Anyone planning to watch this?

I was a little like these children; joined Mensa as a child, but used my ability to coast through school/university rather than to achieve anything noteworthy.

DS2 is also of this ilk. We are not doing any of the things these parents are doing, although when opportunities arise through school then obviously we let him participate.

He's a clever kid but not weird enough. Plus I do fuck all to teach him. He's an auto didact, largely from YouTube videos. State primary.

It all went wrong when I fwd my mate the email from the production company and he mistakenly copied them into his opinion. They were utterly charming. S3 thinks he would have failed at tube map round anyway. Still gets all the logic ones right in tonight's. I'm crap at them

I'm watching this in catch up now and the more I see of Shoshana the more i doubt her claim to have such a high IQ. I think she has educated herself in a lot of subjects and adopted them all as a way of living. She knows them well and knows her goals and believes in what she is doing but a lot of what she is saying is parrotting what she has learned, it's like she is a rent a mouth for some of her therapies/practices. There is nothing shining through that suggests a high IQ. The opposite actually if i'm honest.

ouryve · 27/07/2014 22:37

Eleanor is gorgeous and her parents are fab.

Still trying to work out Sharon and her family, but hell, her memory is amazing!

Lesleythegiraffe · 27/07/2014 22:40

Nice to see a nice kid with normal parents - Eleanor. It was a delight to see her after the obsessive parenting of Aliyah and the desperation of Curtis' mum to turn him into a brand.

Both are now (thankfully) out of the contest.

DiaDuit · 27/07/2014 22:43

And my heart is breaking for that poor boy tudor. His eyes went straight to his dad when the buzzer went. That poor boy Sad i wish the pushy ones would put themselves through what they are putting their dcs through just for a week to experience the pressure. They want the glory of having the smartest child- why? Because they arent good enough at anything themselves so they make their child the thing they are good at (raising the best child). Makes me so angry.

Muskey · 27/07/2014 22:43

I agree that Eleanor is lovely and her mother is so normal. I thought Tudors dad really didn't rate his sister at all which was really sad. Why oh why are most of the kids dressed so weird. God help them they have enough to deal with without their parents making them look like children dressed as adults

ouryve · 27/07/2014 22:45

I want to flick Mensa's gifed child consultant on the nose.

She has that voice.

DiaDuit · 27/07/2014 22:45

Is Eleanor only 11? She's really tall!

wwbuffydo · 27/07/2014 22:48

Watching it on plus one- these parents are just mean! Gazelles parents are so cold with her. She failed herself? She's 11, ffs!!

ouryve · 27/07/2014 22:49

I was pretty much fully grown (and equally pubescent and spotty) at 11.

Eleanor and her mum are almost identical apart from the hair.

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:51

I see that the Eleanor fan club have turned up Grin

ouryve · 27/07/2014 22:51

The logic round is throwing up my visual memory.

Notagenius · 27/07/2014 22:52

She turned 12 whilst the programme was being made. She is tall though. Dd looks tiny in comparison (and dd is almost 5ft 1)

wwbuffydo · 27/07/2014 22:53

Eleanor's mum really reminds me of the mum in outnumbered.

DiaDuit · 27/07/2014 22:54

I still dont think i'm fully grownat 28! Grin

I know a man who treats his daughter like tudor's father. Not with academic stuff but athletics. The girl is very talented and performs amazingly but i have seen the bollockings and the pre race 'pep talks' and they are fucking terrifying. The polr girl is a nervous wreck constantly. Its awful.

wwbuffydo · 27/07/2014 22:56

And aliya looks ill. She needs to run around in the sunshine lots.

wwbuffydo thank you SO much. It has been bugging me all programme wondering who Eleanor's mum reminded me of. Smile

ouryve · 27/07/2014 22:57

Shoshana needs a MN bra intervention.

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:59

Why was that directed at me Picturesinthefirelight Confused

DiaDuit · 27/07/2014 22:59

"That was a good metaphor"

Hmm that was a fucking cruel metaphor. Twats!

ouryve · 27/07/2014 23:00

Aliyaa has been for 8 hours after finishing school at almost 4pm. Accounting for juice dinner, she needs sleep. She's only 9, ffs.

And some iron.

ouryve · 27/07/2014 23:01

4 hours.

I need sleep, too :o

wwbuffydo · 27/07/2014 23:02

I can't unsee it now. Also I feel that if Shoshanna is a child psychologist, this programme will not be dru.ming up much new business for her. I would not let her anywhere near my DD.

DiaDuit · 27/07/2014 23:03

ourvye sorry if i'm being thick, what was Aliyah doing for 4 hours? Was it learning the cards?
