I suppose it's a matter of opinion- as a Rafa fan, I think it was a brilliant display of great tennisGrinTennis

JuanPotatoTwo · 06/06/2014 17:02

Yes that would have been a disaster. Did you have to talk your dh into coming home earlier than he wanted to?

OP posts:
JuanPotatoTwo · 06/06/2014 17:03

Oh yes, Rafa's tennis was amazing but as a match there wasn't much to it.

Raahh · 06/06/2014 17:07

Juan- no, we just managed to go out earlier or I might have stayed in bed all day Grin

Bit disappointing not really having anything to watch now- I could watch the Djok match, though.

ohmymimi · 06/06/2014 17:08

No-one dressed like a weekend cyclist deserves to win on a tennis court - that hi-viz/black look is vile.

MrsVamos · 06/06/2014 17:15

Fab match !

VAMOS RAFA !

Sorry I've not been around, rl just too busy !

Think Rafa is firm favourite on Sunday, apparently rain predicted so may even be Monday ?

Thought Novak played well, but he's not playing as strongly as 'usual', I don't know, just something with him doesn't seem 'right' ?

I predict Rafa will win his 9th RG title in 4 sets, possibly 3.

Not that I will see all of it if it is Sunday, stupid me got DD 1D tickets for Sunday, how daft is that ! I shall be doing a rain dance in French so hopefully final will be moved to Monday !

Please join in with me, think I will go madder trying to keep up with match surrounded by 65000 screaming girls !

MacenroeTheBoatAshore · 06/06/2014 17:21

hate to say this......was listening to Smooth radio this morning! when castle isn't blabbering on the musics quite good!

Tennis
MrsVamos · 06/06/2014 17:25

Oooh Castle drives me mad at Wimby and Queens ! Rage !

Same as Mark 'I am soooo biased towards Novak' Petchey. Grrrrr !

threebats · 06/06/2014 17:40

ladies - what happened? I come home its all over and I missed nothing much at all :)

Raahh · 06/06/2014 17:49

Fingers crossed MrsV that it gets held over until Monday.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/06/2014 17:50

If I join in your rain dance MrsV I'm not going to be able to see the match.

Raahh · 06/06/2014 17:52

Maybe they can play half Sunday, half Monday?

Grin
JuanPotatoTwo · 06/06/2014 17:54

I think something was up with Djok too MrsV. I also think Rafa will win on Sunday (or Monday if the rain dances work) but in five sets. And I want Djok to win :o

Mrs Mac - I said the very same thing about Andrew on Smooth a few weeks back - took me a lot of courage to admit it on thread :)

Raahh · 06/06/2014 17:55

MrsV- they usually have screens up at concerts- maybe you could request they use one of them for the match? I'm sure there will be at least one other parent that would thank you Grin

Marion!

MacenroeTheBoatAshore · 06/06/2014 19:04

so where was Andy today? his body was there but the rest of him wasn't.

speaking of which, a thought hath occurred unto me-

The british ladies whove won Wimbledon all have had busts made and are displayed somewhere in the grounds of Wimbledon courts (don't know why they aren't at the entrance where freds statue is, and why fred had a whole statue made and the ladies didnt1).

so, shouldn't there be a statue/bust of Andy at Wimbledon then? after all.....

and why do they say British? why not U.K? British athletes/Davis cup/Fed cup etc?

Raahh · 06/06/2014 19:31

Andy was simply outplayed, pure and simple.

I imagine statues and things take a while to be commission, and the one of Fred Perry has only been there since the mid-80's (I went to a Stockport school, he's one of the 'famous' people from round hereGrin, we don't have many)- which considering his contribution to British tennis, is woefully late.

Give it 50 years, they might do one of MurrayGrin

As for Britain/Uk- they tend to be interchangeable, but I'm sure there is some political/historical reason for the difference- although i think it is The United Kingdon of the British isles and Northern Ireland? Maybe Britain/Uk are shorthand (disclaimer - i may be talking TennisTennis.

It is something i feel I should know, and don't!

JuanPotatoTwo · 06/06/2014 19:35

Maybe they haven't got round to making it yet MrsMac. Don't know about the Uk/British thing, might it be just as simple as "British athlete" trips off the tongue more easily than "UK athlete?"

OP posts:
Raahh · 06/06/2014 19:37

The Fred statue is titchy, too- until I saw it, I imagined it was life size!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/06/2014 20:05

Oooh. Stay away from the British/UK thing. Those threads always seem to end up with buns being thrown.

Raahh · 06/06/2014 20:10

I know, Rafa.

This is why I support players, and not their nationalities.

I'm partial to Spaniards it seems, thoughGrin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/06/2014 20:16

Tempted to post the Venn diagram.

I think in sporting terms it's usually English or British because then Isle of Man and Channel Islands athletes can compete for 'Britain'. They're not part of the UK. Although in athletics and other things it's usually GB and Northern Ireland, and we're not part of either of those.

Raahh · 06/06/2014 20:23

oooh, Venn diagrams!

I hated the Isle of Man GrinProbably because of my primary school head teacher, who bullied me for years.

it's all very complicated, but fascinating, and I always wish I had done more history/politics at school , instead of going down the Modern languages route (because I use Russian so often as a 42 year SAHM) Grin

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/06/2014 20:31

No idea if this will work.

Bye bye clay. Hello grass.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/06/2014 20:32

Stuff in red is geographical, stuff in blue is political as far as I can tell.

Raahh · 06/06/2014 20:34

Thanks Rafa- that's fab.
