in the coaches box...Grin

So Federer V Djokovic, 2014.

Gutted it isn't Nadal, or Grigor. Glad it isn't Murray, we might get more balanced commentary. Grin

I think Federer may have it- and will be able to play a better game than against the big serving Raonic.

But Djok is hurting from the number of GS losses
He has only played Fed on grass once. At Wimbledon. He lost.
If the roof goes on, Fed is better indoors too.

I want a 5 set thriller, because I don't care who wins really. I am refusing to move form the sofa. My children will go to school Monday wearing pyjamas, and with a bag of crisps for lunch.

I am sticking with Virgin Pimms (a.k.a Peppermint tea)BrewWine

Do you think no one bothers showing tennis after Wimby because the 'main' players take time off?

Because Feds/Raf/Murray/ Djok/Williams/Aza/Shrieky aren't playing anywhere atm they think the other players wont attract viewers?

shame on them if they think that!

btw wheres Tipsarevic these days? don't remember him at Wimby. Tennis

Hallo all! Been away visiting DS & DIL in France.

No wonder the French produce so many good tennis players!

In the village next to DS's (population 4,000) they have 5 hard tennis courts. I was watching some of them play & even some of the 10/11 year olds had great ground strokes & good serves & were obviously very keen & enjoying it.

Watched a couple of teens (probably about 16) play a set & I was amazed at the standard.

To rent a court for on hour was 3 euros (about £2.50).

Even the hamlet DS lives in has two hard courts!

Raahh · 19/07/2014 17:57

magi- it says a lot really doesn't it. Don't think there are any public courts anywhere near me. The large park certainly doesn't have them. We were never taught tennis at school.

Ferrer is giving Zverev the young 17 year a bit of a lesson, by the look of the Hamburg score.

Have just noticed that we still have balls.... Tennis Tennis Tennis

DramaAlpaca · 19/07/2014 23:54

Sshh! Don't mention the Tennis Tennis Tennis, they might disappear Grin

There are a few tennis clubs around here, but no public courts at all. The clubs are quite expensive, and I found our local one quite cliquey & not very welcoming unless you were a good player unlike me. We were members for a few years when the DC were young, but let the membership lapse when their interests changed.

Provencalroseparadox · 20/07/2014 00:16

Courts everywhere here but not surprising given where I am. I have friends near Bordeaux though and their attitude to tennis is v different, it's much more popular there

Rafa has pulled out of the Toronto and Cincinatti . And is doubtful for the US OPen too.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 31/07/2014 11:57

That means Rafa will drop lots of points and move down the rankings Sad

Raahh · 31/07/2014 12:07

To be honest, even if Rafa doesn't play again all season, Roger would have to win 3/4 masters and the US, and Rafa would still only drop to 3rd. He's 6,500 points ahead of Federer, so it's unlikely he will drop too far. Of course, Djok could extend his lead by a fair amount, as the first half of the hard season wasn't great for him last year. He has already qualified for the finals in London, which is a relief.

Hopefully it's a Djok type wrist injury (one that gets better in a couple of weeks and gives him Slam winning super powersWink).

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 31/07/2014 12:10

Ah OK, that's good to hear. I admit I haven't looked at the rankings recently.

Djok will almost certainly extend his lead over the hard court season. At least Rafa has already qualified for the end of season finals.

It's all a bit dull at the moment. I can't even get enthused enough to refresh the scores on the ATP web site. Sad
The Commonwealth games isn't filling the void. Although I do like watching gymnastics, and diving. Well, anything really. GrinApart from boxing. I'm sure there is lots of skill involved, but ultimately it is 2 people hitting each other. I don't get the appeal.

But nothing has really grabbed me.
