So we're onto X Factor proper!

The pretty guy was Ashley then . For me, I'm lovin the Hairdressers (not a clue what their band name is), the pretty guy (Ashley), and Ben (long hair).

Don't like stage school kid one teeny tiny bit.

I continue to maintain that 4Sure would have gone through if they had a song that suited them better. That was not a winning song.

By the way, I think 'Try a Little Tenderness' was first done by Blood Sweat and Tears?

LieselVonTrappDoor · 21/10/2006 21:41

Im away to watch some fireworks going off, and perhaps have a fag. Back in a sec.

Earlybird · 21/10/2006 21:47

Wasn't 'Try a Little Tenderness' also in the Commitments movie?

ScreamandYellowFeathers · 21/10/2006 21:48

Who's gone?

MrsFish · 21/10/2006 21:49

4sure

LieselVonTrappDoor · 21/10/2006 21:49

Stuff that its raining. That boy band went - amongst a flood of tears and snot.

ScreamandYellowFeathers · 21/10/2006 21:55

YES! Did not like them.

MissyBabee · 21/10/2006 21:56

glad they went, they were fairly poor!
thank god robert calmed it down a bit - too much trying to be james brown...
i think ben's good and leona.
didn't see ashley so can't comment on him. he looks like a popstar though.

Flamebat · 21/10/2006 22:20

How did Dull Bros NOT get out???

Loved Louis' comment about Simon's trousers though

Ray's week next week - Rat Pack

I like that style, just don't wanna see him slaughter it!

They are all crappo and I am rapidly losing the motivation to watch it. As it is I sky + it and whizz through it all at top speed. Boring.

Flamebat · 21/10/2006 22:56

My Ashley love is purely because of prettiness...

I wish I had sky +

agree gobble - dancing much more entertaining.

how was the film?

Earlybird · 22/10/2006 15:39

Can't believe it - still missed Ben!

Earlybird · 22/10/2006 15:46

Still can't believe the MacDonald brothers got through for another week...

Earlybird · 22/10/2006 16:04

Do you think Simon (or the other judges) choose, as a tactical strategy, to send home the stronger contestants? In a twisted sort of way it could guarantee that their own finalists shine brighter against weaker competition later on....

I'm cynical enough to think it's likely that there are all sorts of political/personality/ratings machinations going on behind the scenes that affect the outcome of the show each week....and I'm willing to bet that some results we see onstage have nothing to do with talent or performance on the night.

The MacDonald brothers are being voted in because Simon is being so hossible to them. There is also a massive local campaign here to vote for them. I still think they have not been showcased very well at all and could do much better. At least if they are voted out any time now then can hold their heads high.

Top 3 for me

Ben
Eton Road
Ashley

Earlybird · 22/10/2006 20:33

I think there's much more to it than the public vote. If the producers/judges don't think someone has what it takes to be a "star" or bring in ratings/public votes, they can (for example) be sabotaged by a duff song choice that doesn't showcase them at their best.

I think the MacDonalds will stay in for a few more weeks (at least) because the Scottish contingent is voting in large numbers and bringing in £1 per text/call (or whatever the cost is) - so they're currently a ratings draw and a financial draw. They'll stay in for a while longer even though there's no way, based on what we've seen so far, that they have the talent/charisma to win.

I also can imagine there's some "you vote for me and I'll vote for you" backstage dealmaking going on with the judges to ensure that the "good" contestants stay in.

And here's another example - last night, remember how Sharon thanked Simon for choosing the song for Kerry? Did he do that out of the kindness of his heart, or does she have the combination of talent/charisma/public interest story that makes them want to ensure she stays in the competition? Let's not forget that Simon owns part (or is it all) of the show, so he's going to do whatever he can to ensure that the people with standout talent and heartfelt stories stay in. It helps the ratings, and lines his pockets.

The Scots will not vote just because they are Scottish contestants. Local people will vote for those that they know. There is a huge local campaign here to support the MacDonalds but that won't last.I voted for them because I know them and they went to school with my sons (didn't vore this week BTW because I had to go out). If they go out, I wouldn't be voting for any of the other Scots.
