Did anyone watch Endeavour? What was the thing with the ring at the end?

Oh don't tell me that! I really really need another series Sad

Oblique27 · 20/04/2014 22:46

No this is what Dexter said ( no one will play Morse to compete with John Thaw)
www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/the-morse-code-no-other-actors-will-be-allowed-to-play-colin-dexters-detective-after-the-late-john-thaw-9213246.html

thefemaleJoshLyman · 20/04/2014 22:49

I really hope I got it wrong. Smile

Oblique27 · 20/04/2014 22:51

So do I ....I need my fix of Morse and Thursday Smile

SteadyEddie · 20/04/2014 22:57

That cant be the end, there is so much to tie up.

Nennypops · 21/04/2014 10:03

Interesting that Evans says he models his characterisation on Michael Palin rather than John Thaw. I can see why, but it leaves a question mark about how this Morse evolves into the rather tetchy later Morse.

Worrying now about the fact that Endeavour quoted from The Remorseful Day in this episode, that being the episode in which Morse dies. It was very apposite, because it was at the point when Thursday was talking about how he would die a policeman and Morse probably would too - which turned out to be true. But with The Remorseful Day being the last Morse, I do hope that's not another sign that this was the last Endeavour.

LIZS · 21/04/2014 10:09

We picked up on that too Nenny . I wish the final scenes in each episode weren't so frantic and dark, makes for a less satisfying conclusion somehow. Indeed did Thursday actually die ?

diddl · 21/04/2014 10:10

It might be nice to see at least how Strange got promoted above Morse.

Or is that a Mason thing?

I think CD only wrote about 13 Morse books didn't he?

So the TV series obv made a lot of eps up!

Does anyone know how long Morse & Lewis had been working together whn the Morse series started?

Maybe end Endeavour with Morse & Lewis first meeting if that would work?

Nennypops · 21/04/2014 10:13

Yay, I never knew that Lewis was coming back - www.itv.com/presscentre/press-releases/itv-commissions-new-series-lewis#.U1Tg9ijrPQc . Excellent news!

LIZS · 21/04/2014 10:15

I thought Morse began when Lewis was a relative newcomer. In which case there would still be a decade or two yet to fill in.

eddiemairswife · 21/04/2014 11:00

In the early books Lewis is already middle-aged.

Nennypops · 21/04/2014 11:37

Delighted that Hathaway seems to be back in the police. Leaves the door open to a "Hathaway" series if Kevin Whateley decides to pack it in ...

MinionDave · 21/04/2014 11:38

I absolutely love Endeavour, try bloody better be making another series!!

Great news about Lewis though, can't wait for it's return.

(Shallow: I fancy both Shaun Evans and Laurence Fox Grin)

yegodsandlittlefishes · 21/04/2014 11:55

Am so glad that Lewis is coming back. Only 6 episodes though! I got the impression Laurence Fox was leaving, but hopefully he won't, and there will be a Hathaway series in good time.

I haven't seen last night's Endeavour episode yet. Sorry to hear it is the last one of the series. Surely they will continue with them, they are so good, and there is nothing quite like them.

polyhymnia · 21/04/2014 14:01

I think last night's episode definitely left the door open for further series.
We know that Morse will be exonerated from the false accusation and his mentor could return or not, perhaps depending on the excellent Roger Allam' s availability.

MILLYmo0se · 21/04/2014 14:38

oh BLOODY hell, totally forgot about Endeavour this week !!!! AGGGGGHHHHH, can't believe I flippin missed it !

Nennypops · 21/04/2014 14:48

It's on ITV player, Milly.

ladymalfoy · 21/04/2014 14:53

Feel rather bereft after that. Although Morse never seems like he wants a hug I think he needs one.
Although a lot of this series explains why he is at odds with his superiors when he's proper Morse, I wanted him to be able to cock a snook at the powers that be.

ladymalfoy · 21/04/2014 14:54

And Strange really needs a punch. The bastard.

eddiemairswife · 21/04/2014 15:03

I was surprised to see so many guns being used at the end.

diddl · 21/04/2014 15:50

Well that was wierd!

Surely the guy at the end (Anton Lesser) wondered where Morse was going?

I don't think that Strange needs a punch!

He's not as bright as Morse & trusting of superiors I guess.

Trillions · 21/04/2014 16:26

I think Anton Lesser (Chief Superintendent Bright) knew what was going to happen to Morse, hence his disappearance indoors at the crucial moment.

diddl · 21/04/2014 16:36

That did occur to me.

Thought he was a good guy!

Lilymaid · 21/04/2014 16:39

Anyone tried using the ITV Player recently? I realised I had missed last Sunday's episode and fell asleep during part of last night's! The ITV website just keeps sending me to its App - and judging from the reviews that doesn't work!

PaschalFancy · 21/04/2014 16:42

NOT READING THREAD NOT READING THREAD

We've recorded the last Morse so I'm trying not to read when this comes up on my TIO!

But I glimpsed the comment about ITVPlayer, and it works for us: that's how we watched Episode 1 of this series.
