Have started a new one

OP posts:
ssd · 09/02/2015 10:35

I think there are family feuds or debts they dont mention in a lot of cases

to me, emigration is for young folk or young families, not a lot of these families always fit that

shakemysilliesout · 09/02/2015 10:35

Just caught up. Btw this is really morbid.

I think they didn't take in that they might never seem family again. Which is a reality when u move that bit older. The sad truth is you end up next traveling back for a funeral.

It was weird they didn't mention his grown up daughter more.

He will die before her, I think she will feel isolated when that happens.

I think she may resent him seeing the children so much more than her.

I think they want to travel home for a visit/ go home permanently but can't afford it. 40k!!!!!!!

I don't get why they didn't switch it up in the uk more. People on this show are so extreme! It's always sahm to full time work or vice versa. With his pension they could have been really creative in uk finding a good balance.

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 09/02/2015 10:52

She was the one who kept mentioning the grown up daughter, he didn't refer to her at all. I think she will be massively stressed and resentful of 50 hour working weeks (she has my commute really now, but that won't be the case forever as this project will finish) whilst he does 10 hours with the children in school.

ssd · 09/02/2015 10:53

yes, they always seem really surprised that their mum and dad wont be next door anymore and the kids wont see gran all the time

why is that so surprising??!!

are the folk on this just incredibly daft??

shakemysilliesout · 09/02/2015 10:57

I think people say 'o we'll visit for a whole month etc'and it never happens. I think people get caught up in the excitement/novelty/ planning.

PestoSnowissimos · 09/02/2015 11:01

I was wondering, why, when you've just overspent on moving costs by £20k, would you then buy yourself a herd of cows & a pony? Confused

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 09/02/2015 11:24

OMG - I've got PMT and am howling at this.

What a nice thing to do with the letters to the neighbours but I feel so sad for Grace and Laura. And it's very hard for the mum. The children are adorable.

I just don't understand why they made this move.

ssd · 09/02/2015 11:26

I dont either, esp as the grandparents are all so old and will need help soon

wierd wierd wierd

LegsOfSteel · 09/02/2015 11:32

She was commuting from Auckland to Darwin! Wtf.

JoanHickson · 09/02/2015 11:33

Maybe they don't want to help the parents? I would not be keen caring for his Dad for two reasons. He sounds selfish and is heavy looking.

Bakeoffcakes · 09/02/2015 11:34

I also wondered about the money side of things. They said they'd overspent by £20,000 by moving and had no money. They then got a mortgage, how the heck did that happen without a deposit and money for fees etc.

JoanHickson · 09/02/2015 11:41

They budgeted £20,000 my guess is they had more available and were cross they dipped into another pot.

Did they sell the UK home or keep it as a rental?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 09/02/2015 11:43

I think the DH will have opted for a lump sum on retirement as part of his pension

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 09/02/2015 11:46

They kept the uk home and rented it out

shakemysilliesout · 09/02/2015 12:00

Maybe they had to dip in to children's savings or something.

LegsOfSteel · 09/02/2015 12:28

I suspect the Darwin job paid a load of money which is why she took it. That covered the overspend in relocation costs.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 10/02/2015 09:25

another one who has a DREAM- but has only seen it on Neighbours never been

Hmm
Horsemad · 10/02/2015 09:26

Anyone watching today? OMG this woman is irritating Angry

loveliesbleeding1 · 10/02/2015 09:29

Yes, she is almost evangelical about somewhere she hasn't even visited.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 10/02/2015 09:30

this is a bit ridic

it's all like OOH A POOL

everywhere I go for a week on hol, I want to stay too

they could do a series at centerparcs

Cherrypie32 · 10/02/2015 09:31

Hubby could be the eldest child and she talks to him like a son

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 10/02/2015 09:32

there must be more to it

they said at the beginning she had been ill for three weeks, and from there the DREAM was born

that's three weeks, not months, so am guessing is more serious than it appears?

loveliesbleeding1 · 10/02/2015 09:32

He is annoying me with his man cave too.

wobblebobblehat · 10/02/2015 09:33

I thought that, Cherry. It's obvious who is going to be steam rollered into going...

WilsonWilsonWoman · 10/02/2015 09:34

his bangles are irritating me.
