Child Genius (C4)

Anyone planning to watch this?

I was a little like these children; joined Mensa as a child, but used my ability to coast through school/university rather than to achieve anything noteworthy.

DS2 is also of this ilk. We are not doing any of the things these parents are doing, although when opportunities arise through school then obviously we let him participate.

Tudors parents are horrid

Far too much pressure they put on them

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 27/07/2014 21:53

Hi, just been watching with dd, her comment at 16 was, those poor little kids, they are like performing seals.

beanandspud · 27/07/2014 21:54

Am I the only one who is hating the name signs around their necks?

Sirzy · 27/07/2014 21:56

No, I am hating them too. Just makes them look like some sort of exhibt rather than a person.

ImperialBlether · 27/07/2014 21:56

Yes, I hate the name signs, too.

ImperialBlether · 27/07/2014 21:58

"Can you forgive yourself? Can you really forgive yourself?"

Shock
Nerf · 27/07/2014 21:59

Shoshanna's mum is weird.

Nerf · 27/07/2014 21:59

She is scaring me.

Nerf · 27/07/2014 22:00

Memorising a pack of cards is so pointless

Dolly80 · 27/07/2014 22:01

British Mensa should be ashamed. The name signs, the pressure. I think I'd rather my children be remarkably average.

Yes, Shoshana appears to have had a horrific childhood and decades of therapy which probably goes a long way towards explaining her approach to parenting her own child.

Chopchopbusybusy · 27/07/2014 22:08

All the parents in this programme are awful. My DDs want Tudor to come and live with us.

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:09

We want to adopt Hazelle and Tudor too.

AnnDaloozier · 27/07/2014 22:10

The question master guy is lovely. I've met him in rl

AnnDaloozier · 27/07/2014 22:11

I said last week, we were wooed by the production team. I said no. THANK FRICKEN GOD.

My hair and make up not bad enough.

Why is Curtis mum in evening wear

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:12

The question master seems nice. I get the impression his heart breaks when the children get a question wrong.

Ann, good question re the evening wear. She's dressed Curtis in evening wear too - poor thing. What on earth is wrong with jeans and tshirt for him?

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:17

I don't believe the parents who say they weren't behind the decision to enter the competition. They must have signed numerous consent forms not only for the contest but for the TV broadcast too. They all look like pretty desperate for their dc to win despite the protestations of 'it was his/her choice to come along and I'd rather we weren't here.' Hmm

Sirzy · 27/07/2014 22:19

You do have to wonder how some of these children will cope when they reach adulthood, they may be clever (or have good memories) but do they have the social skills needed to function in the real world?

ThunderbumsMum · 27/07/2014 22:20

I hope Tudor doesn't get through the next round. The sooner he is out of the competition the better for him. Someone should call SS about his parents, they seem really abusive.

It was nice to see Aliyah having fun with her parents.

jonicomelately · 27/07/2014 22:20

We think Tudor's mum thinks she Michelle Obama Grin
Wtf is it with 8 year old boys wearing bow ties? I've met hundreds of 8 year old boys, some of whom have very, very high iqs and not one would choose to wear a bow tie! Another intellectual affectation?

The question master runs something called quiz club. It's brilliant. Get your primary school into it, it's so much fun.
