held up because Olivia Coleman and Tom Hollander suddenly became very popular and they were booked up so far in advance that there was years until they could shoot it.

pixieg1rl · 03/03/2015 09:41

Also, using the example of Rev, the 2nd series was aired Nov 2011 and not recomissioned until August 2012.

FWK351 · 03/03/2015 10:09

Ratings for OG were good. It caused more damage to the ratings for Downton than any other programme had in the same Sunday night spot. TG would need another war to write about - but that's hardly a big ask.

Speighty33 · 03/03/2015 10:12

nickel has the news spread that he is back. I'm no good with social media so haven't seen any updates. The Twitters are nothing if not persistent. I think/hope there will be another series as it was quote popular for a sunday evening but agree that it might be some time until we see it on our screens.

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 10:16

Morning! Just catching up with debate over series 2 - my view is there won't be another unless it focuses on other characters Sad

orphan another surgery poster featuring CJ could be legs akimbo and hips thrusting pic saying "I get my testicles checked on a regular basis" with FWK graffiti underneath saying "by hormonal middle aged women who should know better"

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 10:24

My Sunday night viewing is soon to be improved when Poldark rides in on Sunday, however. Just hope it lives up to my bodice ripping, bare chested, hip thrusting, smoulderingly masterful expectations Grin

Rhubarb01 · 03/03/2015 10:26

Morning ladies!

Just been catching up on RL for a few days and skimming through here - not that RL was terribly exciting as the highlight was a road rage type incident in a gridlocked pub car park! I expect that if a second series of OG happens it will catch us all by surprise when we've given it up as a lost cause - but I won't complain. BS42's back soon!

I've been taking a look at the Poldark thread and a couple of the ladies have been to the previews and say it's good so I'll give that a go on Sunday - one of the ladies watched it being filmed in Cornwall and posted some filming shots with Aiden ??. I'm also still watching Indian Summers although in common with a few people on that thread I can't say I like any of the characters and unfortunately find Julie Walters irritating - although I love her in comedy roles. I won't be deserting this thread though as the others are mostly full of serious comments at the moment. Perhaps after episode one of Poldark they'll degenerate amusingly!

Rhubarb01 · 03/03/2015 10:29

CJwoof I hope it lives up to your expectations. Someone on the Poldark thread said that the DVD has been rated 12! Which suggests it won't be terribly suggestive - although Bond films are 12 as well and they have a bit of action in the bedroom!

KeziaOAP · 03/03/2015 10:33

Wasn't there something from BA that said 'section 2 2015 sure' or something like that. To me that came across as a series with section 2 not necessarily him, unless of course his resignation wasn't accepted. The series title was Our Girl based Molly so suppose he could make appearance(s)Hmm. I wouldn't say no to series 2 or even Christmas special but only if the two main characters were in it plus more of of section 2 lads and Jackie.

All the fantastic Ff is keeping the story alive for me, keep it up girls Grin.

Rhubarb01 · 03/03/2015 10:45

I suppose I could also confess on here and boy it is a confession - that I've watched 'Mr Selfridge' or as we call it in our house Mr Selfish! That has to be the most pointless period drama on TV at the moment with some terrible story lines and dialogue (nice costumes though - love some of the embroidery etc on the women's outfits!). It started out with Andrew Davies adapting a book about Selfridge which was OK but I think they're just making it up now and AD's not involved. I suppose that's what you get on commercial stations with lots of money and I bet it still sells well abroad.

STOP PRESS - Radio Times just popped through my letterbox and smouldering pic of Aiden Turner on the front cover. He's got the look of Aramis about him in this one - can't be bad.

LolaKent14 · 03/03/2015 10:49

I read somewhere that TG pitched a prequel to the beeb. Capt J and 2 Section only.

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 10:52

Ooh Lola I'd watch that!

LolaKent14 · 03/03/2015 10:53

Our Boy!

KeziaOAP · 03/03/2015 10:54

Rhubarb today's paper says "Poldark strips off his shirt to be racier than Mr Darcy". Can't wait Grin. cjwoof will be chomping at the bit!

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 10:55

Also looking forward to the new drama Banished on BBC2 Thursday night about the first convicts shipped off to Australia. Not a lot of male totty of CJ and AT standards but looks worthy of a watch.

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 10:57

I say Kez chomping's not the word gagging is AT is almost, almost giving me a CJ wobble

KeziaOAP · 03/03/2015 11:01

Lola presumably the prequel would cover their six months of training before deployment to Afghanistan. Wouldn't seem right without our girl Molly, although her 'prequel' was the one off Our Girl.

Rhubarb01 · 03/03/2015 11:05

Lola do we know if the prequel pitch was before or after this series was aired? I suppose it could fill in all the pre-Molly stuff with Rebecca and perhaps we might see her in a different light. It also struck me some time ago that aside from Molly we really know next to nothing about any of the other characters apart from Smurf. There must be a whole load of back stories about why each of the lads joined the army, their families, love lives etc. It would be interesting and a chance to bring poor old Smurf back - poignant in his case.

pixieg1rl · 03/03/2015 11:05

I think the whole point of OG was to show the army experience through MD, so it would have to jump the shark before they could refocus on another character.

I may be too influenced by ff but TG would need to find a subject to hang it on, be that a conflict/deployment or another challenge common to the army. Given that they need some goodwill and cooperation from the forces I doubt they would do anything too controversial like bullying or women in the frontline as it could be seen as too negative. If it were me I'd want to wait another year or so to give a chance for MD's career to move on, which would provide more scope for a story.

I can't help thinking TG should have written another series between the pilot and this one. This series would be a good conclusion to the story of Molly.

cjwoofwoof · 03/03/2015 11:06

Anything with CJ back in full combats would be very welcome indeed

KeziaOAP · 03/03/2015 11:17

pixie I agree if there's to be another series of OG then it would need to follow Molly's career, including, of course, her marrying CJ, him still being in the army perhaps training new recruits. Wishful thinking Hmm.

LolaKent14 · 03/03/2015 11:20

I think it was said a while ago that TG was pitching different ideas to the BBC. One of them was to focus on CJ and 2 Section due Lacey EE commitment. So I read into that the forming and training of 2 section before Afgan.

But if anything got confirmed now by the BBC we would not see it until next year even the year after as the cast are in plays as well as TV like Lacey.
