Brookside fans thread

I noticed on the other thread that there are a few Brookie fans here. So thought is start a thread.

I still can't believe channel 4 axed it in favour of Big Brother. It was the best soap going. Although it did get a bit weird towards the end. Everyone I know loved Brookside.

I haven't seen that many of the actors in other things, always thought Jimmy Corkhill would do quite well.

Did you know that the houses where they filmed Brookside have now all been sold off and people live in them. Imagine living where the body was under the patio.

I believe that they are all owned by a property developer and Brookside fan, and are rented out. So I guess that there's always the possibility of a resurrection!

Yes, I remember the siege! It was that bloke who turned up as an ambulance driver in Casualty was't it? I also remember episode 1 - Annabelle Collins' hand was the first shot I think. Who was Jimmy Corkhill's brother? Was it Terry? What happened to his character?

threepiecesuite · 18/09/2014 20:14

Wasn't Billy Corkhills his brother? Married to Doreen?
Who had a drug addict son?

My claim to fame is that I saw Sammy Rogers and Owen snogging in a car down Crosby beach (Burbo Bank).

Loved Brookie so much. Loved Mock Johnno, Tin 'ead, the Moby and of course Casa Bevron.

Terry got hooked into the mad-Jesus-cult (what was the name of their leader?)

Body under the patio was the best story, I liked the incest-brother as well (name anyone?!), very easy on the eye!

ScrambledEggAndToast · 18/09/2014 20:36

I remember that incest storyline with the Simpson family. That was all a bit weird, the brother and sister ended up going off to live together as a couple.

Pyjamaramadrama · 18/09/2014 22:01

Oh yes Sammy and Owen, didn't she really mess him about?

The incest brother and sister were Nat and Georgia.

Jimmy Corkhills son was an addict and I think he OD'd and died after Jimmy got him drugs.

They should do a spin off, where we find out what happened to everyone after they left the close.

I loved Brookie from the beginning.

Had stopped watching by the time it was taken off air though, it all got too weird.

Hassled · 18/09/2014 22:45

My love for Barry Grant will never die. That is all.

Hassled · 18/09/2014 22:46

Do you remember the Soap Bubble? Damon Grant and pretty girlfriend went to York on a train and ... I can't remember the rest. Damon got stabbed?

MarthasHarbour · 18/09/2014 22:48

I loved it too. I watched a few episodes of the Royal recently and sinbad was in that too - he is just Sinbad!!

I couldn't get my head round Lindsay Corkhill being a gangster Confused

cherryhealey · 19/09/2014 20:04

Loved it.
Big crush on Barry Grant
Karen Grant was my style icon circa 1985
Heather Haversham and her black VW Scirocco
The nurses siege
Damon and Debbie
Billy and Doe Corkhill
Sammy and Owen
The Farnhams and their very John Lewis house complete with nanny.
Would love to see all the 1980s episodes again- sitting watching the omnibus before getting ready to go out whilst at uni happy days.

Morgan · 19/09/2014 20:13

I loved Karen Grant as we share a Christian name and we were about the same age at the same time - I remember when she was having a big dilemma about sleeping with her boyfriend and I was doing the same .big crush on Barry Grant Smile

JimmyCorkhill · 19/09/2014 20:18

Massive fan Grin

Loved the love/hate relationship between Jimmy and Bing Crosby.

I remember being gripped by the Jordache/patio drama. Watching it on a small black and white telly in my friend's room in halls of residence.

MarthasHarbour · 19/09/2014 21:13

I actually know a couple called Damien and Debbie. They are in their early 30s so dont get why I think this is so cool!

millimat · 19/09/2014 21:57

I loved Brookie and cried and cried at Damon and Debbie!
Remember seeing Ray Quinn on X factor but think of him as the little squirt Anthony Murray!
It was a good platform for sue Johnston, Amanda burton and Ricky Tomlinson.
I'd love to watch it on e4 or similar.

Ellenora5 · 19/09/2014 22:42

I loved brookside, thought it was great, really good strong characters, and they were the first to do realistic story lines, the first lesbian scenes, the first down syndrome story, and how it was all handled was brilliant, great writing to be fair, it did go a bit bonkers and I stopped watching it after the epidemic that was just confined to the close and started killing people off one by one

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/09/2014 22:47

Me me me !!! I chose the Uni of Liverpool because of Brookie AND I worked for Damon Grant (well Simon) for a bit in his Eco cafe.
One of my best mates got me framed signed photos of Barry and Terry for my 40th birthday. He found them on eBay. Grin

Mintyy · 19/09/2014 22:57

Loved Brookside! I'd watch repeats if it were on now.

Paloma12 · 19/09/2014 23:12

Loved it. Massive crush on Max. Does anyone remember the original posh boy, Jonathan Gordon-Davies? His poor wife electrocuted herself on her birthday and he ended up living with terry!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 19/09/2014 23:19

Yes, terry now at her majesty's pleasure!
Loved Tin'ead.

AngryBeaver · 20/09/2014 03:45

Was Damon and Debbie ever set on a houseboat and did one of them die because they didn't get insulin in time?
I remember this scenario but have never known what I watched!

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 20/09/2014 05:24

Wasn't Simon the cult leader? With Sammy Jackson(?)

I freaking loved the Brookie.

One of the reasons why I'm an lfc fan and general Scouse wannabe. (I'm from Essex Blush )

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 20/09/2014 05:27

Yes the houseboat rings a bell.

Debbie was an insulin dependant diabetic and she and Damo nearly split up because he caught her using a syringe.
Damon died after being stabbed. One of the only times my nails northern grandma cried at the telly!
