It's back on Thursday! here. No details of contestants yet. How many men this time? Any?

Ten sewers, six weeks, can't wait!

(Can't think of another word for sewers at the moment, wish I could!)

I follow Amanda's blog. She's a good sewer but I don't think she understands what suits her. Her style is just not quite right for her and yet I'm in awe of her sewing skills

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 20:51

I think Alex is out this week.

BOFster · 12/02/2015 20:51

Oh, that little cupcake girl looks really disappointed Sad

AnneEyhtMeyer · 12/02/2015 20:51

Evening Rous and everyone!

Had big internet problems so haven't been able to be on the thread tonight and I've missed you all.

Flapper dress lady is in trouble I think. Although I'd prefer plaster-cast lady to go.

dillite · 12/02/2015 20:53

The elephant is really good. How on earth will they decide who wins?

BOFster · 12/02/2015 20:54

Yay, they liked Amanda's.

dillite · 12/02/2015 20:55

Amanda has a sewing blog? Do you have a link?

I agree, Alex will probably be out this week.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 20:55

Lorna's bird is great :)

Halsall · 12/02/2015 20:55

LOL at the little mouse on the elephant's leg - they didn't mention it, though!

bluelamp · 12/02/2015 20:58

Yes, garment of the week well deserved.

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 20:58

The elephant deserved that I think.

SunnyL · 12/02/2015 20:58

Both Amanda and Alex have blogs. Here is Amanda's aebgledhill.com/2015/02/11/gbsb-episode-1/

SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 20:58

Alex had the skill but not the time management.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 12/02/2015 21:02

Yay! Plaster-cast lady has gone!

dillite · 12/02/2015 21:05

That was a very well deserved win.

Roussette · 12/02/2015 21:50

Just got back from my meeting and going to watch on catch up (if it's on there yet) whilst reading your comments!

Watched it 10 minutes behind so had to avoid this thread earlier! Loved Ryan's work this week. And army man. Who is the sophisticated tall blonde lady? Can't remember her name but thought she came across brilliantly this week (personality wise), 2nd, 2nd an amazing fancy dress outfit as well!
I was worried it wouldn't love up to the great characters of the last series, but even DH had to admit he was getting sucked in Grin.

Roussette · 12/02/2015 21:59

Oh I do love this programme, after the stressful day I've had it's very welcome, and yes I think Patrick's beard is coming back wooohooo!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 12/02/2015 22:32

Tall Blonde is Lorna.

barkingtreefrog · 12/02/2015 22:39

Of course! Thanks soup Smile

Roussette · 12/02/2015 22:52

Phew! Alex has gone, she seemed so disappointed.

Loved the elephant costume it was fab!

Smile

Watching this has made today's dross just disappear, marvellous!

The elephant was lovely. I have just realised though that with many of these the made-to-measure aspect could take a bit of a back seat here. After all, the difficult bit with the elephant, say, must surely be the 3D parts like the ears and trunk and that could be practised endlessly at home as it would not be affected by the size of the model. The part that had to be made to fit the little boy was probably relatively easy.

BTW - they call it 3D costumes but I would like to see anyone trying to make them in 2D!

Roussette · 13/02/2015 08:05

Yes 5foot the body of the costume is a piece of cake because after all Patrick and May weeren't checking seams of say the ellie costume body, it was all about the ears and trunk!

I did think the flapper costume was not really 3D, yes it was a lovely outfit for a little girl, and yes the hat was full on, but I dont feel it matched the brief. but what do I know!

Quenelle I've just looked up that pattern which Neil did last week and think that it's an out of print Vogue pattern - www.sewdirect.com/acatalog/Vogue-8900.html However, I have to say that I think that Neil executed it better than the picture from Vogue! It's an 'Easy' Vogue pattern, so provided you follow the instructions carefully you should be all right!

lurkerspeaks · 14/02/2015 16:36

Found you!

My friends don't do sewing so I'll see you next week!

I think Lorna/Neil are the ones to watch. I've warmed to Neela, Deborah and Ryan. I just want to scream at Amanda that it is the 2015 and she needs to update her wardrobe!

Deborah is a big presence in sewing blog world but I can't find it again.

Every year this programme makes me think I should try dressmaking!
