Grrr spellcheck !

Raahh · 20/06/2014 12:41

Aww, WombledonGrin

Is the draw out today?

I wonder if Ferrer will pull out, would be Sad if he did. And Dogs didin't make it to Eastbourne.

Re-predictions, I think Serena is always a threat at Wimbledon, but don't know if her early exit at RG will affect her. I don't want Shrieky to win. I think I would like to see Halep win it, but might be too soon for her.

Djok is a safe bet for the men. I would LOVE Rafa to turn up and play like it's 2008, but that might just be a dream.

Dimitrov might surprise everyone- and pull off a Queens/Wombledon double. It's a long shot, but it would be a good sign that the 'new breed' are finally breaking through.

And you really can't discount Federer at Wimbledon.

Nadal is drawn against Rosol in the second round again. Of course, that assumes that Rosol gets through his first round match. and Nadal.

You never know what will happen at Wimbledon, or any tournament, though. Grin

Raahh · 20/06/2014 13:10

Murray definitely has the easiest draw of the top few players. Hmm

Mama1980 · 20/06/2014 13:15

Agree raahh, Murray has definitely benefitted from the improved seeding Hmm
Djokovic has a potentially tough opening match and nadal so draw looks tricky.
Would be nice to see some of the 'new' guys do well here, hoping dogs and dimitrov both go far.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 14:25

Grigor played v. well at Queens, as did the lovely Fernando...

Agree with Raahh would love to see Rafa do well, I think there may be a few shocks this year.

I predict that Roger, Novak and Andy will be gone by the semis. Shock

Just a feeling I have.

Some of the ladies playing Eastbourne might have a non-event at Wimby too.

It feels like the winds of change are blowing a bit, no ?

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 14:26

Don't think Rosol will beat Rafa this year.

magimedi · 20/06/2014 15:55

I'd agree with you there, up to a point. Having just seen Madison Keys defeat Heather Watson, I'd back her as a possible surprise to go deep at Wimbledon.

Saw Martina in conversation with Dimbleby last night. It was great & fascinating (and sad) to hear all about her 'defection' to USA & how she didn't see her parents for 4/5 years.

She was asked a question about the 'shriekys' & said that it's interesting that none of them shriek in practice.

She also reckons that the five sets for men in slams should end & go back to being 3 sets.

She looked amazing, such a great figure & lovely skin. Makes me feel very 'meh' as there's only a year between her & me.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 16:02

Yy, magi, Madison played very well !

The shrieking does get very loud. Mind you, some of the blokes get very grunty loudly too.

Perhaps we will see more faults and points docked/given if the 'trend' carries on and seriously disrupts play. It must be annoying.

I saw a documentary about Martina last year. She comes across as a lovely lady.

I feel it should be either the men's us reduced to 3 or the women's raised to 5.

Should also be equal pay, equal play.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 16:04

*is reduced.

Feckin phone is so annoying, my qwerty board is too small for my fingies !

JuanPotatoTwo · 20/06/2014 16:27

Interesting draw. I fear Klingon, Dustin, Golly - Bev and Goffin will be going home almost immediately which is a shame as I like them. Perhaps Matosovic too. I would like to see some different faces in the quarter finals but not convinced I will. Although, most annoyingly, Nole pulled out of The Boodles yesterday with "wrist niggles" so who knows how much that is still bothering him. His not playing also means he's had very little grass court match practice.

Had lovely day apart from that - got Ernie and Dom's autographs :) I told Dom I had a son exactly the same age as him, to which enables replied "That's nice!" Poor bloke, having to respond room inane comments :)

Glad you had good evening muddled. Since you admire Martina so much, perhaps you could transfer your affections to her and free Pot up for me? :) We saw Azarenka practicing at Queen's last week and she was most definitely shrieking. I'm inclined to think it's not put on in her case as she was unaware she was being watched but who knows?

Raahh · 20/06/2014 16:34

MrsV- Rosol hasn't exactly set the world on fire, since everyone was claiming he was amazing when he beat Rafa. I have every faith in Benoit Paire knocking him out in the first roundGrin.

I'd hate to see the end of 5 set matches. But I agree the money situation is unfair- although I don't doubt the training and commitment the women put in.

Funny how they don't shriek in practice, isn't itGrin

Do you think Dimitrov has ear plugs? Wink

Raahh · 20/06/2014 16:38

Juan- Envy at you meeting Ernie and Dom.

I hope Ernie has a good run- just to ruffle some feathers.

Djok's wrist is a worry- I really want it to be a tournament where people get through on merit, and not because of other people's injuries and retirements. Last year was pretty farcical in that respect.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 16:38
Grin

Bet he does !

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 16:41

Mark my words, I predict upsets !

Not entirely convinced the wrist is Novaks only problem...I think his attention is diverted away from his game and he will have suffered a huge knock losing to Rafa again.

Raahh · 20/06/2014 16:43

Maybe Novak is suffering from sympathetic pregnancy symptoms. Grin

And yes, that loss at RG, and the very brutal way it happened, has got to hurt.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 16:47

I think he may be suffering from impending fatherhood. Did you also see he cancelled the wedding till after Wimby ?

I was a bit shocked.

Lets just say I think his days at the top are numbered.

JuanPotatoTwo · 20/06/2014 16:58

I half suspected that Nole might announce his retirement after his defeat at the French. I'm glad he didn't, but I agree that I think his focus will now be on marriage/ family etc. Be interesting to see.

In the absence of Pot, Ernie is becoming my new crush Blush which just goes to show that life is strange - not even six months ago I couldn't be doing with him and his mardy ways. Now, however, I feel I could be doing very well with them if you know what I mean :) But when Pot returns Ernie will be relegated to number two again - unlike muddled some, I am very loyal.

MrsVamos · 20/06/2014 17:09

Retirement ? Wow, brave guesstimate Juan.

I wouldn't have dared utter such a thing !

Wouldn't surprise me though. I cant see him playing on in a decline like Roger, I don't think he loves the game enough for that.

I am dreading the day we lose Roger and Rafa from the game though. End of a huge era. Sad

Raahh · 20/06/2014 17:14

I am glad to see Federer there this year- because it means sightings of the lovely Stefan. Grin

magimedi · 20/06/2014 17:16

Me too - I think we have been so lucky to have been watching during this era - probably the best ever.

Pesky - I've been a devotee of Martina for years & years. Doesn't stop me liking others, however.
