...before the previous thread here rolls off a cliff.

Someone wanted a character list. I have, with a bit of help from Wiki, come up with:
The Mighty Carrie
Quinn aka Woopert. Most of us definitely would, despite the resemblance to a ferret.
Lockhart - once hated, now we have some grudging respect.
Saul - all that is right and good in the world, with a passing resemblance to Life of Brian man who hasn't spoken in years.
Dar Adul aka Salieri - what's happened to him?
Fara - once an IT fraud geek, now an intrepid hands-on agent who doesn't keep enough of an eye on her bin bags.
Martha, the nice ambassador
Denis, her nefarious husband
John, second in command at CIA Lahore HQ, we're warming to him
Aayan aka Pi, now sailing the heavenly oceans with a tiger
Sandy, former CIA chief, now pushing up the daisies
Aasar Khan, aka Raza, aka Hot Spooks Guy
Bunran Latif, the General, aka Art Malik
Haqqani, the craggy Taliban leader who prefers to shag next to a bearded man chained to a radiator
Tasleen, aka one of the Kardashians.

Have I missed anyone?

I found it very flat. Disappointing too. Where was the huge cliffhanger?

Hassled · 29/12/2014 17:20

donnie - I think you're right - I think there was a family somewhere.

Having got over my initial sense of anti-climax, the episode has grown on me a bit. I probably would have been fine with it had the previous episodes not been quite as tense and gripping - it had a lot to live up to.

Anyway - it's been a blast, so here's a thank-you T shirt to keep you all going till next year.

T Shirt link fail. Should say #Quinning

I just saw that T shirt on the homeland Facebook page. Grin

Very disappointing final episode, I agree with the poster who said they should have made last weeks the final. However I liked the fact that the producers acknowledged the real life death of Carrie's on screen Dad by incorporating it into the show. But I do prefer Homeland when we focus upon the terrorists.

donnie · 29/12/2014 18:54

Oh gosh, so the actor died? I hadn't realised that. In that case I like the final episode even more. How nice that they all acknowledged him in that way.

I didn't think much of the mother finally appearing - bit of a clunky metaphor there, with the Carrie parallels and all, but overall the character development was brilliant: the little bit where Lockhart turns up with a lasagne and makes a move to leave, but Carrie asks him to stay. At first he asks for a beer but then reconsiders and says I'll have the same as you guys - sheer brilliance.

Also I must confess to having a massive crush on Rupert Friend. If he dies in the next series It'll be awful Shock. He is tons more interesting than Brody.

noddyholder · 29/12/2014 18:56

I loved this episode it was so gentle in contrast to what everyone expects a big explosive finale I loved the way it showed how people even in the most exciting/dangerous careers and situations still have to juggle the mundanities and stresses of life and family too. I found it quite moving

oneowlgirl · 29/12/2014 19:28

Had it not been the finale, then id agree with you noddy, but given it was the season finale, really did expect more - not necessarily explosions, but tensions & drama & edge of seat feeling.

I actually think that it would be a good ending if it were the end of the entire show, in that, life (as mundane as it is) still goes on & people still try to get the bad guys (Quinn) but as a season finale, it was just dull dull dull!

TheFirstOfHerName · 29/12/2014 20:11

About to start watching last night's episode. Finally managed to find this thread (which I had hidden for fear of spoilers). Will attempt to scroll back a few pages and read in a +23h timeframe.

TheFirstOfHerName · 29/12/2014 21:07

OK: the whole timing thing with Quinn & Carrie was quite touching, especially when we saw that he had addressed his NoK letter to her. Generally though, the episode was a bit of a non-event compared to previous season finales.

OneSkinnyChip · 29/12/2014 22:39

Swimming against the tide here but I really liked it. I admit I did keep gnawing on my nails waiting for assassins or car bombs or baby thieves but it definitely got me intrigued over where the next season would go.

Anyway it's been a pleasure y'all. See you in Oct 2015 Wink Wine

CQ · 29/12/2014 23:14

Just watched it. Very slow.

Best bit about it was seeing Quinn SMILE

Bereft now.

Blu · 30/12/2014 08:45

It was nail biting when she was finding out that she could love and be loved, at the very moment that Quinn.assumed she was running away. The whole series has been about people re evaluating themselves and their lives.

It was like the ending of Tess of the D'Urbervillesxand the letter that never arrived.

Will Carrie really leave Frannie again after pledging to take her father's place, publicly , at his funeral? And after confronting her own mother about abandonment? S'pose she can take a Langley based job and help Quinn.

northender · 30/12/2014 09:29

I enjoyed it although ds spent the whole episode saying "something's gonna happen now" but it never did! I suppose it's what I was expecting because the other season finales have been a bit like that ie not the nail biting action, more tying up loose ends and setting the scene for the next series

EElisavetaofJingleBellsornia · 30/12/2014 09:44

The bit where Carrie was heading off to find her mum with the baby, and her sister says, can Frannie stay? and Carrie just hands her over!! WHAT ABOUT HER STUFF? No way does any parent, even Carrie go across several States without a bag of nappies, wipes, spare clothes, bib, lidded cup, special plate and spoon, books, toys....in RL if Frannie was staying behind there would be a massive exercise in removing her luggage, with both sisters frantically searching for The-Special-Teddy-Without-Which-The-Child-Will-Not-Sleep, which has fallen under a seat, whilst Frannie cries and shouts "Teddy!" in heartbroken tones. Tell me this is not only my life?

RudeBarbandCustard · 30/12/2014 11:35

EE that's exactly what DP said 'where's all the baby's stuff?' and we don't even have DCs!

I think the whole point of the mother in the plot was for Carrie to realise that her father's bipolar disorder was not the reason her parent's relationship broke down. Hence dawning realization that Carrie herself can find love too... but too little too late for Quinn.

I totally thought it would end with Quinn getting killed out on his mission, breaking Carrie's heart once more. So I'm glad that didn't happen.

All in all, I enjoyed the character development, but felt a bit flat for a finale. Especially the final scene... it just sort of fizzled out!

RudeBarbandCustard · 30/12/2014 11:38

Oh and something that has been bugging me.

Carrie said 'how could a mother walk out on her kids like that' but then they said their mother left 15 years ago... so Carrie must have been, what, 20?? Hardly a kid was she?

Hardly the same as abandoning your new baby to fuck off and pursue your high flying career is it?!

Cocolepew · 30/12/2014 12:33

I have a bad feeling about Quinns survival… they won't kill him off surely?

OttiliaVonBCup · 30/12/2014 13:38

I've been thinking about the episode, and I like it better now that I know no shootings or bombs or anything of the sort will happen.

They can't kill off Quinn, they did kill off Brodie, surely lightning won't strike twice.

Also we had Saul as hostage, so they won't do that again, I hope.
No, only possible way is for Quinn to come back.

Blu · 30/12/2014 16:33

She (and us) will think him dead, get to read the letter, and then up he will pop, unshaven, unwashed, scarred, but alive! (But meanwhile Carrie will have sought solace with Max). (And Zaf). (And Dennis, but as part of a play to get to the bottom of corruption in Islamabad).

Cocolepew · 30/12/2014 16:40

I think he be MIA, but he will really be stealthy crawling around Islamabad doing black ops type stuff .
Carrie will shag Zaf and kill Astrid the Blonde Quinn Shagger.
The Kardashian wl end up ruling the world and marry Saul, for he is a bad 'un too..

HalleLouja · 30/12/2014 16:50

I read something saying they won't be going back to Pakistan.

NeedaDiscoNap · 30/12/2014 16:59

I thought the same thing about the baby's stuff. DH got cross with me because I kept wittering on about it and talking over the episode! Grin

Cocolepew · 30/12/2014 17:05

What!? Where are they going then?

HalleLouja · 30/12/2014 17:50

Here
