So we're onto X Factor proper!

The pretty guy was Ashley then . For me, I'm lovin the Hairdressers (not a clue what their band name is), the pretty guy (Ashley), and Ben (long hair).

Don't like stage school kid one teeny tiny bit.

I think they said, but I don't remember... just remember "rat pack"

Tony Freakin' Bennett.
I think it's a fix BTW, if you look at who's been voted out compared with the genre of music that they've had to sing.
Last week: Motown. who goes out? the group that is least likely to be good at singing motown. (specially with louis picking the song)
This week: Rod Stewart. WHo goes out? the group leat likely etc etc.
Next week: Tony Bennett. You can bet your ass it won't be ray that goes out!

I'm sure they didn't have themed weeks last year. I think they did for Pop Stars and maybe Pop Idol but don't know why they have brought it back this year.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 23/10/2006 08:51

I'm pretty sure that it's all the same people they had on american idol as well.
which means we have a queen themed evening to look forward to.

I didn't even watch it this week. Can't be bothered to sit through and hour and a half of singing etc. I just watched the results show and saw snippets of the performances which I can endure more.

I think themes are all very well as long as you're not ousted before its your turn

how can it be more fair Fio?
surely some groups are going to be better than others at certain genres.
wouldn't you agree that the unmentinoables or whatever the hell they were called would have stood a better chance if they had sung something more appropriate to them?
or i guess the flipside of that is that they could have chosen a motown song that would have worked better with their style.
But next week some of those artists (i use the term loosely) aren't going to do well doing swing stuff.

StrawberryFULLMoonOWOWOWWWWWWW · 23/10/2006 08:59

i cant believe this show(even though i will still watch it!)..macdonalds brothers have been so the worst act in both weeks and yet the fantastic 4sure went out????i know it wasnt as good cos it wasnt their style but macdonalds breakfasts were sooooooooo out of tune!!!..its a travesty!....but if theyd kicked robert off i would never have watched again cos that would have proved how much of a fix it was...and all this about ill have to save my own group(lou lou and sharon??)...theyre supposed to be picking the best erformers not showing favouritism!!.pah humbug!

and WTF was rod wearing?! nice jacket sargent pepper.
i agree that they should be able to make the song their own. but that would need some originality. which very few have.
and that ashley kid drives me nuts. his voice is soooo put on!
DH and I were doing a lovely rendition of an ashley/ macy gray duet last night.

i couldn't help singing the sesame street song "one of these things is not like the others, which one is it do you know?..." whenever they were on. but then I am going to hell in a handbasket!

Flamebat · 23/10/2006 09:11

I preferred last year with no themes (or not a theme every week at least). An artist shouldn't have to be versatile.

James Blunt and Coldplay manage to sing the same depressive stuff all the time, and they do just fine.

Actually - name me 5 artists that do radically different styles (and NOT someone who has been going for 2 or more decades...)

I think the tune needs to stay basically the same.

MrsFish · 24/10/2006 13:59

I thought Ben sounded better than Rod on saturday

LieselVonTrappDoor · 24/10/2006 14:35

Absolutely - he did Maggie May better than Ive ever heard Rod do it. As Louis Walsh says "ye made the song yer own"

anniebear · 25/10/2006 12:06
