Columbo would have rocked up with a cigar and his old mac on, got them all together at the Vic and solved it all in an hour.
'.. just one more thing' - he was fab. and in the days before mobile phones and the internet..

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/02/2015 13:23

Columbo would have rocked up with a cigar and his old mac on, got them all together at the Vic and solved it all in an hour.

...Then asked where he could get a bust of queen Elizabeth just like the one at the Vic, but for a fraction of the price, because his nephew is a historian and it's his birthday....

.... and boy, His wife would love to visit a traditional English pub, you know just the other week, Mrs columbo probably told him about the traditional English pubs she saw on television.....

But you know, Since the digital switchover they don't get reception like they used to, so they have to listen to music, like from the music box back at the house!

LoveVintage · 20/02/2015 13:24

I really thought we'd see more in the flashback of what happened, body being moved, dumped, who else was involved etc. I wonder if they will show anything like that. So many questions!

shitebag · 20/02/2015 13:28

Is it possible when Bobby said "she started it" it wasn't actually an admission that he had done it but that she had started a fight with Denise earlier and she got hurt badly and now won't wake up? He phoned Jane because he couldn't tell Cindy or Ian in the house through fear of Denise hearing as he did after all watch/hear her fatally injure his much bigger and braver sister?!

Clutching at straws for a different ending here :o

LuluJakey1 · 20/02/2015 13:32

She might have collapsed on the floor after he went into the room. But what would he have said to Jane on the phone? I think he did something.

I do think it will end up as an amalgamation of all the thumps she got from lots of people and there will be no individual murderer.

LuluJakey1 · 20/02/2015 13:34

And why has he never said anything about it since? He knows Lucy was murdered? He can't come out of this squeaky clean!

ChoochiWoo · 20/02/2015 13:34

She was hardly black and blue , i cant imagine denise being particularly vicious either. ..aw jason its just hit me dot/june will probably be gone soon shes just turned 88 Sad will be a sad day,
....is Cathy Ians mum? ...if so how will that work, he looks older than her now.

MagpieCursedTea · 20/02/2015 13:35

Is tonight's episode going to have anymore flashback in it or is it just present time?

shitebag · 20/02/2015 13:38

Just present time judging by Sky sypnosis

tobee · 20/02/2015 13:39

Would have been good if Bobby had clobbered her with with an ashtray harking back to Saskia and Steve but I suppose that that wouldn't have fitted in other ways.

LucyBealesGhost · 20/02/2015 13:49

Billy nicked the folder of Lucy photos. I can't remember who from - it was a portfolio of proper pics, so maybe Jake did them? I assumed at the time he saw a potential cash opportunity in them, but she was killed straight after so he hid them (under the sink unit, being short in the intellect.)

I thought the same about "she started it", shitebag.

LucyBealesGhost · 20/02/2015 13:52

BTW, we have to remember that 'normal' and 'acceptable' have their own meaning in a community where everybody suffers a severe personality disorder Grin

Jasonandyawegunorts · 20/02/2015 13:55

I've just watched hour long episode again, I have to say the continuity people were excellent, not just the clothes and hair, but they managed to match the rain in most places too, for example Ian hair is soaking wet in the live scene when Peter confronts Denise, then we go inside the put, to a pre recorded scene, his hair is still wet, they anticipated rainful!
It’s not always that good, you get Phil meeting Cathy in the rain then Kim in the ambulance completely dry, but it mostly matches.

LucyBealesGhost · 20/02/2015 14:05

Agreed about the continuity, Jason :) There were loads of little things I picked up on for no reason, and they'd matched nearly all of them.

I've got to say I'm not going with all this poor Ian, such bad luck, etc. It's his fault Lucy was screwed up, his fault he can't hold a relationship, his fault he has enemies. He's a selfish, self-aggrandising twat! The writers did try to bring this out during the murder episodes, but of course Woodyatt's grabbed his acting opportunities with both hands so our tendency is to empathise with the character.

If two of his sons and his brother are murderous psychopaths, I'd say that's genetically logical!

So we still DON'T KNOW ?

Candycandle · 20/02/2015 14:40

I don't think we know everything. I think it'll be more layered than an onion in the end. I personally think Bobby and Lucy were fighting over lots of different things as siblings do, maybe lucy had gone into her bedroom to get her jewellery box and Bobby decides to confront her. They fight, he snatches the box off her not knowing what it contains. Lucy and him grapple. She slips on the blanket maybe ( or he might push her) she hits her head and then we have a dead lucy. Jane turns up and Bobby says in a child-like way "she deserved it" just like kids do when they have a fight - not comprehending she's dead.

Also, LOL @ denny. Where the chuff is he!?!

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2015 15:04

Kathy must have married young, peter her first hubby was a lot older. Ian was a teenager in 85 but somehow it didnt look odd kathy being his mum. Ian was an only child.
She has lost a lot of weight, she was never big but seemed more curvy than now. I always thought she was too glam to work n a stall and in a pub.
Denny, where is that boy? He was evil once too

shitebag · 20/02/2015 15:18

I googled Kathy's age of when Ian was born but couldn't find it, however Gillian is 60?! Shock

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2015 15:19

Lucy, i agree about Ian. He went with Rainie whilst with Denise, he is weak and been a coward in the past. He left Lucy to it when he had his breakdown ( and Bobby too) he was vile to laura and lied to Mel (another poor wife) about lucy having cancer so she would marry him. He bullied pat over money (he was a money lender in the past) i could go on. He may not have murdered anyone, but his actions have been terrible over the years. No wonder Cindy snr tried to have hm shot once..

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 20/02/2015 15:28

I thought Kathy did look great yesterday, comparing well to Sharon who would be the same age as Ian. Being away from the square has suited her!

Papyrus02 · 20/02/2015 15:41

In the first episode yesterday Ian said to Mick that he didn't need to go looking for the murderer because the murderer would find him (or words to that effect). I assumed that's why he went to the cafe, but then he went back home to find the murderer in his house. Either that means something (and we'll find out tonight) or it's rubbish writing.

It's been troubling me. I suppose it could be that he means Jane came back to him....

jkdnanny · 20/02/2015 16:20

The thing is is Gillian is only 13yrs older than Adam. And he looks his age but Gillian looks much younger.

LoveVintage · 20/02/2015 16:24

Why on earth did Ian go looking for a prostitute anyway?

The80sweregreat · 20/02/2015 16:34

Yes, then to find Rainie, the only prostitute working that night. Cant believe kathy is 60, looks younger. It was silly having her as mum to ian then. It just didnt look that bad in 85!
