Did anyone watch Endeavour? What was the thing with the ring at the end?

"Wasn't Morse scarred for life by a broken romance? Could it be this nurse?"

That's what I am worried about as I see their romance blossom. Morse almost got engaged or married twice, I think, but he never did get married.

Tigresswoods · 15/04/2014 13:23

Goodness having read this thread last week I was on high alert throughout Sundays episode for EVERYTHING!

You cannot watch while tired. I know that now.

Gatekeeper · 15/04/2014 14:28

the 4 got on the wall from the packaging on the mattress that the nurse had bought from the store

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 15/04/2014 14:37

Finally got round to watching this week (because of Roger Allam, mostly) and thought it was really good. I missed a bit of the Italian woman's story though - why did she commit suicide?

On a shallow note, Shaun Evans is really quite attractive.

DinoSnores · 15/04/2014 17:11

The Italian woman was the one who betrayed her resistance fighter group, not another man as she'd said to Thursday.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 15/04/2014 17:22

Thank you dino

Lambstales · 16/04/2014 21:35

Was that in the letter? I couldn't catch half of what she was saying when she was meeting Thursday.

PS How do you get subtitles?

yegodsandlittlefishes · 17/04/2014 11:37

Subtitles: either there's a button for it on the remote, or on some you can press the OK key and then the blue button (ornary Virgin) or it used to be 888 but don't know it that works anymore.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 17/04/2014 18:31

Just catching up on Sunday's episode at last.

I love the period details too, mrswimpeydimple. Burridges looks a bit like Cavendish House in Cheltenham (with a bit of photoshopping) on the outside.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 17/04/2014 19:59

The woman who broke his heart was at university with him, so this has already happened by the time we see Endeavour now.

I love Endeavour, I think it has worked really well. I love the references to Morse and that Colin Dexter is in each episode.

I hope there are a few more series.

diddl · 17/04/2014 20:02

Yes, didn't she leave him for a professor?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 17/04/2014 20:07

I can't remember - which is terrible, because I read all the books recently!

Clawdy · 17/04/2014 21:42

She was called Susan. She broke off their engagement at university, and married someone else. Not sure it's in the books,as the Morse portrayed in the books isn't quite the melancholy loner of the TV adaptations.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 17/04/2014 21:46

It is talked about in the books - she is Wendy. Think she was called Susan on TV later, maybe? Like the Lancia turns into a Jag!

When I finished reading the books I was sobbing. I think that Morse and Lewis is a love story.

diddl · 18/04/2014 08:05

I don't think that this one was based on a book?

I suppose there could be elements of various books in it?

diddl · 18/04/2014 08:12

No, I'm wrong.

Wendy Spencer in "The Riddle of the Third Mile".

Nennypops · 18/04/2014 08:38

I enjoyed the bit in one of the episodes this series where Thursday told Morse off for failing to get his round in. He was always leaving it to Lewis in the original series.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 20/04/2014 22:03

What an ending Shock . We know Morse didn't go to prison for murder but Thursday?

Oblique27 · 20/04/2014 22:07

Series finale........outrageous ! How could they do that to us? So far off the cliff it was in mid air......poor Morse

Tigresswoods · 20/04/2014 22:11

How long will we have to wait for more?!?!?

thefemaleJoshLyman · 20/04/2014 22:11

Not just season finale but last one ever....Sad

OP posts:
Oblique27 · 20/04/2014 22:24

Why do you say that TFJL? Too many loose ends to be the end surely....

Tigresswoods · 20/04/2014 22:30

????

thefemaleJoshLyman · 20/04/2014 22:36

I'm sure I read somewhere that Colin Dexter was concerned about the timeline about the age of Morse and John Thaw crossing over, so this would be the last series.

I hope not.

Tigresswoods · 20/04/2014 22:39

With an ending like that we NEED another series. It's got to be one of the best things on TV!?
