Brookside fans thread

Pyjamaramadrama · 16/09/2014 16:29

I noticed on the other thread that there are a few Brookie fans here. So thought is start a thread.

I still can't believe channel 4 axed it in favour of Big Brother. It was the best soap going. Although it did get a bit weird towards the end. Everyone I know loved Brookside.

I haven't seen that many of the actors in other things, always thought Jimmy Corkhill would do quite well.

Did you know that the houses where they filmed Brookside have now all been sold off and people live in them. Imagine living where the body was under the patio.

I believe that they are all owned by a property developer and Brookside fan, and are rented out. So I guess that there's always the possibility of a resurrection!

Lots of episodes here. Not bad quality.

I loved it too, but also stopped watching the last couple of years when it went all gangstery. I couldn't stand Jacqui and Ron Dixon.

Didn't Billy Corkhill end up with Sheila Grant?

auntpetunia · 20/09/2014 08:11

Loved loved Brookie, not just because it was filmed around the corner from where I grew up. I remember having to beg our music teacher to let orchestra practice finish early on the first day so we could get home to watch the start of channel 4!
Used to love looking for local places, Debbie's house was in my friends road and we all sat outside watching them film. Used to regularly see jimmy, Barry Sheila etc wAndering around. And the best bit....my mum is in the original opening credits, only in passing shot, but obviously her. I took my kids to Liverpool museum recently and they have clips playing. I'd never told the kids and as they watched it was funny to watch their faces as they both recognised her.

Yeah I miss Brookie. It always had the most deep stroylines x

piechuck · 20/09/2014 08:43

Petunia, that is so cool, going to watch it now to see if I can spot your Mum.

Ar-ey I didn't want to hear about Terry being a real gangster!!Shock

Simon the cult leader, that's him, it was daft at that point and went downhill from there. Would love to watch the early stuff again though!

(Just googled pics of nat and Georgia, I had strange taste as a teen!)

auntpetunia · 20/09/2014 08:47

Oh god Nats hair!!!

ScooseIsLoose · 20/09/2014 09:00

I loved brookie the houses were in one location and the shops were in childwall, where they now film hollyoaks. My mate used to live near there and we used to go to the woods and look through the fence to watch the filming. We also saw jimmy corkhill in town, he was wearing a mac and my mates dared me to shout flasher mac at him! He didn't look impressed (can't blame him, gobby teenagers!) I remember katie rogers being a cow to my mate when she recognised her, we were only kids jackie Dickson was with her and she was lovely.

15/19. Could do better.

I had completely forgotten about the death from the scaffolding fall.

I used to think Brookside Close was so glamorous with all the houses being new builds!!

SwiftRelease · 20/09/2014 09:04

Loved it too! Was a v loyal fan for years! Admittedly it did get silly by the end. But yes, would love to see it resurrected. Is it being repeated atm then?

Marlinspike · 20/09/2014 09:25

15/19 for me in the quiz - I'd forgotten about Ron & Bev and the Farnhams.

SwiftRelease · 20/09/2014 09:28

13/19 but a lot of the questions are about things that happened in the 80's I was only a baby then so wouldn't be watching brookie

lollilou · 20/09/2014 11:48

Where is Barry Grant now?

auntpetunia · 20/09/2014 12:21

Paul Usher (Barry Grant) lives in north wales and his 24 year old son recently died in suspicious circumstances. www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/brookside-star-paul-usher-in-7624039 ( why don't my link things work)

auntpetunia · 20/09/2014 12:22

Gah even strike out failed.

SwiftRelease · 20/09/2014 14:23

15/19! Should be in pub quizzes

ISpyPlumPie · 20/09/2014 16:53

19/19 - don't know whether I should be Grin or Blush

'Barry Grant' used to live near our school. 'Bout as close to a famous person as we got round there - oh the glamour!

ISpyPlumPie · 21/09/2014 12:16

Oops think I've killed the Brookie thread Grin

JimmyCorkhill · 22/09/2014 13:38

No,no...we're all just in awe!!

turningvioletviolet · 22/09/2014 15:11

One of my mum's very best friends was the actress who played Annabel Collins. It was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to us (we lived vicariously through other people's lives) when she was cast. Very sadly long gone now.
