...before the previous thread here rolls off a cliff.

Someone wanted a character list. I have, with a bit of help from Wiki, come up with:
The Mighty Carrie
Quinn aka Woopert. Most of us definitely would, despite the resemblance to a ferret.
Lockhart - once hated, now we have some grudging respect.
Saul - all that is right and good in the world, with a passing resemblance to Life of Brian man who hasn't spoken in years.
Dar Adul aka Salieri - what's happened to him?
Fara - once an IT fraud geek, now an intrepid hands-on agent who doesn't keep enough of an eye on her bin bags.
Martha, the nice ambassador
Denis, her nefarious husband
John, second in command at CIA Lahore HQ, we're warming to him
Aayan aka Pi, now sailing the heavenly oceans with a tiger
Sandy, former CIA chief, now pushing up the daisies
Aasar Khan, aka Raza, aka Hot Spooks Guy
Bunran Latif, the General, aka Art Malik
Haqqani, the craggy Taliban leader who prefers to shag next to a bearded man chained to a radiator
Tasleen, aka one of the Kardashians.

Have I missed anyone?

Yes, I thought that too.... Also agree there would have been more marines protecting the place.

So - Carrie and Quinn take the lot of them on?!

hattymattie · 15/12/2014 18:18

Does anybody know if there is another series or are Carrie and Quinn going up in a blaze of glory?

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 18:20

Its looking that way rooners.

Roonerspism · 15/12/2014 18:22

I think there is to be another series but don't want to google in case there are spoilers!

My mum is still convinced Brodie is alive and will appear properly. Kind of hope not tbh.

Cocolepew · 15/12/2014 18:49

Ha! I'm not alone in my suspicions of Saul. I did waver for a couple of weeks and thought I was wrong but I'm back distrusting him again

hattymattie · 15/12/2014 19:02

I like it without Brodie now - loving the strong female lead.

By the way - Saul is good.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 19:08

My mum is still convinced Brodie is alive and will appear properly.

Me too Blush i really want him back!

I am also for the first time ever, doubting Saul's allegiances. I really hope he is all good but it would be a brilliant storyline if he was another brody. I think it would actually be good to show just how complicated the whole situation is and that a lot of people are neither all good or all bad but just trying to do what they think is right in difficult circumstances.

Ive been rewatching the whole show from season one and the conclusion i have come to is that brody was between a rock and a hard place at every turn and basically did whatever it took to keep himself alive at that moment in time, sometimes that meant doing CIA's bidding and sometimes the taliban's. He needed them both to think he was on their sides otherwise he was a goner.

Nancy66 · 15/12/2014 19:10

hasn't Damien Lewis confirmed that the 'dream' sequence is his only appearance and he's definitely dead?

GypsyFloss · 15/12/2014 19:21

Cocolepew I think it's been only us two Saul doubters right from the beginning Xmas Grin

Yes Why I agree with you about Saul. I think he has made decisions that are bad, he even stated that he had done bad things when he was threatening to shoot himself. Once of my biggest doubts about him is why he was supervising the at-sea burial of the original baddy whilst Langley was bombed. I can't get over just how handy that was!

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 19:32

Abu Nazir? I think the burial has to be witnessed doesnt it? Perhaps not. Although Saul seems like a very respectful type and i can see him wanting to make sure it was carried out properly with respect to Nazir's religion. Or perhaps the CIA just felt it appropriate to have a representative present and Saul volunteered?

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 19:36

I dont think saul was in on the langley bombing. Carrie was there. He would never have let her go if he knew it was happening. Unless he and brody had agrees that brody would get carrie to leave at the right time but then that implicates brody and we know brody didnt plant the bomb. Although he didnt have to plant it to know about it. Confused

GypsyFloss · 15/12/2014 19:37

Oh yeah I get that it had to be witnessed. It was just handy that Saul was miles away when the bombing happened...

GypsyFloss · 15/12/2014 19:39

And Brody did get her to leave at the right time so it seems like it might have known about " something" but not necessarily what.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 19:41

Damnit i hate these loose ends!! Grin

GypsyFloss · 15/12/2014 19:44

I think that's what makes this such a great show. Plenty of twists and loose ends to keep us interested Smile

TheFirstOfHerName · 15/12/2014 21:07

We're about to start watching it, so I'm going to scroll up the thread and try to read the comments in a +24 sort of way.

oneowlgirl · 15/12/2014 21:29

Excellent episode - but the whole time I felt so angry that Quinn hadn't let Carrie take the shot at Haqqani when Saul was with him - would have saved all this trouble!

TheFirstOfHerName · 15/12/2014 21:56

Well that was a bit stressful.

Why did Denis ask for the belt if he wasn't actually going to kill himself?

Is Carrie really going to go all black ops in a business suit with conspicuously blond hair?

It's like Quinn is turning into Carrie and Carrie is turning into Saul.

CoolCadbury · 15/12/2014 22:17

Saul is essentially as honourable as you can get, given that he has been a CIA man for a long time. I'm sure he has done lots of dubious things in his career but he lives and breathes his job, which is to protect USA.

I think one of the questions the show throws up is how far the characters are willing to go to get the job done. I know Saul used Carrie mercilessly in the last series but it was worth it in the end - or was it given that Carrie was in such a state? And what about Quinn? Most of us love him but seeing the torture equipment on display made me feel queasy. How many of us are willing to look the other way because a) we like the character and b) we think it's justified?

Hassled · 15/12/2014 22:18

I still believe in Saul's goodness. He's a broken wreck of a man - effectively forced to leave the CIA, has a muppet take over the role that's rightfully his, gets stuck in some sort of defence non-job, has lost his skills sufficiently that he falls for a set-up and gets taken hostage - no wonder he can't remember what sort of a phone he used.

Why did Denis ask for the belt - to see what Martha would do? Some sort of test to see if there was any love left?

OP posts:
CoolCadbury · 15/12/2014 22:25

I agree with you about Saul Hassled. Poor Saul he has been through so much. Also, there are major tensions in his marriage as well.

I wonder if we will find anything more about Dennis and Martha or whether we have effectively said bye to them. The rest of the series will be based on trying to get Haqqani. I reckon Zaf will side with Carrie and Quinn to bring him down. C+Q can't do it without Zaf's help.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 15/12/2014 22:26

Most of us love him but seeing the torture equipment on display made me feel queasy

Yes i gasped when i saw the table with torture tools on it.

Quinn also put a knife in Brody as part of a 'bad cop' act to get brody seeing carrie as good cop. It wasnt even loss of temper- it was pre-meditated.

There is lots of overlap in what each side does that i think is unacceptable. I dont think either wins the morality awards!

Fiderer · 16/12/2014 05:25

Quinn came in as ruthless black ops, then seemed to soften a bit. Now he seems to have re-kindled his black ops side. And yy that Carrie seems more Saul-like. So far.

As for Saul (poor maligned bringer of snacks) - I think the showing of Abu Nazir's burial at sea was timed so that we could see that he let himself be killed knowing that the Langley bomb would be the culmination of his plans. As someone said, there had to be a high-ranking CIA bod there.

Going back to the razor, I thought as Brody did turn out to have been turned, it was clear that he'd given the man it. There was a scuffle just out of sight of the camera.

But the mole story was never resolved was it? Someone tipped off Eileen's husband. Recall thinking it might have been Galvez. He just disappeared though, didn't he?

Fiderer · 16/12/2014 05:35

Back in this series, I hope they don't leave many loose ends. Still want to know why Bachmann handed over classified documents to the ISI. He got the location of wanted terrorists but the documents must have been of value to the ISI and their leaking must have been against US interests.

Someone asked Dennis if Haqqani would have the plans to the embassy and he said yes. Wtf giving them to anyone? I think "wtff?" (Lockhartâ„¢) sums up this series for me so far.

And that includes warming to Lockhart as a character Shock - his admission to Carrie was unexpected.

northender · 16/12/2014 06:27

Re the belt, I thought it was just confirmation of what a coward Dennis is that he couldn't even bring himself to do it. Brilliant series, so much better than the last. Roll on Sunday!
