I think Carol is one of the most realistic and three-dimensional characters there is in any of the soaps and Lindsay Coulson who plays her is great. She had me in tears when Carol found out about Billy's death and the aftermath Sad

Mrsjayy · 11/04/2015 11:54

Yeah I think Danny Dyer put his all into it he was very good last night, i am getting a bit attached to Buster already i think he is going to a good character hope he stays, carol reminds me of my mum she just gets on with life

Jasonandyawegunorts · 11/04/2015 11:58

I think DD has realised that 99% of the time the episodes will never be seen again, you only have to act when you think the scene will show up somewhere else.

buddhasbelly · 11/04/2015 12:09

I hate/love when youtube clips of EE are put up - I seem to lose hours clicking on the next one and the next one...Grin

Harverina · 11/04/2015 12:55

I think he is getting better though so maybe he is just improving over time? I am forever the optimist though!!

Mrsjayy · 11/04/2015 14:33

I really fancied liked mick when he first came into it then he went all geezer and it was just watching Danny Dyer maybe he is going to be 1 of those characters that you will like then not.

RedCrayons · 11/04/2015 14:56

I still don't understand how mo was able to claim the money for kat. They'd have asked for i.d and its not like she is even the same age as kat.
she just phoned them up and told them to make the cheque payable to herself. As if that wasn't unrealistic enough, she had the money the next day! Because we all know how quick banks are to clear a cheque.

AGnu · 12/04/2015 01:03

I thought Billie died of alcohol poisoning, not choking - I'm sure there was a thing made out of the fact that it can be a one off binge as well as a slower accumulation.

The Mo's-money storyline was ridiculous - she sent off Kat's letter, stole & answered Kat's phone & then asked for it to be "put into Maureen Harris's account" but didn't give the account details! Hmm If it was in her account then I can't see why she felt the need to keep it all stuffed inside her mattress!

Stan's death has had me dreaming about my own grandfather dying. It happened 20 years ago, I was a child & didn't get to see him in hospital but I've been dreaming that he survived until I was an adult & I did get to visit him & get to know him. In a weird way the storyline has kind of given me closure but also made me feel sad that I never really did have that experience! Confused I didn't think his deterioration was overly dragged out - it often seems to happen quickly on TV but all but one of the people I've known who had cancer steadily deteriorated over months so I thought it was quite realistic in that way. It was well acted & I can see why they did the different music at the end but I'm getting a bit fed up with the special music any time anything happens. A few years ago they'd have just zoomed out from Shirley crying at his bedside in silence for a few seconds until the duff-duffs cut in. These days they seem to have different music any time any character leaves. It's getting a little tedious!

I'm not entirely sure that DD is completely to blame for his "acting" - the scriptwriters seem keen to over-emphasise his cockney-ness to the point that I feel I need a rhyming slang dictionary every time he opens his mouth! It's unnecessary & annoying.

Harverina · 12/04/2015 01:27

Yes I also thought it was alcohol poisoning.

Just watched last nights episode. Thought it was done really well. They really portrayed what it's like for family's I think - all waiting, coming and going etc. don't think they dragged it out either. I like that they do different music for characters that little bit special - I think the music was probably for both Jim and Stan tbh.

I think it's fairly common for horrible people to mellow in their old age. I know of a few older men to mellow when they have grandkids - their grandkids know them as being kind old men. Their children saw a very different side. So I think Jim's transformation is quite common - carols family don't understand how she is feeling right now because they saw a much nicer side than she every did growing up.

I agree mrsjay that the writers are encouraging all the cockney crap from Mick. It's ok in small doses but last night showed that it isn't necessary all the time. He was fab. I love him anyway so will say anything to back him up Blush

SoupDragon · 12/04/2015 07:07

I thought Danny Dyer was still shit and one dimensional. Wooden with added tears.

He is beginning to turn into a cockney caricature - which is odd as he is one. He wasn't this awful to start with was he?

Mrsjayy · 12/04/2015 08:38

Oh ok i thought he choked

RedCrayons · 12/04/2015 12:47

I thought he had choked but Wiki tells me he died if alcohol poisoning after Lauren gave him a bottle of vodka to drink.
I also remember it was when Alan Jackson came back for a bit and Carol shagged Billy's hot mate.

MagpieCursedTea · 13/04/2015 20:34

DS was making noise when Mick was doing his toast and I'm on holiday and addicted enough to watch EE without sky plus so can't rewind. What did he say about something inappropriate? The thing Patrick commented on?

CrapBag · 13/04/2015 21:02

It was an inappropriate joke that Stan told Johnny when he was younger.

MagpieCursedTea · 13/04/2015 21:52

Sorry I meant when they were in the bar and Mick was giving a toast. I think the bit about the joke was something Linda said to Mick upstairs. Unless it was spoken about twice? It may have been something about marriage?

AGnu · 13/04/2015 22:33

It was the joke - Mick wasn't sure what to say so started talking about nuns on a bus. Linda said it wasn't appropriate, Mick agreed it wasn't the best place & Patrick said there was never an appropriate place for that joke!

MagpieCursedTea · 13/04/2015 22:35

Ah that makes sense! Thank you both Smile

badRoly · 13/04/2015 22:40

After a marathon session, I've finally caught up with over a week of Eastenders! Blimey.

buddhasbelly · 13/04/2015 22:41

really? they're carrying on with the ronnie/roxy/charlie mess? I am surprised that Alex's ex wife has kept the same head though!

buddhasbelly · 13/04/2015 22:43

badroly I'm usually in on the nights EE is on tailors gym around EE but I sometimes feel like skipping it just so I can have a marathon catch up session looks up EE addictions helpline number

jkdnanny · 13/04/2015 23:11

I'd forgotten all about Ronnie. I think theres too many stories at the moment and its hard to keep up. I cant believe roxie is doing it to her sister again. Though Charlie and roxie are more suited than Charlie and Ronnie.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/04/2015 00:21

Power cut :( in Friday's episode. Must have missed the racist bit? What was that about?

OP posts:
Akire · 14/04/2015 00:25

I think it was carol called dad a racist old big it because he was very cruel when she got pregnant by a Blackman back in the day. Which has been picked up before years ago and once she had it out with him because there were pictures of all his grandkids but not billy in his home.

Akire · 14/04/2015 00:26

Did I miss the bit where Ronnie actual woke up? There seemed months of her not sure she was going make it, then an open eye moment now all of a sudden she's like talking?
