A new thread for all things Our Girl as we have already filled up another thread discussing everything to do with the show.

Candypop - Oooh, I just read everything above properly and I LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE your idea of having her kidnapped by some horrible terrorist group (while herself trying to rescue some girls or something) and CJ coming to the rescue (clearly with lots of dilemma about the fact that he shouldn't go as he's personally involved but somehow they overcome that) and in the end it's a combination of her and his bravery and wits that wins the day, complete with saving something far more significant too. They could even have a little lover's tiff beforehand to send her off with lots of angst, and then it all brings them together again and the resolution of tension is such that when they are finally together again it's all as good as it was in Series 1. There. Done. He's in army gear. She's in army gear. They don't have to directly be in the same platoon or anything. Lots of tension, lots of drama and angst, lots of missing each other and yearning, but no horrible messy jealousy stuff. Sorted. Wink

I'm worried that if TG or the BBC researchers are following this thread then they may be thinking that OG's ardent fans don't want another series!

Much as I adored the love story (and it goes without saying, the sublime CJ), I would definitely watch another series just to see Molly and how her journey progresses in her army career (covering PTS, family issues, more of the interaction with her platoon etc). I believe there is MUCH more scope for another series. Maybe build upon some of the other characters?

Perhaps show the up's and downs of maintaining a relationship in the army and keep CJ in that way?

If we continue putting our heads together I'm sure we could come up with the perfect script to keep everyone happy!

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2014 15:23

Wow. The Series 1 DVD just popped through my letterbox. That wasn't expected today! Off to look at extras, right now. Oh dear relapse already!

mandy214 · 02/11/2014 15:31

Ohh please report back on the extras on the DVD

ihearttc · 02/11/2014 15:35

Yes Rhubarb definitely report back...Im very jealous that you are potentially watching CJ scenes that we haven't seen yet!

And yes Bellini I completely agree. We obviously all love CJ but OG is so much more than that and that why I want more of it.

mandy214 I am torn- they are on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast show, there is enough time for them to get to Manchester- but I think these days they could be in studio in London and just do it from there. Iwan is also on BBC Wales (1pm show) so I think it will a London based studio thing :/

ihearttc- I was Pacey too and although I missed a few series I made sure I watched the very last one to see who she ended up with.

TG has said he has more for Molly - I guess we have to trust him on this and hope that with the massive fandom for CJ he finds a way to keep him in there somehow. Hope when they sat down once they had all been cast they had an option written in to contracts for 2nd series.

Trying to be realistic....

Lots of people on twitter saying they've had the DVD delivered, but no reports on what the extra are yet.

mandy214 · 02/11/2014 15:43

Of course had forgotten that. I would have been at work anyway but I'd have been very excited walking around Manchester after work / lunchtime thinking I could have bumped into him (I know he wouldn't have been strolling round the streets of Manc but a girl can dream Smile)!

orphan · 02/11/2014 15:44

Oh dear Rhubarb, recovery didn't last long!!Wink Am green with envy that you're now drooling ensconced in front of all new, never seen before CJ footage.

PassTheSherry · 02/11/2014 15:44

Oh there's huge scope for Molly. Just not so sure about the Captain James love story. Which really pains me to say because he was so, so, SO watchable and brilliant in it. But if TG finds a way to bring him/them back without compromising the series or the writing I would be ecstatic!

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2014 16:06

OK quick thoughts after one viewing. Boots on the Ground feature is interview with TG, executive director Caroline Skinner and both directors. There are no actor interviews. Lots of praise for Lacey as an actress, also praise for BA for bringing more to the role than expected, commanding respect of other actors who were playing the roles of the platoon and mention of chemistry with Lacey. Also praise for Iwan Rheon. Much discussion about the unique perspective of portraying conflict through eyes of a female soldier. Some behind the scenes footage of OG being filmed. Definitely interesting although nothing new if you were hoping for an interview with the actors. Photo galleries look pretty much like ones that have been posted elsewhere.

Will probably just try to continue with rehab now, Possibly gradually wean myself off slowly.

orphan · 02/11/2014 16:18

Rhubarb is there any option to watch with a director/writer commentary?

cherin · 02/11/2014 16:19

brodiesbabe I think you've got talent ;-)
Let's see if TG has similar ideas (albeit what you describe is more of a role for Blaine of the Unit - american tv series about superspecialforces- that CJ if the British army!) but that's only small detail

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2014 16:29

orphan sorry that doesn't appear to be an option. It would have been good, though.

orphan · 02/11/2014 16:45

Oh that's a pity Rhubarb. Still want a proper novelisation of the series (though the fanfic is an excellent stopgap). It'd probably be the only novel I'd be happy to buy with a tie-in cover as I usually hate those editions! There's so much 'unseen' material that TG could include. I'd love to see more of CJ and Molly's letters home for example.

Rhubarb01 · 02/11/2014 17:02

I am now devising a revised rehab plan which includes the following:

  1. Trying to feign an interest in Lady Mary's Love Triangle in Downton in an attempt to dilute the effect of OG Love Triange.
  2. Develop an interest in some drama previously overlooked but worthy of attention such as Homeland which has more than five episodes per series and at least three series available to view!
  3. Find an engrossing series of novels ideally with a military or WWII theme (No matter what the description of the hero, mentally insert picture of CJ)

Well, its a start at least!

icemist · 02/11/2014 17:11

I loved Downton but since watching OG I just can't be bothered with it.

I need to find something else too. My brother gave me the box set of Game of Thrones (1st series) so I might try that.

Gutted that there's no actor interviews on DVDS but still looking forward to watching it.

Why did they only do 5 episodes!!!!

Richtea19 · 02/11/2014 17:18

Great discussions this afternoon. Very jealous of dvd arrival rhubarb.

With regard to second series, I would dearly love there to be one, but like many others wonder where it could go?

Candypop the idea of a possible kidnap could work. (Similar to Bridget Jones, Thai prison, Mark Darcey rescuing Her). CJ would be brought in within consultancy role and work out the logistics of getting her releases. There would be massive amounts of tension and all the war combat scenes we love, but with the added bonus of will they/won't they be reunited!

Having re read through Chap 3 of My Man FanFict, LL has completely got it right for me. IF there wasn't another series commissioned I would be more than happy to continue reading her stories and KlipDoctor too. But they would have to keep writing though!

orphan · 02/11/2014 17:29

Oh I like the idea of inserting mental picture of CJ into any given description of the hero, Rhubarb. Sometimes I prefer an author to omit any clear physical description, as it can really put me off if it doesn't tally with my preferences. I particularly dislike any likening of characters to actors cos they're rarely ones I 'admire'. But if an author were to write 'he was the spitting image of Ben Aldridge in Our Girl' then I might not grumble.Grin

SPOfficer · 02/11/2014 19:03

Wow what a good discussion today. Have followed with interest. Must admit I too am conflicted about another series. Desperate to see what happens next but struggling to work out what could be done whilst preserving all the things we loved about the first series. However, if TG says he has more stories to tell that it good enough for me and it is up to the BBC hierarchy to decide whether to commission.

Lots of talk of people's progress on rehab today as well. Two weeks out from the close if the series that makes sense. I for one am still enjoying this thread and rewatching the episodes. Sure life will crowd in again eventually but for now am happy to keep riding along and see where these mad ramblings take us next.

Made me laugh.. So true!

Our Girl and Captain James Discussion Thread...
cherin · 02/11/2014 20:12

:-) ahahahaha! Yes, true

cherin · 02/11/2014 20:13

(Am watching Life documentary with DS in the meantime. Not quite the same thing. There's love, lust, fights and death. But only animals...)

CLA1978 · 02/11/2014 20:17

I've just watch ep 2 again on iTunes. My 10yr old son is getting concerned now with me! When do you all think CJ realised he had feelings for MD? I'm thinking from the moment in the tent when he gives her the song to learn. Or would you say before?

Ilovelblue · 02/11/2014 20:22

Made me laugh too.

Ladies and SPOfficer - do you think we are getting ready for decompression maybe? (Cyprus with Ben [or Lacey for SPO]). I have never, ever had withdrawal symptoms following the end of a TV series as I have with this. Even when my favourites like Wimbledon and Strictly come to an end, I've usually gone back to normal after a couple of days... and this is now a full two weeks! Incredible on all levels.

Let's see if anything is revealed tomorrow on Radio One or whether it's just a promotional interview for the DVD.

furcoatbigknickers · 02/11/2014 20:26

Love it CLAGrin i've been depressed all day... Just suggested the our girl dvd would cheer me up to dh.
