I believe it's back on Sunday. Hurray!

I really hope though that they focus more on Edith and less on Mary and her boring, all look the samey, suitors.

I've been waiting for someone to start a thread there's some lovely pix in this week's RT, haven't read the article yet. I have enjoyed the trailers too. Looking forward to it

WalkingWolf · 17/09/2014 14:57

Shock I didn't know it was back on this week! The start of DA always makes me realise how close christmas is.

Am I allowed to say that last season wasn't as good as it normally is? I hope it gets better again this year.

Vintagejazz · 17/09/2014 16:51

You are allowed Wolf. And the Christmas special was absolutely atrocious.

Davros · 17/09/2014 17:34

Much of the last two seasons have been atrocious. But I still love it!

AtYourCervix · 17/09/2014 17:38

Oh I love Downton.

(Watching the boxsets of the first 2 series kept me going in deepest darkest africa last year)

MTWTFSS · 17/09/2014 17:42

I am super duper excited Grin

Biscoff · 17/09/2014 18:09

Can't wait!

GloriousGloria · 18/09/2014 15:07

I agree with you all. Last series was awful compared to the rest.
That cousin Rose could do with tottering off somewhere new Grin

May have to have a little catch up to remind myself where we are at.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 18/09/2014 20:11

ooh can't wait - I agree series 4 wasn't as good. Didn't stop me watching it about 4 times though!

Violetcloud · 18/09/2014 21:13

Ooh, there are others who are going to watch it! I'm so excited Grin
Although I can barely remember what happened, so may have to join Gloria in a catch up

glenthebattleostrich · 18/09/2014 21:20

I don't think I'm going to be leaving the house until Christmas with all the new TV.

Is it wrong to treat DH to a new computer game so I can watch in peace?

OnlyLovers · 19/09/2014 15:58

Oh, does it start that soon!?!

I lurve it. I know it's dreadful but it is a proper guilty pleasure and rich-people/posh frocks porn. [happy]

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 19/09/2014 16:00

I missed the last series. Anyone know of where I could get hold of it?

WalkingWolf · 20/09/2014 10:25

What time is it on? I'm going to have to get some snacks in ready for tomorrow.....

MTWTFSS · 20/09/2014 11:07

But what is the perfect Downton Abbey snack?!? Drinking tea in a delicate cup and saucer with pinkie in the air is an absolute must!

tribpot · 20/09/2014 11:13

My absolute favourite thing about Downton is the MN thread - welcome back.

I really hope one of Mary's suitors has gone bald or for some reason had to dye his hair. Or has to wear a hat. Or something to mean I can tell one from the other. Preferably they would be replaced by a redhead and a blond although really I like the fiery radical one (no idea of the name).

I hope the Freda Dudley-Ward storyline is now out of the way, I don't think Downton should try to involve historical figures as it just highlights how unrealistic a portrait of the 1920s it actually is.

Maggie Smith will get all the best lines, as per. Next Christmas special should just be her and Isabel and a couple of servants to give them someone to talk to.

MissMole · 20/09/2014 11:21

I'm working Sunday nights (gah!) but hope to manage to use a catch up something or other.
I hope for:
Lurve, or at least a bit of action for Thomas the footman.
Ditto for Edith.
Ditto for Mary, but yes, not with some boring clone suitor.
Oh, heck, action for most! Gawd half of em are bereaved and the other half traumatised.

But. Not too much action, this is Downton after all.
So:
Some incredibly slow moving yet gorgeous background story with pointed quips from Grandmama.
Fabulous elegant outfits and hairdos.
And:
A totally unexpected and dramatic Happening, a la death in bed of Lady Mary exotic foreign sex god.

Julian should be able to manage that eh.

fairnotfair · 20/09/2014 13:33

Oh lovely; a Downton thread. I am SO happy it's back. YY to Lady Mary's cookie-cutter suitors.

Poor old Evelyn Napier - every time he visits Downton, he brings a "friend" who cuts him out with Lady Mary. He's the eternal wingman. You'd think he'd have learned by now, but apparently not.

WalkingWolf · 21/09/2014 09:11

Less than 12 hours to go! WinkGrin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/09/2014 10:25

Hello all!

Yes I feel sorry for Evelyn too - she should have just married him when she had the chance!

Interested to see how Edith's little girl is.

tribpot · 21/09/2014 11:45

Now Evelyn Napier is the slightly different-looking one who proposed to Mary practically as Matthew's body was being lowered into the ground, yes? Who she doesn't fancy at all. Maybe he's playing the odds, that with so few eligible men left in Britain after the First World War (and the Spanish flu) Mary's choices literally are the two dark haired clones and him.

Marking my place for later.

tribpot · 21/09/2014 11:55

And the latest on Edith's babyfather - supposedly dead in Germany but I bet he's in a coma or a lunatic asylum or something, and will resurface just as Edith has found new love.

WalkingWolf · 21/09/2014 14:50

I have that theory too tribpod. As soon as Edith has moved on or moves away or something... He'll come back.
