Thread number one.

So are we all still watching, despite the mumbling, bad writing and inaccuracies?

I'm not sure what ClaireGwen is up to, but they've written her to like kinky sex which in telly land means she's a bad un.

Last night's highlight for me was DH's genuine confusion over whether subtitles were for the hearing impaired or vision impaired (he may have had a couple of beers). Also sweaty Lee hammering in fence posts.

Has that junior solicitor fella been in something on CBBC?

When does The Missing season 2 start?

After ep 1 I concluded my investigation into the death of granny lizzie.

The actress who played her took a look at the script and said she'd rather play an ugly sister at the local am-dram xmas panto. As the gran of the murdered boy she would be expected to be around at the courts etc so they wrote her out as dead.
Omg I just cracked it.
The reason this plot is so haywire is that the granny dunnit and they've had to rewrite the story without the actual murderer.

Aimey · 16/02/2015 23:16

Am I alone in thinking Tom killed Danny, and Dad was covering up for him (but can't face jail as he genuinely didn't do it)? [Or have I missed you all saying this pages back?]

hollyisalovelyname · 16/02/2015 23:25

I think Tom did it too.

whothehellknows · 16/02/2015 23:39

Them bastards.

LucasNorthsTwiglets · 16/02/2015 23:42

I'm so confused by this series :( I think I didn't concentrate on a relevant bit a few weeks ago and now I've gone beyond following it. Can anyone help take me back to basics?! Why is this Thorpe Industries (or whatever it's called) relevant? I remember seeing DT and OC walking around their premises but how did the company come into the story in the first place?
The 2 girls - one is dead and one is missing, is that right? (Pippa & Lisa - which one is which?) The guy who was in the office with the bluebell picture - is he the dad of the girl who died?

And WTF was the speech tonight between DT and OC about - "that was the lie! Someone only knew that Thorpe was stalking her because of something!" DH and I didn't get a word of that.

whothehellknows · 17/02/2015 00:24

Ok, a few weeks ago, OC decided she was going to help DT solve Sandbrook. So whilst he was having a heart attack on the beach (and toddler Fred was playing for hours with a board book) OC stayed up looking through all the Sandbrook files. She found a note about Thorpe Agriculture Services scribbled on the back of a bit of paper and decided to follow it up. That's how they found the service. (I'm not sure whether Lee may have written the note when he nicked DT's sandbrook files)

Pippa is the young girl who was found in the water. Lisa is the older cousin who was never found. The man in the office with the bluebell photo is Ricky Gillespie, Pippa's dad.

The speech was a little bit garbled, but basically DT remembered asking Lee Ashworth about Thorpe Agriculture, and Lee had reacted- i.e. he knew it was something significant. But Lee would have had no reason to know that the name Thorpe was important UNLESS Lisa had told him about Thorpe stalking her. So Lee was closer to Lisa than he made out.

And then after DT spoke to him, we saw a flashback to Lee's reflection in the window of the furnace...

slightlyworriednc · 17/02/2015 00:24

THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT WHO DID IT

Joe did it. We saw him do it.
I've only lurked so far on this thread, but it's making me want to bang my head against a wall.

I feel we should have a separate thread for people who haven't seen/don't remember series 1.

VeronicaCaCa · 17/02/2015 07:05

Grin Yes Joe did it - move on people.

Bakeoffcake · 17/02/2015 07:27

Are you a prosecution barrister SlightlyWorried? Wink

katese11 · 17/02/2015 07:40

I'm starting to think he'll get off...Then S3 will be about him moving back to broadchurch (cause he would totally do that Hmm)

hackmum · 17/02/2015 07:42

Wel, Joe DID do it. I don't see how they can change that now. We saw it in the first series. If the jury delivers a guilty verdict, that will tie up that storyline, though it will have rendered the whole thing pointless, so I assume they will deliver a not guilty verdict so we can have a bit more mileage out of it. Perhaps someone will turn up some crucial evidence in the last episode so they can try him again (double jeopardy having been abolished in this country). Or perhaps confronted with the evidence he will kill himself.

Lisa, I would guess, is in France - have always assumed she is still alive so will be surprised if it turns out she isn't. I imagine she, Claire and Lee are all sharing a secret - possibly Lisa killed Pippa and Claire and Lee are covering up for her, possibly for some dodgy sexual reasons.

That's my best guess anyway.

Could lisa be claire and lee's daughter who was given up for adoption because they were teenagers when she was born? Maybe lisa hated pippa because she was jealous of her for some reason related to this?

hollyisalovelyname · 17/02/2015 08:17

What did Lee say to Clare before she took off from the beach ?
Why did DT want Clare in court ?
He certainly manhandled her - why did she not object ?

LifeOfBriony · 17/02/2015 08:23

I also think that Tom knows more than he is saying. I was expecting something to come up about Tom deleting emails from his computer.

Am glad the jury asked for a photo if the view of the car park from the hut, I was just about to post about that when they asked.

Also agree with Jocelyn - if Joe were innocent he would want to defend himself. Unless he is covering for Tom, who did it, which is plausible (just) but unlikely.

I hope it is resolved next week, I don't think Broadchurch is strong enough to stand another series.

HoraceCope · 17/02/2015 08:25

just why is it relevant about barrister and journalist ladies, did they really need to kiss

Wdigin2this · 17/02/2015 08:51

So glad I found this thread! I didn't watch the first series, but it was so bigged up in the media, I was determined to watch this one...well I tried for the first two eps, but I just cannot understand half of what is being said! What with David Tennant's accent, that actress with the permanently screwed up face, and most of the others either talking through gritted teeth or mumbling their lines as they turn away/wearily rubbing hands over faces/speak without actually opening their mouths...it's just too much like hard work, so I've given up! Anyone else???

whothehellknows · 17/02/2015 09:00

With the jury's questions, I felt like they were trying to rule out the theory that Mark could have done it. It was a pretty shit theory anyway.

Sure, Mark may have been 50 metres from the murder scene. But why would a guy who's about to leave his wife to murder his son for discovering an affair. Also, in that scenario WTF would Danny have been doing up in the caravan in the first place? He just happened to wander up in the middle of the night into a location where he could see his dad's mistress and be murdered?

I reckon they'll find him not guilty and S3 will focus on Sandbrook (which claire has conveniently dragged through to broadchurch and asked Rev Rory for sanctuary) and the myriad ways the community is still fucked by what Joe did.

PatterofaMinion · 17/02/2015 09:02

Right I don't know WHERE the f they are going with this. It's either guilty or not guilty but we have NO reason to suspect any alternative scenario, as no effort has been put into the actual Broadchurch murder this series so what's the point in dragging it out? Nothing's changed.

If he's going for Mark having done it, that's bullshit because it's not like the jury will say Not Guilty and THIS IS WHY, is it? They will just say no we can't be satisfied it can be proven to have been Joe.

FFS

Regarding Sandbrook I just don't even care who did that though Ricky is clearly suspicious as I said last week.

Claire's fairly unbalanced and Lee is a dick. We knew that though.

I don't want to bother with next week's, I mean last series the last ep was shite. He just pulled it out of a hat.

PatterofaMinion · 17/02/2015 09:03

Who was it predicted the lesbian kiss last week? Well you were bang on there Grin

I now fancy Maggie more than Jocelyn though.

HoraceCope · 17/02/2015 09:14

i dont understand why Mark even told them he sat in his car planning to leave his wife Confused, that has annoyed me,
and where is olivia's toddler,
and why did mark and beth bring baby to court

Yes we do know that Joe did it. It wasn't a dramatisation of his confession, it was a clear flashback.

Grin I'm not a prosecution barrister, I'm just going crazy! My MIL last night asked if we thought Joe really did it... YES!
