...before the previous thread here rolls off a cliff.

Someone wanted a character list. I have, with a bit of help from Wiki, come up with:
The Mighty Carrie
Quinn aka Woopert. Most of us definitely would, despite the resemblance to a ferret.
Lockhart - once hated, now we have some grudging respect.
Saul - all that is right and good in the world, with a passing resemblance to Life of Brian man who hasn't spoken in years.
Dar Adul aka Salieri - what's happened to him?
Fara - once an IT fraud geek, now an intrepid hands-on agent who doesn't keep enough of an eye on her bin bags.
Martha, the nice ambassador
Denis, her nefarious husband
John, second in command at CIA Lahore HQ, we're warming to him
Aayan aka Pi, now sailing the heavenly oceans with a tiger
Sandy, former CIA chief, now pushing up the daisies
Aasar Khan, aka Raza, aka Hot Spooks Guy
Bunran Latif, the General, aka Art Malik
Haqqani, the craggy Taliban leader who prefers to shag next to a bearded man chained to a radiator
Tasleen, aka one of the Kardashians.

Have I missed anyone?

I know I'm thick but what's in the video? Saul being captured?

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 28/12/2014 22:19

They've not written the next series by the look of things. The Kardashian one lives on (she must've impressed to get a new contract) & the spooks bloke (whose name escapes me) should be renewed as well. Just because.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 28/12/2014 22:21

I feel so deflated. Sad that really was not acceptable as a season finale. I demand a do-over! Angry

Hassled · 28/12/2014 22:22

I'm presuming the video is the one Haqqani made where he showed Saul as prisoner and demanded the prisoner exchange thing. There was nothing made of that having been released to the general public at the time, and the US presumably wouldn't have wanted to make public that they released Taliban Central in exchange for former CIA chief.

CoolCadbury · 28/12/2014 22:24

Well, that was unexpected, but not in a good way. Actually reminded me how slow the pace was at the beginning of the series - it went right back there. Yawn.

Poor Quinn. Thinks Carrie does not love him so he's gone on what looks like a suicide mission. When they kissed and said goodbye by the car, I thought oh, he's going to die and was half expecting the car to blow up to be honest with you.

I assume the video wasn't of Haqqani having nuptials with his wife as Saul watched? Grin

Marlinspike · 28/12/2014 22:26

Hmm. I have loved this series, but that was a tad anticlimactic for my liking. The whole thing went a bit flabby IMHO. Security is a bit slack at Salieri's gaff if Carrie can just go swanning up his very long drive, and the very thought that she might be able to call Quinn and commit to him whilst he's shooting up IS in Syria is bonkers! Hoping for the return of Zaf in the next series....

OttiliaVonBCup · 28/12/2014 22:26

Oh!
Not a threesome?

Hassled · 28/12/2014 22:27

I've just read a US review where they say that the bundle of letters Quinn handed to the new guy at the end had one addressed to Carrie. I missed that completely.

CoolCadbury · 28/12/2014 22:29

The best thing about that show was the sister's hairdo and Dar Adal's house.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/12/2014 22:29

Yup, the top one was to Carrie.

CoolCadbury · 28/12/2014 22:30

Yes, it said Carrie Matthison on the envelope. I guess the cliff hanger on that story is if he is going to make it out alive?

TheSpottedZebra · 28/12/2014 22:32

Also - that letter was a dressed I very feminine handwriting.

Also also, I thought when Quinn was shown back that the motel, that we'd see him with motel boss; I liked her. Thought maybe they'd shag, then Quinn would tell her he loved Carrie and he'd set off to find her.

Also also also -agree re Dar Adal's house. Even his front door was magnificent.

Cocolepew · 28/12/2014 22:32

Huh. Just finished it. Bit if an anti climax. I kept expecting a car to blow up or someone to be shot.

I said to DH that the sister looked like Sheryl Crow and he snorted at me Hmm

deadwitchproject · 28/12/2014 22:33

Cannot believe I rearranged things and watched it in real time tonight. I was convinced Quinn's car had been tampered with (by Dar Adal) after Carrie's dad's wake and she would walk back to the house, then boom.

Cannot believe I was actually hoping someone, anyone, would get shot, blown up, taken hostage etc. etc. anything to stop me falling asleep. Pfft.

I'm off to bed.

Cocolepew · 28/12/2014 22:33

Im coveting sister sheryls house.

Lagoonablue · 28/12/2014 22:33

I liked it. What did you want? That mission had ended and they were tying up loose ends. Quinn gone off as thinks Carrie spurned him, having left her a letter should he die on this mission. Carrie left alone again after fucking it up with Peter.

The addition of her mum was a bit of a waste of time I agree. Saul wants back in and has agreed to Dals bargaining with Haaquani. The video was of him captured by the Taliban.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/12/2014 22:34

Coco, LTB.

CoolCadbury · 28/12/2014 22:34

spotted that's how they write in the States - cursive, quite old fashioned writing. When I was there they kept thinking my r was a v because they write r the old fashioned way.

TheSpottedZebra · 28/12/2014 22:34

Sheryl's kitchen!

Drool.

diddl · 28/12/2014 22:36

So, Saul has gone over to the Dar side!

It was an odd one.

Wonder how much of it was driven by it being a tribute to James Rebhorn?

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 28/12/2014 22:37

I think sister Sheryl must have moved house because that isn't the same front door/drive/garden that she had before.

CoolCadbury · 28/12/2014 22:37

Personally, I thought it would have ended quite dramatically in Pakistan - feel a bit put out that we did not see Col. Khan again. Unfinished business there.

Cocolepew · 28/12/2014 22:41

I think I might Zebra, he's obviously my intellectual inferior.

I didn't dislike it, it just seemed very sedate all of a sudden.

Is the next series going torbe a direct follow on do you think?

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 28/12/2014 22:42

I don't think saul has gone to the Dar side at all. I think he is playing the long game (much like brody had to) and knows taking this deal now is the only way to get his foot back in the door and stand any chance of having any control or power over what happens. it's still team saul and carrie AFAIC

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 28/12/2014 22:44

It just made no sense for Dar to be in a car with Haqanni at the end of the last episode, with Zaf seemingly knowing something about what was going on, no debrief with Carrie, no Carrie interrogation of Zaf to get an idea as to what was happening, no explanation as to how Quinn got out unscathed seeing as he was public enemy no 1 with the Pakistan security forces, no explanation how Dar got from Haqanni to back home, again unscathed/uneventful & basically no idea what the hell that was all about & what it all might lead onto in the next series.

Piss poor ending. Christ, I'm starting to see the Dexter finale as better than that, & that was utterly pants too.
