...before the previous thread here rolls off a cliff.

Someone wanted a character list. I have, with a bit of help from Wiki, come up with:
The Mighty Carrie
Quinn aka Woopert. Most of us definitely would, despite the resemblance to a ferret.
Lockhart - once hated, now we have some grudging respect.
Saul - all that is right and good in the world, with a passing resemblance to Life of Brian man who hasn't spoken in years.
Dar Adul aka Salieri - what's happened to him?
Fara - once an IT fraud geek, now an intrepid hands-on agent who doesn't keep enough of an eye on her bin bags.
Martha, the nice ambassador
Denis, her nefarious husband
John, second in command at CIA Lahore HQ, we're warming to him
Aayan aka Pi, now sailing the heavenly oceans with a tiger
Sandy, former CIA chief, now pushing up the daisies
Aasar Khan, aka Raza, aka Hot Spooks Guy
Bunran Latif, the General, aka Art Malik
Haqqani, the craggy Taliban leader who prefers to shag next to a bearded man chained to a radiator
Tasleen, aka one of the Kardashians.

Have I missed anyone?

This article is very good. Written by 2 former CIA agents.
IT HAS NO SPOILERS.

Thanks for posting that ihate. Utterly absorbing.

rallytog1 · 16/12/2014 09:28

I think number 2 in that article might be spoilery (or at the very least predictable). It sounds as though the relationship referred to has progressed further than we've seen on screen.

Fantastic article though.

GypsyFloss · 16/12/2014 10:50

That was really interesting Ihatethecold thankyou .

ihatethecold · 16/12/2014 11:08

Really rally?
I couldn't see any spoilers.
I did check.

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 16/12/2014 11:23

What was Lockhart's confession to carrie? I think ive missed that!

Roonerspism · 16/12/2014 11:28

That Carrie wouldn't have opened the door (to the intruding terrorists).

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 16/12/2014 11:44

Ahh, thanks rooners. I did see that. I thought i'd missed something else.

That is a great article linked to by ihatethecold

I naively thought that haqaani was a made-up character (based on real people) Blush

Fiderer · 16/12/2014 15:32

It went something like Lockhart "It was my fault" (I presume about giving up the assets) and Carrie answered "It was a hard call, I don't know what I'd have done." Followed protocol probably...

V good article, thanks.

Poor Max sitting there with Fara.

OnTheThursdayOfChristmas · 16/12/2014 18:49

Lockhart responded
'Thank you for saying that'
Implying that he and Carrie both knew full well he made the wrong call....

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 16/12/2014 19:10

Jeez, what an episode - DH and I needed a strong drink half way through!! Love Quinn.

Re: Saul, I haven't been suspicious of him in this series, when Quinn was questionning him, I just saw him as broken tbh. However, there have been a couple of occasions in previous series where I have doubted his intentions (led entirely by certain expressions/camera shots), so who knows - it could be building up to that.

werenotreallyhere · 16/12/2014 20:12

I don't think Virgil is with Max as he said in the first series that he left the CIA to go freelancing to spend more time with his family, doesn't really make sense for him to go to Pakistan then.

TheFirstOfHerName · 16/12/2014 21:39

I remember Virgil from his Due South days...

Cocolepew · 16/12/2014 22:19

Oh I lovedithe Mountie Due South

Cocolepew · 16/12/2014 22:21

Humph. Strike out fail.

LaundryFairy · 16/12/2014 22:30

I met the Mountie - Paul Gross - many years ago at a theatre press night in Toronto. Gorgeous, but a bit cocky.

Cocolepew · 16/12/2014 22:47

Should have kept your eyes above the waist then Laundry

Cocolepew · 16/12/2014 22:49

Yikes, just googled him. He now looks like a cross between John Barrowman and Quinn Confused

TheFirstOfHerName · 17/12/2014 06:51

I had a slight crush on him, but it was the character I liked rather than the actor.

Chandon · 17/12/2014 07:44

I thought this season so far very good, but too bloody. I thought things weren't quite that bad in Pakistan.

Then I read the news.

I now feel a bit sick for watching this series, as entertainment.

Does that make sense?

Sad
Fiderer · 17/12/2014 08:15

Chandon Yes it does make sense. Reading this article by Robert Fisk in today's Independent made me realise how the ISI storyline in Homeland wasn't as much of a dramatic stretch as I thought it was.

I watch WWI/WWII films, Foyle's War etc. and enjoy the Le Carré style Cold War programmes and yes, you see the effect on people and those unwittingly caught up in what happened but today's news is just that, today's and shocking and that's particularly harrowing.

Roonerspism · 17/12/2014 08:57

chandon I completely understand and it made me feel very uncomfortable too.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 17/12/2014 09:25

This series is quite close to the bone at the moment and I know exactly what you mean when you say it makes you uneasy to watch this for entertainment because this kind of stuff is happening to real people and it really isn't entertainment.
In a way it's quite good though because they do show a more human side to some of 'the baddies' which in real life I think people forget. I hate drones and bombs etc, so many innocent people killed Sad

hattymattie · 17/12/2014 09:26

The convergence of reality and TV have been horrifying in the last two days. Homeland is now seeming practically tame by comparison to RL events.Sad

hattymattie · 17/12/2014 09:27

x post with Jazz - who could have known?
